Hitchiker's guide has been a radio show, book, musical, tv series, and many other incarnations, but the book is pretty widely considered the pinacle (i respect those that like the radio show most, its a banger). Dirk Gently is probably Adam's second most popular book series, and the series has Elijah Wood as a lead and is just fantastic.
Just so you know Jim Henson's work was mostly British as the Muppets pilot didn't go anywhere in the US, Jim came to and made it in the UK and was hugely popular it later got taken up in the US once they realised their mistake.
Douglas Adams is so much funnier in print, but the movie does have a few great gags. Turning into couches (that's a 3rd book reference iykyk) and yarn are hilarious uses of the IPD. The Guide segments are also very well done and almost verbatim from the book, as is the missile scene.
I tend to agree, although HGTTG was originally a radio play written by Adams. Then it was a TV series, and finally a series of books. Adams also wrote several series of Doctor Who in the late 70's and early 80's, including the infamous _Shada._ He cut his teeth writing with the Monty Python crew.
@@LordVolkov The first radio series was in 1978. However, after talking about this in an interview, Adams was called by his mother, who claimed that he was totally wrong - Marvin was Eeyore. Adams went to look at some older copies of Winnie the Pooh, "...and blow me down, so he was!" So you love dolphin’s. Over on the Florida coast, just south of ST Augustine, there‘s a little town called „Marineland“. If I remember correctly it was the first aquarium that had dolphins/shows and the regular assorted sea life. They even had a diver in an old brass pressure suit feed the sharks. They also filmed scenes from the „Creature of the Black Lagoon“ there. And still have some of the movie props on display. Well that was in the 60‘s. and I believe the sequel book is read by Martin Freeman so that's pretty awesome how they both got to work on the movie :) (Steven Fry was the narrator.) Have a great day and stay groovy!
Dear Lord you're old school! Weirdly, I was just thinking about that show a week ago. Haven't thought of it in forty years, and now it pops up twice in one week.
One of Douglas Adams books in this series is "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish". They just added it into this film. In real life he was also a fan of Dolphins. One of the best interactions I saw with Dolphins was with Tom Green when he was doing his funny show bits. He was treading water talking about them while one was right next to him and they were both looking at the camera. Tom splashed some water at him. The Dolphin immediately faced Tom with a look that your dog gives you when you bark at them (the oh no you didn't look). The Dolphin then starts using it's flippers and hoses Tom. It only takes a moment for another Dolphin to surface opposite side of Tom and joins in with the use if flippers hosing Tom. Lesson here; don't splash a Dolphin. They will get you back.
Tara, thank you for making me flood my room with billions of tears from laughing! I'm still grinning from ear to ear! This movie is just hilariously awesome, but your reaction tops it! The interaction between you two is brilliant too! Have an awesome week!
@@ItsTaraAnn Kevin was absolutely right to let all the laughing stay in! I even like the reactions to movies you don't like, because they are so real and being real is the most important thing!
Useless fact. 1)It's Marvin the manic depressive robot 2)the robot waiting in the queue line is actually Marvin from the original British series which personally I think is better. Sure it's really low budget but, that gives it more charm (at least in my opinion it does). I would suggest you give it a look you might like it. Great reaction video!

So, years and years ago, I signed up for the Science Fiction Book Club. One of those "Pay a dollar and get 7 books" things. (And then they'll keep sending you them if you forget to respond in time, which as a youngun, my parents were not happy about.) Aside from Barlow's Guide to Extraterrestrials, which is still awesome, and The Chronicles of Amber (which I bought because it was like 15 million pages long and was a great choice for 15 cents), the only book that I remember picking up was Hitchhiker's. Never regretted that choice. It's sitting in my living room right now and it got to meet Mr. Adams at a book signing before his untimely passing. And rarely a week goes by without me quoting this. "“It is worth repeating at this point the theories that Ford had come up with, on his first encounter with human beings, to account for their peculiar habit of continually stating and restating the very very obvious, as in "It's a nice day," or "You're very tall," or "So this is it, we're going to die.""
if you like Dolphins and Sci-Fi. the 2nd book in the first Uplift Trilogy by David Brin has intelligent dolphins flying a spaceship :) it's called 'Startide Rising'
I’ll have to rewatch this movie before I do this reaction. For some reason I’ve only seen it once. With better understanding it may hit better. Lesser Dolphin biased though.😂 I’ve never seen such a strong intro reaction.
