Oh my goodness! I love the idea of pop tarts but was never happy with the ones out of the box. Now THIS looks like what I wanted them to taste like. I'll need to try these!!
I like the ones in the box, but homemade anything is just typically better tasting. Although, to say these are "good for you" is a bit of a stretch. Just a nice treat from time to time. :)
+blahh blah True, but they're definitely healthier in the sense that there's WAY less chemicals and artificial things (flavors, preservatives, etc.). Which means you're definitely eating the healthier version when you eat these. :)
Hey! I made this a week ago and they tasted fabulous. I filled them with raspberry, strawberry, and grape jelly and they were all so good! I never thought you could make these at home. I had to add more water to the pastry than you did, but this recipe is a keeper. Thanks, Gemma!

I attended an informal sort of backing school when I was a teen and although I went into computers the baking always stayed with me and I love cooking as long as I can do everything from scratch. I have got to try a batch of these with the kids! Thanks for all the posts am so glad I found them! Oh.. I am in love with your wonderful accent make sure you go home often and refresh it so you don't lose it over here! Speaking as a long lost american-Irishman there is just something about hearing it that is soothing to me at least.

For the other filling, I cut up an apple, and mixed it in with some cinnamon and brown sugar. :)

Wouldn't the butter slightly melt under your body temperature when you're rubbing it into the flour? Without either a pastry cutter or a food processor, I usually use a fork and a knife to make the mixture - just press in with the fork and scrape off the butter with the knife. In that way, unfortunately, the butter pieces I end up with are small, even smaller than peas.
+Gemma Stafford You're welcome, ma'am. When I make the pie dough, I do it safe as I play by the book. I mix the dry ingredients, add diced cold butters and have them well-combined in the way I described. Then I pour in some ice-cold water one tablespoon at a time. I'd like to try an egg to give it some richness, but wouldn't the dough become very sticky? That happened at some of my cookie doughs and it was very unpleasant. I could hardly scrape all of it off my mixing bowl and clean it up later.

I just made these after I got home from work! I was wanting something different for breakfast since I never eat store bought Pop-Tarts. (Homemade is so much better!!) I made the brown sugar and cinnamon one with maple glaze. Although I only got 3 pop tarts out of my batch because I accidentally made them too big and thick, but oh well. They are still going to be out of this world good! I'm going to have one in the morning for breakfast. :) Lol I can't wait, I just want to go to bed so I can wake up and eat one of these bad boys. These were so good and much better than the store bought ones because the store bought filling is just pure icing and sugar and you don't really taste real flavor in it but when we made these it was so good especially the strawberry ones so thanks for sharing this recipe cuz now I found my to go breakfast so that I won't get late to school. For the choc fudge one, I would garnish it with some sea salt on top because there is nothing I love more than chocolate, than salted chocolate! lol. I just made these! I made it with some homemade strawberry & mango jam too, and it was just delicious! I'm freezing a bunch so that I can bring them to long school/work days when I need a sugary pick-me-up.

Wouldn't the butter slightly melt under your body temperature when you're rubbing it into the flour? Without either a pastry cutter or a food processor, I usually use a fork and a knife to make the mixture - just press in with the fork and scrape off the butter with the knife. In that way, unfortunately, the butter pieces I end up with are small, even smaller than peas.

+Gemma Stafford You're welcome, ma'am. When I make the pie dough, I do it safe as I play by the book. I mix the dry ingredients, add diced cold butters and have them well-combined in the way I described. Then I pour in some ice-cold water one tablespoon at a time. I'd like to try an egg to give it some richness, but wouldn't the dough become very sticky? That happened at some of my cookie doughs and it was very unpleasant. I could hardly scrape all of it off my mixing bowl and clean it up later.

I just made these after I got home from work! I was wanting something different for breakfast since I never eat store bought Pop-Tarts. (Homemade is so much better!!) I made the brown sugar and cinnamon one with maple glaze. Although I only got 3 pop tarts out of my batch because I accidentally made them too big and thick, but oh well. They are still going to be out of this world good! I'm going to have one in the morning for breakfast. :) Lol I can't wait, I just want to go to bed so I can wake up and eat one of these bad boys. These were so good and much better than the store bought ones because the store bought filling is just pure icing and sugar and you don't really taste real flavor in it but when we made these it was so good especially the strawberry ones so thanks for sharing this recipe cuz now I found my to go breakfast so that I won't get late to school.
