Nina Simone asked this very question decades ago, and how unfortunate is it that her song, "Strange Fruit," is STILL a reflection of our current time? As an artist, I wanted to share my rendition of this haunting song, to not only pay homage to the legendary Billie Holiday & Nina Simone, but as a tribute to black lives...we matter.

Wow 😢💔 I love how they tried to stop Billie Holiday from singing this song and erasing it from history and here you are in 2021 singing the same song and leaving the same impact and message she did. I bet she’s smiling with pride ❤️🙏🏽 absolutely beautiful ✊🏽🖤

That hurt. Like... It caused a physical tightness in my chest and an emotional numbness just came over me at the same time... Art should make you feel... And I felt this. In the most appropriate way for art and the most sad way for humanity... Well done to all involved... But we have so much work to do...

Still, I hope that one day this song will serve as nothing but a reminder of how things used to be.
This happened. I can't imagine it. How can any human being do this to another? Strange fruit? No. Humans burnt to death because of the colour of their skin. It's unimaginable and sick. I cry at the sheer horror of it all. The song is beautiful, the message is poignant and true. Let us hope. It never happens again.

It happens still when unarmed black boys are running from the law ppl who are suppose to protect them they are gunned down and they aren’t held Responsible. Same thing different ways.
