    $250 annual fee for process gmo food credits a cute 4x multiplier card that can’t even be used abroad when there are cards on the market that offers 5x on groceries w/no annual fee. The only thing good is the Once in a lifetime 90k SUB. I’m churning that card man.

      Yup no travel value makes it a bust with the possible increased AF, MR points alone with some credits are not enough for the AF. 6-10 visits a year to the Centurion lounges or Priority Pass would give the Amex Gold leverage in the lower AF travel card market.

    Ya those folks saying you have to spend $5000+ per month on the Gold card to get value are FULL of $%^*! All you really have to spend is only a whopping $525 per month to exceed the annual fee, assuming all spend is in 4x categories and a 1 cpp redemption, which should be the mininum on any card. Thats not using a single credit either!
    before i was even in the AmEx system, i already knew the Gold card was arguably the best card AmEx offers because everybody has to eat!
    However, if you are a low spender, and have to use credits to justify the AF, then there are better NO AF or Low AF cards out there.

    I spent $1,000 a month groceries alone as a single person. But then again I buy a lot of steaks and healthy food. So on top of a lot of things I like to cook I made four ribeyes a couple days ago. I don't know why people cry about the card line. You don't like it. Don't get it. Why? I don't know what's the problem. I do find the card underwhelming but I still think it has value now. If or when they increase the annual fee you might have a conversation
    And I usually use the credits when I'm out And need a coffee so if it's on my route I'm gladly willing to pay. Maybe a dollar more for my coffee or whatever I'm going to get and I have to wait in line to get it my time. Important to me cuz I don't have a lot of it to myself so I'm able to walk in for a dollar. More right away is valuable to me
    And really just go down to the green card. Have a small annual fee as a decent or some pretty good value to it. If you want to go back up to the gold you can. I don't know if people I find a lot in this space complain a lot and expect every single card to fit their needs and it really is annoying because I've heard the same thing about the reserve of like the reserve needs a better credit. So if it does not fit for you and then it's not meant for you. Not everything has to be meant for everybody

    Love the Gold card as it gets the most usage in my wallet. Personally I love doubling up this card with Rapid Rewards Dining for Southwest Miles
    Took my mom out to dinner for her 60th birthday. $400 meal = 1600MR + 1200 SW miles. How do you beat that?
    I fly SW domestic and transfer MR points for long haul overseas business class so its killing two birds with one stone.

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ohhh wow!! Wait a second, I wasn’t even aware of combining those 2, how are you able to double up on them with 1 meal?
      And DAMN! $400, that must have been an amazing dinner for sure! Happy Birthday to your mom!
      Absolutely, so for you, you gained more value on this 1 dinner than some for their whole months grocery budget in some cases, great value to be made back for sure!
      Thank you Gibran for being here man!!

    • @gibranespinoza6603

      @@AnthonyVenture I doubled up using a dining program. The two that I like are Rapid Rewards Dining for Southwest and Hilton Honors Dining for Hilton.
      Rapid Rewards Dining gives you 3X miles per dollar and when you earn 1000 points, you get a bonus of 300 miles. So for this purchase I spent $400 which becomes 1200 SW miles + 300 bonus =1500 total miles.
      With the Hilton program you get 5X Hilton points per dollar on your first 10 visits. Once you hit 11+ visits you earn 8X Hilton points for the remainder of the year.
      Between the two, it just depends on which currency I want to earn passively. Right now, I'm earning Southwest miles. Pairing the AMEX Gold with either is an awesome way to earn points actively with the Gold and passively with the dining program.
      If I really need Hilton points, I will pair the Hilton Honors dining with either the Aspire or the Surpass (if I'm working towards a $15K FNC). This can turn a meal using the Surpass from 6X Hilton points to 11X - 14X per dollar helping you rack up points.
      Or you can mix and match any combination that you want. I've done the Hilton Surpass with Rapid Reward Dining so I'm earning 6X Hilton + 3X Southwest Miles for a single meal.

    The fact that the credits are specifically structured to create breakage is my biggest complaint. All of Amex's "coupons" do this. I don't mind businesses profiting from my patronage, but I object to that profit being earned in an essentially dishonest manner.

      Oh absolutely agreed Head Librarian, for sure they don’t make it easy, and that’s by design.
      For the crazy folks, sureee it can be used, but for the most part, people don’t want to deal with it. And it can be dishonest, good to notice where the upcharges are as well too.
      I mean even I don’t care to keep it really right now haha.

      @@AnthonyVenture I typically use my Gold Uber credit with Uber Eats and find a restaurant were there are buy one get one deals and order from them. So even if there is an overcharge I am getting the value since I get multiple meals. Also will always stack the Gold's Uber credit with the Platinum's Uber credit and use both at the same time. Two weekends ago I ordered Indian food and got two entrees and two orders of naan for $29 and with the $25 in stacked credits it was less the $5 out of pocket

      That’s a very good point there as well, stacking multiple deals like that just adds more and more value.

    It amazes me you use the Savor One to enhance the Gold card yet overlook the Gold card is only 1x more on Grocery/Dining meaning you have to spend $25,000 to justify. Will you still sing its praises when it is $350/yr?

      I said I should cancel the Gold card by around the 10 minute park Peter Pan man.
      Plus what you said is very misleading, you’re not adding in anything about credits, what the points can be worth etc. I mentioned opportunity cost, and just a Savor One Only setup making sense for a lot of folks.
      But of course not at $350/yr, unless whatever they give justifies it. Probably won’t however, they all usually get worse over time. Mass cancel the Amex Gold card.

    The first equation you used is nonsense. You can't just use that and say it covers 70% of the AF. you MUST compare it to any free card that gives 3% for the same multipliers. You'd need to spend $2500 more per year to break even and make the amex gold worth it over just getting the savor one and not needing the coupons

    • @CesarJoel
      @CesarJoel 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well your equation is wrong. If you compare to another card, you also have take in consideration the CPP of both options compared. Example 3% cash back = 3 cents but if I value MR points at 2 cents each, 4x = 8 cents per point and I don’t need to spend $2,500 to break even. Plus the value the user gives to the credits. I think Anthony’s equation is better than yours.

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes but that is why I mentioned the 70% - over 120% the value of the AF, before mentioning the 4x Dining, $240 in credits or in my case, closer to $280 with how I use them. So you’d have to factor that into the equation too.
      And that was bottom dollar, as Cesar said and does personally, folks generally who are traveling can get 2cpp or more which just allows you to profit from like $2-$300 a month only on the Gold.
      But I did mention your point as well, and can make a lot of sense if not wanting to deal with justification and justification.
      Thank you Cesar!! Good points all around!!
