I would love to hear that demo
Can you imagine being in that room with Andre and Morris and Prince. How could anyone have predicted that the skinny dude on guitar would become one of the most succesful and influential artists of the coming decade?
That MN sound is legendary!

Here are the questions we all have in our heads- where are all those early recordings? Are they in the vault? Did they get lost in time?
all the answers in 1 place just look th-cam.com/video/zol_LEt74Rw/w-d-xo.html
The Loring Sessions 1977.
King the Prince
Being the Mother Mattie Della was lead singer of the band Prince Roger's, she is technically a major contributing factor in the development of MN Sound engineering.
Ok. I got a Prince 2nd hand story. It's from my brother's former guitar player. The guitar player ends-up playing w Prince. One night Prince breaks a guitar string. 'My brothers guitar ' player TAKES OVER and rips the guitar solo !! And really knocks it out-of the park!! Prince comes back up...gets in his face..and demeaning says.. THAT WONT happen AGAIN.
Nice

David, of course, is the older brother of Robert B. 'Bobby Z' Rivkin, who was Prince's original drummer ....
3:38 BADASS!!!!!!!!!
I thought Prince's first recording session was with Sonny Thompson, before this, for The Family. The track was later released as this: th-cam.com/video/ERJXLdvQacw/w-d-xo.html
His first recording session was this one in late 1975 th-cam.com/play/PLdNVP1U7kWKEIC9FVIAj-9pGeVzWGmUVi.html
His first recording session in a professional recording studio with a head recording engineer etc .
@@Roundtablewithdrew what was unprofessional about the first recording?
@@chakattack6259 that wasn’t even a Prince song.
His first time recording for Prince music in a professional studio, with a head engineer and producer was with David Z at ASI in MN
This Explains EVERYTHING th-cam.com/video/zol_LEt74Rw/w-d-xo.html
Im kinda surprised the Replacements were not mentioned in this interview.
Great video, but what I found interesting is that Prince didn't keep Morris as a drummer. Never really knew why Prince hired Bobby Z. According to Morris his dream was to be a drummer not a singer. It was Prince that talked him into fronting The Time and singing...
What I understood from Morris his story is that Morris his mother moved away to Detroit, and Morris went with her. And so they lost contact. And when the first album of Prince came out, Morris decided to hook up with Prince again.
David Z is a MPLS gem! Love Prince but if you take David Z out the puzzle we don't have much!
agreed th-cam.com/video/zol_LEt74Rw/w-d-xo.html
Still Waiting For The One On One Interviews
With Adrian Zmed , And Glenn Scarpelli #SunsetSoundRecorders 🙏🏻
Nah th-cam.com/video/zol_LEt74Rw/w-d-xo.html
The amazing part is Prince isn't the shortest guy in the pic around six minutes in... 🤣
No "Minneapolis" sound at the time? The clubs were thriving with great pre-disco funk bands Good Vibrations, Danny's Reasons, the Mystics, and so many more. I'm the same age as Prince and at 16 they were letting me in clubs so I'm sure they influenced him.
I wonder if this studio is close to Norms rare guitars. I would love to do a California tour and see all the historical music sights. This studio would definitely be top on the list.
Sunset is long gone. I was a recording engineer in the 70-80's. Sunset was hopping then.
@@kendallevans4079 Sunset is not gone. Still a great studio open for business.
Many of the venues on Sunset strip are gone.
@@richardbosworth6635 That's not the original studio.
Much has changed, Troubadour, Whiskey are still there...Rainbow, Roxy also are hanging on
Dre, Morris and P. Damn that's dangerous grooving.
you've been here before Niqulus th-cam.com/video/zol_LEt74Rw/w-d-xo.html
That David z guy, I think I heard him on several interviews on prince too, and his comments were negative. Same subject, so why does he talk about someone he holds a grudge against or doesn't like or respect? You're not hurting Prince… No matter, I still feel Prince one of the greatest musical energies ever.
He’s telling his 3 decade experience with him. If it isn’t all positive… then he can’t talk? He literally was Prince producer / engineer and got him signed with Warner Bros
I could tell Andre had that sound on his solo album,.....didnt knw Morris Day played drums
The real question is would he be saying all of this stuff if Prince was still alive because I don't think that he would.
That table is rectangle shaped
"So he just wanted greatness out of people?"
"...No, he was just being an asshole."
lol
Ok this is clickbait, this is only 3 people talking ,there is no Prince singing a first song .
Three ppl talking? Uh…. Just the two recording engineers who worked with Prince everyday, plus were discussing Princes 1st ever recording session. Didn’t imply Prince was singing a song
Gone but not forgotten Prince Charles, RIP. Love.
Bobby Z.'s brother? 🤔
Yes.
Yes.
@@Roundtablewithdrew Thought so. They share a great resemblance. And then the whole "Z." surname thing, too. Thanks for replying and keep up the spectacular work!! 😎
“There was no Minneapolis sound at the time”
That’s what he said
"At the time" because he hadnt invented it yet lol
Prince didn't seem like a guy you'd want to hang out with.
I believe he is still alive.
Like Jacko, like Diana.
The interruption at 6:08 ... :( i would like to hear how Prince destroyed the whole Elite in one session...
Not the best interviewer....When the engineer was getting going talking about the first "session" in LA with all of Warner Bros. producers, he was about to go somewhere interesting and the cat asked him an innocuous question that made the engineer lose the thread...he never regained the thread of the story, "You were there too?!", and that's all she wrote...Too bad. As an interviewer one has to know when to keep one's mouth shut and let the subject feel free to speak. Let the people speak!!
The Purple Rain era was great.
No surprise hearing he was overly hard on people. Highly creative but flawed character. Manipulative, controlling; narcissistic with a side order of Napoleon complex.
Susan def was in the payroll. He put Peggy through hell. Susan too. He would pick one person…And he’d bring up their weaknesses, and ride on it. And come down on you. It was bad
Mmhm
Sorry, but Prince has to be one of the most overrated artist of all time..
Please list his greatest top 5 songs
He could not sing and his music seems all
Processed and gimmicky
Almost every artist calls him the GOAT.
You are just a random comment on TH-cam.
Jealous B ache!!!!
Mister Butter worth
Greatest 5 songs in what category? Songs he did for himself, or songs he recorded for other artists under a pseudonym? Also which genre? Which decade? There's no way you've heard enough of Princes songs for your statement to be relevant.
Prince, nor the Prince Army, nor anyone else gives a fuck what you think