I’ve swam with wild dolphins a few times, once in Georgia, and a couple of times in the Florida Keys. I also swam with Manatees while I was in Florida. Being the animal lover that she is, if Tara hasn’t seen Harry and the Hendersons, you guys should at the very least check it out, I’d enjoy seeing a reaction to it if she hasn’t seen it. Edit: The reason you think that the Vogons look like a combination of the Skeksis, Oogra, and the Mondoshawans from The Fifth Element, is because all of them were prosthetic suits designed by Jim Hensen’s Creature Shop.
Yes I have swam with Dolphins before in Florida but they were in the wild so I didn't get to touch them but I was pretty excited about it. Manatees are DEFINITELY on my bucket list!! Harry was a staple in my house with my brother as a child ( one movie he actually did not try to "scare" me with and we enjoyed together) and we talked about the creature shop at the end! Thanks for watching!
@@ItsTaraAnn Yeah, I kind of figured that you had seen Harry, but I wanted throw it out there on the off chance you hadn’t seen it. I kind of figured that you guys would talk about the creature shop at some point, but I found it interesting that you made the connection to The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth and Kevin made the connection to The Fifth Element. The dolphins I swam with in Florida were wild, but were pretty friendly, and somewhat socialized to people, so I actually did get to touch them while I was swimming with them. I’m glad you enjoyed this movie, I’ve always enjoyed it. So long, and thanks for all the fish!!

Vogons are the burocrats that process the swamp politicians live in! lol A better comparison would be that they are the IRS. They have a form for everything and if there isn't a form for it it can't be done...until they have a meeting, to form a committee, to create a survey to determine if there's a need to take the requested course of action, that will require another committee to process the results and present the findings to the first committee, who will then form a new committee to create the necessary forms for individuals to fill out to get approval for the newly authorized action.
Oh wow what an adorable start of a reaction to my favorite movie based on a five book trilogy. A great design that isn’t often noticed is the Vogons have their nose very up on their face, and pointed up. As if they evolved alongside a species that slaps the face of anyone who thinks about anything. No wonder they are so bureaucratic.

You should react to the movie Big Trouble (2002). It's an amazingly ridiculous movie that is PACKED with big name actors and a rapper (Heavy D) from the 80s and 90s. It's written by a news paper humor columnist named Dave Barry and Dave Barry has authored a ton of books filled with short stories he used when writing for the paper. great reaction! love this story and the movie is fun!!!
and I believe the sequel book is read by Martin Freeman so that's pretty awesome how they both got to work on the movie :) (Steven Fry was the narrator.) Have a great day and stay groovy!
46:20 Just once I'd like to land on a haystack.
Dear Lord you're old school! Weirdly, I was just thinking about that show a week ago. Haven't thought of it in forty years, and now it pops up twice in one week.
If ever you cant sleep i highly recommend the audio book
I don't think I've seen Tara get broken by a movie so thoroughly
Right? the beauty of this show is you never know what to expect!
So Glad you enjoyed!! Kevin Felt like it was too good to cut any of it LOL
@@ItsTaraAnn Kevin was absolutely right to let all the laughing stay in!
I even like the reactions to movies you don't like, because they are so real and being real is the most important thing!
@@spacebearsven7130❤🙏🏼
No one is ever ready for this movie but they love it when they see it
do you want a sequel? You really gotta catch the BBC production of this from back in the 80s I believe. Covers all the books.
So.... did she see "Day of the Dolphin"?. Talking dolphins!
Useless fact.
1)It's Marvin the manic depressive robot
2)the robot waiting in the queue line is actually Marvin from the original British series which personally I think is better. Sure it's really low budget but, that gives it more charm (at least in my opinion it does). I would suggest you give it a look you might like it.
Great reaction video!
Hey Hey there Tara❤
LOVED your reaction to the dolphins at the beginning. This movie cracked me up when I first watched it. Thanks for the reaction. Have a good evening. 😊.P.S. I don't do NFL either. I don't watch millionaires play sports.
2:10 W.C. Fields said it best “ I’m not prejudice I hate everyone equally “ 😂😂😂👍🏻👍🏻🤔🇺🇸🤠
40:55 cameo by the Marvin robot from the 1980's British version of this movie.
