  • “I went to your country with a mission and you all good souls were sent by Krishna to me.” - Srila Prabhupada.
One of the good souls sent by Krishna to Srila Prabhupada is His Holiness Jayapataka Swami Maharaja who has been serving Srila Prabhupada as a “selfless worker” over the last 3 decades.

    PAMHO Hare krishna prabhu🙏🙏
I have a question please can you provide me solution for it. It's about dressing etiquette of vaishnavas. We know that vaishnava women have proper dressing sense and covering themselves properly, but in some cases like in ISKCON only many women matajis wear saree or gopi dresses in a exposing way, not properly cover body parts . Many of them say that associates of Goddess Radha rani also did the same while attaining pastimes with Lord. Even in many paintings of ISKCON we see paintings of radha rani and others exposing certain regions specially belly, waist or midriff and the artists say it's all about love not intention. They also say that in scriptures there are also glorification of goddess radha and her associates having large chest, slim belly, broader waist, deep navel, etc so we will also show in painting by exposing body or wearing, a devotee we all know that they are well covered, not a single part exposed as per scriptures, they are well opulent.Even srila prabhupada said they are nicely dressed and covered with shyness, so what to answer these people with respect and what is the reality, is that kind of dressing good for devotional progress? Please I am confused about it.. 🙏

Thank you for asking...we will try our best.
As you already said that in some cases it is like that, and it is not general culture. General etiquette is wearing dress with proper covering specially in public places. One should dress nicely and beautifully to attract Krishna and it is not that when one will dress in exposing way then only Krishna will be attracted. Krishna will be more pleased when he will see a devotee wearing dress with proper Vaishnav etiquette. But in some cases, specially where there is not proper training and there is more influence of western civilization in that case, we may find some examples like that.
We should understand that everyone has their free will and with that one wants to serve Krishna and it's difficult to fit everyone in one line specially when community grows to large extent. When one understands things then personally one should try to follow and set a good example so that others can follow them. Just like in a classroom there is different levels of students, and all cannot become first class. There are three modes of nature and even dressing sense also is influenced by three modes so when one is influence by mode of passion then that kind of dressing sense can be expressed by them.
When it comes to Gopis and Krishna, then we should understand that it is transcendental, and everyone is not qualified to hear and speak their pastimes so same is for painting also. When a devotee does such arts then he does it with all due respects but when some professional do then he does with mindset to attract people and not with devotional mindset.
Your concern is genuine but at the same time you should not be influenced by the mode of passion. Dressing in mode of goodness is recommended.
