Bit late, but the MP4/4 seems to have a couple of both radiators and intercoolers, one on either side. Tamiya did their homework in their models´ engine bay.
nice, I often found that toys were wildly inaccurate, or were a version that I wasn't using, so I only sparingly use them as reference. In future I'll look out for the timiya name :)
@@fillman86 yeah, you can also see them in Kyosho models and Deagostini models, and in the blueprint pictures you looked at (it´s the smaller one a foot behind the radiator).
There´s some modern pictures of the real car where you can see it better, it´s by the side of the air scoop for the turbos.
I know the MP4 isn´t your favourite car but ye, I find the engine bay to be quite beaultiful and organized.

The MP4/4 was one of the first cars to have the lower almost lying back driving position that is used up until today. That position gave it a lower center of mass and thus was more stable. The first one to use that position was Tyrrell I think? Or was it Brabham?
it's also an increment, as laying the driver flatter was a trend started in the 60s. It had a nickname, but I can't remember the name... I think it was something like bathtub cars?
Actually modern drivers don't lay down that much anymore. In the high nose era of F1 the drivers were genuienly almost laying down flat, so in 1996 the drivers were laying down more than modern ones. It's basically 1997 to around 2013 where every car had a high nose.

the car was a 6 speed. That probably would have helped keep it in the power band.
Also, we know Automation is intended more for designing production vehicles (rather than race vehicles). So I'd say it might be a good idea to actually have the production year higher up since development of upper tier race cars generally uses technology ahead of their time.

1991 F1 cars are for me the most aesthetically pleasing. Almost all car shapes were perfect from that season, not to mention the liveries too. Jordan 191, Ferrari 643, McLaren MP4/6, Williams FW14, Minardi M191, Ligier JS35, Lambo 291. Kinda wish I was alive back then to see it

Oh haha that is literally a large semicircle shaped dial, and just had it rotate like a normal gage 🤣 as for the digital part, it is actually from the cintilla, I just set the uv unwrap to only include the boost and speed 😛

I really love to v10 era of F1 so i would love to see you make it. As i said before you don't have to do it but i think it would be a successful video, I really think you could make the right sound for the V10. I would love to do it but i don't have the money for automation. Please consider making it

The first version the 312T debut in 1975 South African GP, and the last version, 312T5 in Argentina 1980. Of course, the late 1980s cannot be compared with the mid to late 1970s. Ferrari won the world championship 4 times 75-77/79 and 3x the drivers championship 75/77/79 (+1 extra miss In 1976, the year Lauda was seriously injured, if he doesn't have to miss a race because of his life-saving medical treatment, he could easily be world champion, but that is history.)
yep, but you could also phrase it as the 4/4 only raced 1 year, and didn't have enough chances to fail. Also with how drastic the changes the 312t went though, it'd be like saying the 4/1 4/2 4/3 4/4 4/5 and the 4/6 were the same car too

@@brycekennedy7580 yeah. So if you are using that, then when you're in the vehicle configuration screen, extend the engine section, and find your way to changing the engine internals drop down menu

Yeah, and to be frank, out of all the car you can make in the 80's era, this was probably the most "mid", seeing how someone would implement the concepts of lotus 88 in autobeam is going to make a lot more interesting video imo

I think the big issue is how turbos are so fragile!
I understand that they're trying to make a balanced game though, so I won't poo poo it too much
@@fillman86 aren't they using math calculations for temps, airflow, fuel efficiency, ect? I would've thought they would go as realistic as possible.
@@fillman86 yeah and the boost is entirely independent from the power output, it only calculates the 100% throttle power curve which doesn't take into account the spooling characteristics of the turbo meaning that at low rpm if you have max boost it won't add power until its at that specific spooling up point where the power unrealistically kicks in and you inevitably spin out of control even with perfect fillman86 throttle control...
@@Ferrari255GTO yeah, but the limitations are based upon a choice. That limit is based upon normal road cars. I could have had better power and less lag, but the turbo keeps exploding :P
can you make a cart or indycar car?
well I did make a few gokarts previously :) super fun. As for indycar ;) there is plans for that after F1

having a look at reference pictures, and they all show there being a turbo on each side.... was there different variants of the engine?
@@fillman86 I feel like the 98t was possibly a single turbo, I've seen a few of the cars from this era in person and only spotted the one turbo
@@fusion6417 oh, early turbo engines were single turbo, and I believe all inline engines were too

Hey I'm not sure how much you know about turbos(also i get that you were trying to achieve a crazy amount of power ) but you should always try to get the turbo map to go into the green and stay there, it will be a lot more efficient and not so hot.
if I was making a normal engine, that'd totally be the way to do it :)

This looks amazing, I could see a possibility that you can build the lotus 98T or the formula one that has the most powerful inline 4.
there's limitations with creating those engines in automation, and I just don't think it's possible :/
@@fillman86 Oh yeah, there is one more minor detail, there is a rear undertray that extends to the body for the McLaren mp4/4, I think its connected to the rear diffuser, if you check the blueprint of the car at the side view or something.
@@seanmanalo7518 there were 4 different iterations of the 4/4 so you'll have to be a little more clear of what you're talking about.
my undertray/diffuser extended just beyond the body work, then connected to the sideplates of the wing, and held the middle struts for the wing too
@@fillman86 there was a new dev update video today they are giving more leeway in bore stroke in future versions dunno it will be enough though
@@fillman86 Really? Because most of the pictures of the McLaren mp4/4 I saw in the internet has an undertray, even the gt7 model has an undertray.
