This is my first time watching this documentary. I was working as a PSO in accident division (VCD) at the time. I handed Kevin his shop keys that night and told him to be safe. Very sad night and days to follow for us all. RIP to him.

If your phone is still working for this TH-cam I just wanted to reach out and say how sorry I am for your and fellow Officers loss 😢 . I raise two Grandsons and everyday I teach them who the true heroes are and I teach them to respect the LEO's and first responders along with firefighters. My Dad is a retired Captain for the Los Angeles Fire department we were raised to respect.. please stay safe out there and make it home to your family.. God Bless you and all of your LE. family.

Truly a tragedy and my heart goes out to all you guys and his family. I'm not an officer but when the chief said his first thought was of the officers working the scene. That was poignant I had never even thought of it as a civilian. But that truly must have been crushing. God bless you guys everyday!

They are all deportable when found. We need to bar them from entering and if they enter a second time, we should ship them off to Afghanistan where we pay the Afghans to keep them in prison for 5 years after first deportation. 10 years for the second. 20 years after that.

Came across this tragic and horrific event! My prayers go out to all involved. The issue I have with Houston is the FACT they became a sanctuary city. They helped to shield these illegal alien criminals. They provide a safe heaven for them. How many Houston Cops have been slain by one of these Illegal alien criminals?
When will we start to hold elected officials to include any Sheriff or Police Chief/Commissioner where victims can sue each and every one of them personally and without taxpayer money! All settlements should come from their personal insurance as well as all bank account(s). Not one penny of taxpayer dollars should be used.
Police Officers should all resign if they work for cities that shield and or protect illegal alien criminals from and by breaking Federal Laws.

Furthermore maybe if you weren't so bigoted you would realize that regardless of whether the individual is an immigrant or not they still are obligated to abide by the law, firstly. Secondly, let's not forget that these people applied to be officers and law enforcement personnel. No one held a gun to their heads to be police officers. And such incidents come with the territory.

This series is a stone cold look at the consequences of impaired driving -probably one of the best out there. As a former air line safety professional, and a victim of an impaired physician, in a life altering car accident, I can absolutely validate the fact that this message is as current as what you order for lunch.
This is not about my struggles, we all suffer in these situations. How can you truly ever recover from the loss of a loved one or a valued colleague? You can't.
What I want to say is this: if you have an issue, or even suspect you have an issue with drugs or alcohol, ask for help.
There are so many great resources that can change your life in a positive way. Ask for help. Reach out. There is no shame.
The shame comes when you hurt or kill another person. It doesn't need to get to that point .
Talk to your doctor, pastor, social worker, who ever. But get help.

This is very sad. The driver was found guilty and sentenced to 55 years in prison. Of that he must serve 27.5 years before he is eligible for parole. But in stark contrast, NYPD officer Neville Smith, while off duty, got drunk and drove his car and consequently killed a 22 year old college student from Queens. His was sentenced to 4 MONTHS in jail and 500 hours of community service. Where's the justice? If anyone, cop or civilian drives while under the influence and causes an accident that takes someone's life, that person should forfeit their freedom FOREVER. Life without parole. And some wonder why cops are so hated. One word .... unequal justice.

You cant compare the judicial actions in two separate states from two separate persecuting bodies.
BUT the short answer is this (same reason why the criminal in this case didn't get the death penalty), a justice system that has become incredibly liberal. Every criminal is a victim, who has a vallid excuse, and every victim shares fault.
In both cases, it was determined the alcohol was at fault, en excuse for the actions of the criminal. Return the justice system to one that punishes crime, remove lenient Judges. Make abiding to minimum sentences for convictions a Constitutional requirement. AND at the end of the day, make the JUDGE criminal responsible for the repeat offenses of those they let back into society.

so true, while tragic in this case, cops are treated so preferentially when they violate the law, the inequity is so obvious.

He'll have to do 46 3/4 years before he is eligible.

Further proof that drunk drivers need to be treated far more harshly than they are. The fatality rate in this country just keeps climbing and climbing. After their first infraction, DUI drivers need to be jailed for a minimum of one year, with their licenses revoked for ten years. All DUI drivers who injure someone need to be charged with felonies. and sentenced accordingly. DUI drivers who murder someone need to be imprisoned for a minimum of twenty five years. Minimum.
DUI accidents are not accidents, it is murder.
    RIP Officer Will.

Heart breaking. To know he acted so selfless in making sure others were safe is admirable. It's sad to know this officer lost his life while trying to get help for those in the wreck. Knowing his family faced the hard loss, they lost a husband, a son, a father. I hate people that drive drunk. They are selfish and have zero care of the lives they forever tear apart by their actions. It's senseless. If you want to act grown and drink then make sure you are responsible and don't drive. It's a choice that cost nothing of it'll cost you everything including your freedom or your life. How any adult or even teen that drinks can not make the right choice today, knowing the education out there about driving drunk, I'll never understand. If you can't drink responsibly then don't drink. Nobody deserves to lose a family member or friend to your carelessness. My thoughts and prayers go to his family and co-workers. Breaks my heart to know he never got to see or hold his child or there to comfort his wife through labor..it's something so much more tragic in this.

    • @jimscanoe

I've driven drunk lots-I truly believe I drive safer drunk than sober because I don't want to be caught by the cops. Besides, driving drunk adds an element of excitement to driving (which I often find boring to the point where I'm less attentive unless I am drunk).

I can't describe the hurt and anger and extreme sadness that you experience when a fellow officer is killed. Even if it's an officer from another agency. You cannot keep from putting yourself in that position. You think of their family. You imagine the knock at the he door. When Breann Leath was shot in Indy, my ex wife called me minutes after. She had been a Control Operator on her district for 15 years and Breann's mom, Jenny, was a Control Operator, also and a personal friend away from the job. I had been an officer and Breann's dad was a Deputy Sheriff. We knew her. She was a gorgeous 24 yr old kid that was on a domestic. That's been a couple of years ago and I still haven't gotten over that.
