So beautiful! Definitely on my bucket list of "if I could but probably never will." I just don't have the space. I have one MBK and that is about all for me!
Great video! I keep my pair with just ambient heat as well and have never had an issue. My female is very calm but the male is an absolute pistol haha.
I was looking for a video on the Zilla mini halogen dome because I'm stupid-struggling with setting up heating for the 40 gallon tank that my second dragon rescue is long overdue for. The lid I've got is split down the middle and opens on the left or right and the mesh is super heavy grade and much larger/wider woven than usual. It also makes a terrible sound when pushed on and bouncing back [ like fake thunder in a school play ] due to lack of support so it snaps back loudly, which my boy is going to find terrifying I'm sure. It's a dumb design flaw and I'd replace it if I could afford to. The 50 watt mini Plus another 100 watt bulb barely heats well enough to get the cool side above 78 or so, and Minneapolis winter is coming soon- so that's just Not going to do it. Super frustrating for sure!! Anyway...Personal gripes aside, the reason I'm commenting is that I'm really happy to see that you're making a career out of this!! I watched your 2017 review and thought "Hey, I wonder what that kid's up to today..." and here you are kicking ass. Once you get through all of the various angles of schooling you will never have to "work" a day in your life in this field. Congratulations on following your true dreams!! It may seem strange, but this makes me very happy to see!
They're pretty easy to keep! In my experience many outdated care guides keep them too warm. I currently work with a large group of adults at my current position and can tell you that they tend to avoid excessively hot spots (I think part of the reason people used to say these snakes had bad attitudes was due to them stressing out in excessively warm temperatures) In my experience, letting the daytime ambient temps fluctuate from 74-81 with a night drop works well! (So far I had four clutches laid this year at work with great egg viability under these parameters!)
@joshualandry3160 that’s how I’ve always worked with/maintained beauty snakes! Many other long term breeders I’ve spoken to such as Rob & Amy Zerkle, and Matt Most all vouch for the “cool, ambient temps” for Asiatic beauty snakes.
i have a cave dwelling rat snake its a ridleyi its in the beauty complex ,hes very beautiful and just a really interesting animal to handle and watch they deserve a really large naturalistic enclosue as thy will be out and about so cool my guy even basks under a uv light
That’s awesome! I’ve worked with O. t. ridleyi before at an internship, sadly I haven’t bred them. Super cool snakes! I’d love to work with (and attempt to breed) the species someday! (Especially the orange locality from the Cameron Highlands)
For the Arcadia Jungle Dawn. I’d suggest focusing on the length of the fixture as opposes to the wattage. For instance: in a 48” enclosure. You’d use the 34” 51 watt Jungle Dawn to cover “roughly” 3/4 of the enclosure while still allowing for plenty of shaded areaa underneath branches and such. Hopefully that makes sense. - Alex
That's the prettiest snake I've ever seen! Definitely will be acquiring one!
You should!!!
Very rewarding animals to work with! I hope that I’ll be able to keep them myself one day!

Great video, and also very pretty snake. If I had the space and time I'd love one, then again I say that about most animals lol.

Wow, no heat gradient?! That is really messing with me. I guess more research is needed since mine is arriving in about a week.

@@AlexsAgamids I saw a video from Dave Kaufman that seems to show the same for a closely related species in the wild. This will be interesting.

What uva do you recommend for cwd
For UVA/Visible light. The Arcadia Jungle Dawn LED Bar would be my suggestion 👍🏻
@@AlexsAgamids any specific wattage?

@@AlexsAgamidsI have a 36 x 18 x 36 would the 22 watt or 34 watt be best?
I’d suggest the 34” 51 watt
