“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
Psalms 51:10 ESV
Only when we turn to God (draw near to Jesus in humble surrender) can He create within us a clean (pure) heart.
“Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you.....
I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:3, 5 ESV

Blessed are you when you hunger and thirst for goodness and for contact with the Father within you, because then you will surely be filled up a hundred times over.
Blessed are you when you are attacked and robbed because you will see God-in-action when you stand still in perfect trust and see deliverance taking place.
Blessed are you when you are caught up in conflict, yet you can still care about your fellow man and be the peace maker. You carry the Love in your heart which is of the Father and you are truly a child of the Father.
Blessed are you when you have been deeply wronged by another yet can forgive and can show mercy, abstaining from seeking justice or the means to persecute him. You put yourself directly in harmony with the Love which is God-active-within you and even so will you be spared in times of trouble.
Most blessed of all are the pure in heart, for such as these have rid themselves of all anger, hatred, vindictiveness, unkindness, envy, hardness of heart and stand before the world as Love-made-visible. They will know the Reality of God and they will know the Reality is the Father within them.
Psalm 86:11 Give me an undivided heart that I may fear your name.

If you want a personal relationship with god firsthand you have to peel away the layers of your humaniss untill only your spirit is left. Practically your humaness is the person you make up over your lifetime and everything connected to it. To hear the voice of God, you have to get rid of the self otherwise how do you know who is talking. Everyone has the vouce of God within them, they just can't hear it and don't believe if they do. And God forbid you mention it to someone else, you'll be locked away

I do understand the point you are making when you say that not even the shows you watch make you unclean ( that it comes from the heart). Be careful though, Satan has been using the senses of humans to gain an open door/s in lives for Him to work through. He still works through entertainment, music etc. He is cunning and can make things look very innocent while he is doing his thing. But you are right, if your heart is pure you will discern when you are in the presence of evil and will flee from it in whichever form it is coming to you. I do love the new image in my mind, seeing my heart as a filter.

So we can’t change our hearts by ourselves. We have to ask Jesus to clean our hearts and as situations present themselves we do what Jesus would want us to.

That's right ask Him to forgive any jealousy, envy etc in your heart then ask Him to remove. It's a life long process of guarding our heart.
The heart you have after you have chosen good or evil does not change. The people who choose good, keep the pure heart everyone is born with. For the people who choose evil, the pure heart they were born with turns wicked.
People with a pure heart are the only ones who seek God and find Him, its impossible for people with a wicked heart to seek God. God will let a person with a wicked heart commit suicide, etc. but he won't let a person with a pure heart do so, because He wants them to find Him.
So in reality if you choose good, you are blessed for eternity , if you choose evil, you are damned for eternity.
The main catch is that you have already chosen between good and evil, as we all do without consciously knowing at a young age, maybe 2 or 3 im not exactly sure.
This is a great sermon but I believe that the outside has something to do with why the heart is unpure. It could be someone's negative upbringing or how they were treated etc alot of that can contribute to a sour heart.
In showing love, compassion or mercy, should we then let ourselves get so affected that our salvation is lost?... A junior colleague from a group of people who used to be my friends in school contacted me. I don't wanna be friends with those people anymore because they're bad for my Christian life. This particular person who contacted me has never offended me but because he's a part of those group of people, I respectfully and kindly told him not to contact me anymore then I blocked him... Guarding my heart, isn't it as important as loving others? Did I do wrong by blocking him?
Jude 22-23 might be helpful for you:
22 Be merciful to those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear-hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.
Perhaps the self help books were so many, because people found they actually do work, and they want to share the wisdom with others.
They don't. If one them worked word of mouth would make them super popular and everyone would use them.

To suggest what content you take in doesn’t effect your heart is laughable. So can I watch porn and have a pure heart? Can I enjoy an obscene tv show or music and have a pure heart. Wrong application of scripture
