I had TLHR and it took me six months to return to driving safely. However the problem that embarrassed me was the ability to get in and out of my car. But hopefully I managed to do it successfully.

It's been a learning experience, especially about setting up your walker after surgery. My major change occurred at my first PT visit. It seems I had my walker way to low, thus continuing walking just as I had both prior and after my procedure. Walking upright and tall as soon as you can is key to regaining both the proper mechanics of walking and reducing stress on you leg and body. Literally as soon as the adjust was made and my walking technic was changed my whole body and outlook changed. I'm off of my pain medication as my swelling and soreness are reducing by nearly 20% each day. I'm excited to hopefully drive again soon as I am now in my twelve day. Yes, the first three days were terrible, but PT is the roadmap to the promise land. Stay the course and you'll be back doing some of the things you haven't been able to do in possibly years. Good luck!

I have found that my surgeon - and, for that matter other medical and physio practitioners that I have spoken, do not understand that most current electric cars have the option of I pedal driving and simply cannot get their head round it when I explain it to them. Having had knee replacement relatively recently on my right side, I can drive without any reference to my right foot - my left foot controls all functions. I am not going to drive off my own land against their instructions as that would invalidate my insurance but frankly it is ridiculous because I can and, in fact, always do drive with my left foot.

I am 5 weeks out from right hip replacement surgery by Dr. Yun. I feel I'm healing well and getting stronger every day but since I live up a steep 10 minute drive hill off Topanga canyon which is another steep mountain road, there is a need to push the breaks often. My physical therapist thought it wise to wait til at least six weeks as the the leg can get tired and to build a bit more strength. I feel good. Wound is healing just a little red and I walk inside my house without a cane but i still get fatigued as my leg is still healing. It seems some of my regular energy goes to the leg and I think energy levels matter as well, particularly in a city like Los Angeles with plenty of traffic. You can sit in the car for a long time. Anyways, next week I am going to drive around a parking lot and see how it feels. I am looking forward to drive again and get back to moving and exercising more and more! Good luck to everyone! Dr. Yun did an amazing job. Everything went smooth and was extremely well organized. I felt well taken care of and safe! ✨✨

If I may ask, what is your age and how active / fit were you before surgery? I go under the knife in 2+ weeks at age 61 due to pathological fracture right femoral neck

@@danlynch203 I am fifty. Was not fit in general but swam last few weeks, like 4 days a week to prep for surgery and I found that very helpful. Good luck!
