  • Cross Colours became a cultural phenomenon in the early ‘90s. The company sought to break down racial barriers one brightly piece of clothing at a time. But after a few years, Cross Colours lost appeal and faded into obscurity.

Right I was on the tail end of that era too but never wore it myself but I definitely remember being in the Karl Kani and FUBU eras…then came Phat Farm & Baby Phat…then Apple Bottom, Sean Jean etc etc. Oh and these may not be black OWNED but I definitely remember a lot of “us” wearing Tommy Hilfiger, Polo, them Eastland loafers, Arizona shirt & Dickie Pants 😂 Yea all of that 🎯💯 #80sBabies90sKids

I grew up with my cousin who is only 2 years older than me but her mom (who raised me and getting a check monthly for me) got her cross colours but wouldn’t buy me anything. Just like LA Gear shoes I wanted a pair of pink and black and she got my little cousin who is 2 years younger than me exactly the ones I wanted for her birthday and got me a pair of Pro Wings 😒

I loved and still love Cross Colours. They have a website that you can still buy things from even throw back pieces from the 90s. I was a little girl and loved the bright colors. My parents wouldn’t by any of their clothing for me because it was too expensive and people were jumping other kids for their gear. As an adult it’s still expensive, just not as it was then. I remember the jeans were $300. I am planning to buy some of their gear real soon. They even have pieces dedicated to Tupac and Aaliyah. I think this brand should relaunch and make a comeback.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I was around 12-13 years old when cross colours dropped on the scene. It was a complete obsession for us to have these items in our closets along with those big sweatshirts that had the black cartoons on front or the college names. I miss those times, even us girls were fly fully dressed with our mushroom hair styles. This video took me back, it was nostalgic for me. 🥰 Cross Colours was very iconic and definitely a movement of its own during that time and it gave us a sense of pride that was indescribable. My parents could not understand what the hype was about but it was just a certain way the cloths made you feel. Especially to know that some of the same iconic figures within the culture were also supporting the brand. Cross colours will always be Iconic to me. I wish it would have stayed on course of its original purpose instead of switching things up to appease to a larger audience but that is business I suppose. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Cross Colours and the 90’s went hand and hand.

I used to love CC, I was really young but it said 90s to Me. Not sure if y'all did, Karl Kani but I would be interested in seeing it.😊

I was a pre teen when CC first came out & we have to tip our hats to their marketing team because this was “pre-internet”, so you had to do some serious legwork to get the word out. I remember CC being EVERYWHERE! 🤩. I wish that instead of them completely changing the designs, they released the neutral colored set as a small “collection” to see if it sold, but everything happens for a reason. Those fellas are definitely cultural icons!

Cross Colours, I hope you continue a steady growth. Not my clothing style, but it made such a postiive impact on the younger folks. Maybe they should have only introduced a limited amount of the neutral colors to test the market. Never altogether abandon what works.
RRG, Thanks for work that keeps us informed on black culture.