WOW! I have never seen so much emotion over so little !you had 😂.. New video of the puppy is up! You can cry if ya want! Lol
I will check it out
40:56 *MY* Marvin.
43:13 *MY* Arthur.
45:05 Never explained in the movie. Poor Agrajag. Love an Easter egg. Well done, movie.
57:00 Awww, shame you cut out the last shot - Douglas' head.
As the dolphins might say: "Bless it!"
SAME!!!! 🤣
"“It is worth repeating at this point the theories that Ford had come up with, on his first encounter with human beings, to account for their peculiar habit of continually stating and restating the very very obvious, as in "It's a nice day," or "You're very tall," or "So this is it, we're going to die.""
if you like Dolphins and Sci-Fi.
the 2nd book in the first Uplift Trilogy by David Brin has intelligent dolphins flying a spaceship :)
it's called 'Startide Rising'
I’ll have to rewatch this movie before I do this reaction. For some reason I’ve only seen it once. With better understanding it may hit better. Lesser Dolphin biased though.😂
I’ve never seen such a strong intro reaction.
If you really like Sam Rockwell you ABSOLUTELY need to watch Moon.
It was a staple for me growing up as well, and is another comfort movie for me.
22:48 the narrator is Steven Fry one of the smartest people I have ever watched. He’s quite clever as they say over the pond (🇬🇧) 🤔🤔😂😂👍🏻🤠🇺🇸
It's spelled Stephen, but yeah cool guy
Loved your reaction to the dolphins during the opening credits 🐬🐬 😂
Some things just can't be helped 🤣
awe, such love for Dolphins! you might actually enjoy a podcast episode from The Dollop called The Dolphin Researcher
the woman in the bar staring them down is the same woman who played Trisha in the British tv show adaption of the Hitchhiker's Guide
If you Haven't Enjoyed the Book, it's so Worth it, Awesome Reaction

Tara, you gotta read the books! They are soooo easy to read, you can get through them each in like an afternoon if you try, be done with all 5 in a week if you want.
lol your reaction to the answer to life the universe and everything was the exact same as me. when i was reading the books i thought 42 was so obsurd that i laughed so hard i had to put the book down for a week. ever since 42 has been my fav number and even have it incorporated into my icon
It really was ridiculous! But sounded so much like something I would say!😂
You need to read the books, or listen to the radio play. The radio play is awesome
You need to see Ace Ventura Pet Detective- plot revolves around finding a dolphin
Seen it love it
Tara u should check out Discovery Cove in Florida a resort that you can swim with dolphins
No Vogons are not like politicians. The Narrator said Vogons weren’t evil.
More like untethered civil servants...
Bureaucrats, not politicians.
I'm not sure you can watch "the big blue", that is perhaps the perfect dolphin movie ever.
This was done as a TV mini-series in the 80s. Zaphod's two heads were side by side but one was fake of course and looked like it was made of paper machete. Really terrible.
You have to read the books! They are amazing and hilarious!
There is no ride but there is a restaurant @the end of the universe😉
The vogons look that way because they keep getting smacked in the face for thinking.
Without doubt my favorite reaction of yours you made me laugh so much thank you for making my fay a lot better x
💖🙏🙏 Its making me so happy that this video seems to be bringing so much joy to people!! I was worried about it but Kevin said it was too good to chop up and not to share!! Thank you so much and thanks for watching!!
Always love your reactions. Seeing that you love Jim Henson I was wondering if you would consider doing a series "Farscape" it is a Henson show that is right up your quirky alley. Would love to see it. ❤❤
A movie with a similar humor beat, with some help from Quintin Tarantino, is Four Rooms.
The eavesdropper at the pub was played by Su Elliott, who played Oz's wife in the cult British show Auf Wiedersehen Pet th-cam.com/video/kCqRrJM2B2o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fGpdydN0Cwubz0ZR&t=900
Slartibartfast was actually originally meant to be named Phartiphukborlz
such an unexpected reaction to the dolphins at the start
You would absolutely love the books. I highly recommend checking them out. They’re hilarious.
They are filled with insane stories that had me laughing till I couldn't breathe. One was a story about the toad licking "craze" from the 80s or 90s and it's amazing. Big Trouble (2002) is a movie that he made and it's like an insane and ridiculous 85 min version of one of his stories.
Well, we did it. Less than 60 seconds in and we've got 😭😭😭😭
