    You fell for the Line trap ... don't worry, very few people get that right, some catch on when they keep repeating "iine iine" at the end.
    This was just their second song (well technically their third, but it was the second single they released) and they were establishing early on no rules apply to them and anything goes - if they want to mix all the genres they can think of into one song they will do just that.
    They did warn you about that drop - "Yo Yo Yo Yo. Microphone check. One two one two. Are you ready to mosh? Kitsune da o!" That drop is so good when they play this live.
    One (very early I think) live version I saw with subtitles, just before the drop Yui and Moa even said "Hold on. This isn't metal is it?"

      IIRC it goes like this:.
      "Wait a moment"
      "Wait a moment"
      "Aren't we supposed to play metal?"
      "This isn't metal, is it?".
      *Drop to death growls :D
      Can't remember which girls starts this convo though.

      The altered Yui/Moa spoken part is from *Vega Mix* of _Iine_ that appeared on Sakura Gakuin's album. And that video is probably originated from SG's "First Live & Documentary..." DVD where they used the *Vega Mix* version as a backtrack.

    KOBAMETAL: SU-MOA-YUI, how many different music genres can you sing in one song?
    SU-MOA-YUI: YES
    (November 28) is the 10th Anniversary of #BABYMETAL's first live performance at the Sakura Gakuin Festival 2010 where they played Doki Doki ☆ Morning This is actually the 2nd performance of the day. BABYMETAL debut on stage 2010-11-28 Sakura Gakuin Festival ☆ 2010 at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse.
    For something the critics said WAS JUST A GIMMIC!!, they are still ROCKIN IT after a tough 2018. I for ONE are proud of them and look foreword to 2021 and all the joy that they bring....
    #BABYMETAL earned ¥1.097 billion for 107,500 tickets sold on tour making them the #1 female artist in Japan and second in the biggest touring market in industry of year 2019.
    They are also the most successful female group in history with no sexy concept.

    This was their 3rd song they played live, and they had not settled on a sound yet. They also weren't backed by the record company yet - they borrowed clothes from a teacher and some friends to make costumes. They have a couple more looks in their evolution untril they get to what you are accustomed to. The girls choose their own outfits by the way.
    No one believes Su does that scream. I have room for doubt, because the tambor sounds right. But it is certainly pre-recorded of somebody in concert

    Never try to second guess BabyMetal they still catch the
    Fans out even now .
    There is not a song i dislike from BabyMetal . They make you happy excited and even sad . Su has the
    Power to portrày these emotions in her performance . The more you see
    and learn about them the more you
    Love them . A lot of fans will say including me , that they have never been so invested in band like they are with BabyMetal. 🤘🦊🤘❤

    ⚡ 💀 💕 / 👍
    This is the probably the ultimate, "Do you like music genres? We smooshed them all into this one song for you."
    Too bad they haven't performed this song since they toured with the Red Hot Chili Peppers in April of 2017.
    Sometimes I think they're just making fun of the Hip Hop style, before they hit us with the heaviest part of the song.
    The first, self-titled album came out in 2014, and collected many of the previously released singles (like this one), along with new songs.
    Overall, I think the second and third albums are more cohesive, although there are quite a few amazing tracks on the first record.
    That doesn't mean they stopped blending genres at will though. : )

    It's actually not 'Line", it's i i n e pronounced ee-neh (so good). This was so early in their careers that Su had to borrow the jacket she's wearing from one of her teachers. This is one of the rear times that it's better to see the official video, since the live performances don't have that rap section, which is too bad actually.

    • @Dragon-Believer
      @Dragon-Believer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      It's actually 'thumbs up' rather than 'so good'. You can see the girls and the crowd all doing thumbs up in the video. They did the rap segment in some early performances like the 2011 Sakura Gakuin graduation. th-cam.com/video/XeDgyu9EuwE/w-d-xo.html And live in Tokyo 2012.

      I'm not a Japanese speaker, but as far as I know it's used like "great" in English. Like, someone asks "How're you doing?" Then if you're feeling great that day you say "iine!"

    • @Wagoo
      @Wagoo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Dragon-Believer "so good" is more accurate. Literally it's just "good, isn't it!" - the thumbs up thing comes because for example sites like Facebook use "いいね" rather than a thumbs up icon for likes

    • @UnsoberIdiot
      @UnsoberIdiot 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Eh, sort of. iine is more like "good, eh?" or "it's good, isn't it?"
      ii means good, and ne means something like "right?" or "isn't it" or "yeah?"
      Example: you take you friend to a restaurant, and you want them to like the food. They taste it, and you ask/exclaim "ii, ne?" to say that you think it's good, and are asking if your friend agrees.

  • @mr.osclasses5054
    @mr.osclasses5054 4 ปีที่แล้ว +34

    Quick correction for you guys, this song is "Iine" with a double- i (pronounced ee-nay). A lot to hit on, so here we go! No, none of the screams/growls come from the girls. Though Moa and Yui (the dancers/backing vocals) are listed as "scream/dance", that is meant that they are getting the crowd to do those things. They're basically hype-ladies. This song is one of their first three to be recorded. I think it was the first recorded, but their song "Doki Doki Morning" was their first released song and their first video (I might be getting that confused with IDZ, though). This was their second video. I believe this video came out in early 2012.
    Their budget was so low at the beginning that the girls had to borrow clothes. Su, the lead singer, borrowed the jacket she wears in the first couple videos they did from a teacher at the school they went to as part of their idol group, Sakura Gakuin, to which they were an off-shoot of. Moa borrowed a vest from Yui, and Yui borrowed a vest from another student whose name escapes me (Grington or Rick Wagner, help me out!)
    They always play with different genres of music and sub-genres of metal, so it should come as no surprise that it started immediately for them. That is what is great about this group, no two songs sound the same.
    You guys should definitely check out the videos for a Su solo called "Rondo of Nightmare" with Mischiefs of God Intro. - th-cam.com/video/OV9uNKohP0o/w-d-xo.html
    Also, Yui and Moa by themselves, called Black BABYMETAL (they did this to give Su a rest during concerts like she did for them with her solo's), with the song "Sis. Anger" - th-cam.com/video/BZLZcoWZKN0/w-d-xo.html

