You provide such value with these videos. I don't even ice fish. I'm a bass fisherman from KY who comes up a couple times a year but I love LSC and MI so much and I keep up with the lake and conditions all year. Thank you for posting these videos. Go Lions and God Bless!
Yeah baby!!! WOOO 3 years, it's been 3 years since we got some good ice this early on! I was out twice today already, can't wait for the weekend! Gonna be busy!
This early? This isn't early we used to have ice the 3rd week of December. 80's 90's early 2000's I was always fishing off the beach at Metro by Christmas.
@@rando6969 Winters aren't anything like they used to be. We haven't been getting any major snow storms either. We used to get storms that dumped 18 inches at a time. In 1991 we had two storms in one week. One dumped 18 inches the other dumped 16 inches. They had tractors on Gratiot to clear the snow. In 1998 we had a massive storm. Winter of 1994 we hit -15f with -70 wind chills.
Thank you Justin! To the young and new ice anglers, invest in a float suit before you buy that new shanty. It’s starting to look like a great ice season this year. Be safe everyone and good luck!
Bring a spud, buy a float suit, and find out where the current flows. It's amazing how fast the current will eat the ice. It takes much longer to freeze up. Stay safe, tight lines!
Thanks JC. Appreciate the update. Saves the drive and for that I am subscribed. lol. Old school here. If you’re under 125 proceed with caution. If over wait till someone says there’s at least 3 inches. Spud, spikes, cleats. All a must. Be safe yall!!!!
Thank you for another awesome update, always watch for your videos,i have met you before at the fairhaven boat ramp few years back i was running gas powered rc car and you put in your video. Look forward to your next update take care and thanks again 🤟
First ice use the buddy system. Spud every step. Ice is setting up nice. Checked fairhaven yesterday. Ice at shore was 2 inches and soft but 3.5 of hard ice 50 yards out. If your not comfortable wait a few days.
Always walk with a spud, walk, spud, walk spud.........etc. A pair of ice picks around the neck are something similar will help get you out if you happen to fall through the ice! Stay safe and fish on!
Young bros, if you happen to fall thru, don’t panic, throw your arms in front of you on the ice, try to get parallel to and kick as hard as you can like you’re swimming.
Dont walk anywhere you havent already used the spud this time of year. 20 feet one way or the other can be a different ball game. Even more difficult to tell with snow on top.
Carry a throw rope,spud spud spud,gps,compass,uscg suit,picks around neck,picks on boots,don't go alone,check wind directions before you go,handwarmers
I've gone thru the ice for over 35 years it never gets any better... It WILL happen, so all you can do is have the right safety gear on you, not in your sled or a buddy's.... ON YOU ..... Ice picks, ice cleats, float suit, my dad always told me to use your spud bar to check the ice anything less than 3 hard hits and it starts to leak, back up.Also when your not chipping/ checking your way out or in, carry the spud bar in the middle and at your side so that it's flat to the ice, doing this saved me when I found a spearing hole that was snowed over I fell thru and the spud bar stopped me from going all the way under. Always listen to your gut feeling it's their for a reason. But just like ANYTHING ELSE IN LIFE you can die doing something that you love, so be mindful of that. Good luck this year and hope ya don't get to wet, learn a thing or three about learning to read the ice you should be fine.
@JCDropshot obviously you didn't WATCH your own video! Looks like certain death out there on what little ice you did show. Better yet walk out on that ice on main lake 1000 yards straight out! Now let me hand you a body bag as your looking like you will need it🤣😂
To the young and new ice fisherman, just stay home til ice is 4+ inches. Don't be like some of these idiots who care more about catching pan fish than they do their own families. Smh every year fools rush to get out on sketchy ice. Be safe.

You bet

I've been trying to get into it since about 2020 and it's been brutal.

@@dabeev Right?? The last time I made it out was 2021, but I didn't get out until February, but that was my fault lol
@wantsome-zs5sq Well you see, I wasn't alive back then 🤣 I'm only 26, but I've heard about how good the ice was back then, I'm jealous of those times

I think the best thing to remember is that no ice is "safe ice". Good luck out there folks.
Thank you Justin!

No problem! Glad to help keep you safe out there.
Been skating all week on the canal, nice thick ice in the still-water areas

Thanks for posting!
No problem!
Tha ks for the video. My neighborhood lake in oakland county is at 3 inches already
Careful around seawalls... The ground radiates a bit of heat which makes for thinner ice
on those sunny warm days for sure
Can't wait for the diver duck video. Thx
This was just south of the raft so many birds!
16 year old kid went thru the ice and passed down in central Ohio yesterday. Use extreme caution on early ice…and never ever go alone.
Subscribed!

Always bring a spud! If you don't feel comfortable back out.
Thanku
Stay away from cattails! The ice is a lot more likely to break under your weight when it has a bunch of vegetation sticking through it!
yup been there
Young bros, if you happen to fall thru, don’t panic, throw your arms in front of you on the ice, try to get parallel to and kick as hard as you can like you’re swimming.
Catch your breath then get yourself out by swimming back on to the good ice you came from! Great Advice!
Hey I made your video! First cut at the raft. Sorry for giving you the bird I thought you were the DNR 😂
😆
What done are you using? And how do you like it
Dont walk anywhere you havent already used the spud this time of year. 20 feet one way or the other can be a different ball game. Even more difficult to tell with snow on top.
Absolutely! It's all about being cautious out there on the ice.
How’s the clarity out there? Decent, or muddy?
You can see the bottom in most of the drone shots, but up tight at the raft and fair haven you have some color to the water.
Young guys, 2 major things to buy first. Float suit and a spud bar
Carry a throw rope,spud spud spud,gps,compass,uscg suit,picks around neck,picks on boots,don't go alone,check wind directions before you go,handwarmers
No for not subscribed just way I like it
It's a bit crazy that it's been below freezing for like 3 weeks now and there's still open water.
Lots of wind

First thing to have is a spud, go to a local and buy one or make your own
Hey young guys. When you're out on less than 4"" of ice. Use your spud carefully . Don't try to hammer it through, go easy, see how the ice reacts.
Great advice!
Don't pee into the wind
No ice is safe ice! Always use abundant caution.
Yup 100%, just like guns always treat it as if its loaded!
Drill baby drill 🎣
Yeah!!!!
0:29 amazing mic quality lol
@@relatablebranden cable came
Lose I think it happens😆
My old man tip: take a body bag or two on thin ice👊
come on man why so negative and morbid

Good report but please back the background music down
I was having some technical issues with this one sounded better on the desktop but on my phone yeah it was a bit loud. I will try to better next time.
If you can’t afford a float you will look silly but if it’s first ice where a life jacket and obviously your ice picks
First
Spud, spud your way out. Ice cleats and spikes.
Best advice anyone can give someone.