    Babymetal mixes everything with metal that is there "Niche"
    Looking for workout music you should try Da Da Dance, one of their newer songs the video is a splice from two of their shows featuring the amazing Riho-Metal and Momoko-Metal supporting Su and Moa. (Yui left for medical reasons over a year ago at this point)

  • @mitchellhodgemeyer7306
    @mitchellhodgemeyer7306 4 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Just FYI, the song title is pronounced "ee-nay." On of the failures of the English alphabet - a capital "i" looks exactly like a lower case "l." The song is "iine," with a double ii representing an extra "ee" sound. You'll encounter this double "ee" sound again when talking about Babymetal's invented sub-genre of metal, which is called "kawaii" metal, which means "cute" metal in English. If you say "kawai" without the extra "ee" sound on the end, it means "scared" or "fearful" in Japanese instead of "cute."
    Anyway, I would recommend maybe checking out something from their new album to mix things up from what you've already covered - how about BxMxC. Most of the clips of this song on TH-cam are fan clips from various shows, but here's a clip taken from their recent Japan Metal Galaxy Extra Show Blu-Ray:

If the singer has a red and black plaid jacket on. that was the costumes they assembled themselves by borrowing from friends as their 1st costume. They had no budget at first, they couldn't afford to hire a band to play live, they spent it all in studio. The music and growls are backtracked at this time.

    I wouldn't say that it was before they found their niche. Fusing different genres IS their niche. Although I would admit that in this case it's a little more in-your-face than usual. I'm not quite sure how serious they are about this song, judging by the outfits during that Hip Hop part, I'd assume not very. This was the first song I heard by them, and I was intrigued. If i remember right this was one of their first songs, and they were 16 and 14 years old at the time.

      They were a lot younger than that. It was posted to youtube in nov 2012 when Su was 14. So the very oldest they could be is Su could be 14 and Yui and Moa could be 13 but they were younger than that. Dunno how much. Those are their very first outfits which are their own clothes. They had those outfits in 2011 and 2012.

      Earlier than that, my friend. It was one of their first songs recorded ever in early 2012 and the video was released in November of the same year, making Su 14 and Yui and Moa 12 at the time of recording, then 13 at the time of the video release.

    Song name is "ii ne"
    Iine means something like "good, eh?" or "it's good, isn't it?"
    ii means good, and ne means something like "right?" or "isn't it" or "yeah?" (or root, or a number of other words. Japanese is dumb. But in this context, it's as I said)
    Example: you take you friend to a restaurant, and you want them to like the food. They taste it, and you ask/exclaim "ii, ne?" to say that you think it's good, and are asking if your friend agrees.

    I don't think children are allowed to work beyond 7pm in JAPAN so it was probably filmed in the day time and the people in the club are probably extras. Such was born on December 20 th 1997 and that was filmed in November 2012.Yui and Moa are 18 months younger. So Sure is one month away from her 14th birthday and the young girls are 12 and a half. So not a bad effort. What did you do during the holidays when you were 12yo. I know what I was doing. Not much.

      This is one of the somewhat hidden gems, as it takes most reactors a lot longer to get to it. When I started listening to them about six months, I found this song so cringey because of the rap part being such a stereotyped sound from old rap in the U.S. The more I heard it, the more it grew on me and I love it now. It has such an upbeat vibe and the meaning of "iine" being "so good", it feels like a summer song to me and I just get amped when it comes on.

    • @emb5091
      @emb5091 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mr.osclasses5054 I completely agree. I'm a 48 year old, old school hiphophead and when I first saw this video years ago, I started to cringe at the "Yo, Yo" part, but it grew on me. And Su's rapping and dancing actually impressed me. Even in BxMxC, which I hated when I first heard the studio recording, Su's rapping and attitude is so legit in the live performances, that I can't help but like it now.

    • @mr.osclasses5054
      @mr.osclasses5054 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@emb5091 We will have to part ways when it comes to "BxMxC", man. I have loved that song from the very beginning. The only issue I have with it is at the end of the live performances when Su goes into a crouching stance that is supposed to look hard, but it just doesn't for me. It's like Mikiko, their choreographer, was trying way too hard to push something "rap" or "hip-hop" physically into the song.
      I love the rest of the choreography of it, though. I 100% agree that her flow and rapping, along with her attitude/the stage presence she's always had mesh SO well! It is easily in my top 5 songs from the new album and definitely in my top 10 of all their songs. I don't dare try to pick an actual favorite because their stuff is all just amazing...even their not great stuff is still really good!

    • @emb5091
      @emb5091 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mr.osclasses5054 Yes, I feel the same about the crouching too. But to be fair, it may have been worse to have the girls end the performance with them standing with their arms crossed and leaning on each other back to back...similar to cheesy poses in 80's Hollywood made breakdancing movies, "Breakin'" and it's sequel! LOL
