  • How thin can a Woodmizer LT15 cut? This large alder log has been sitting out for over a year. I opened it up with my Woodmizer LT15 sawmill to see if it is spalted inside. I cut it into a thin sheet of veneer, live edge slabs and Lumber.

    Sorry guys I was a little sluggish in this one. I was in the middle of fighting off that bug the world has been talking about for the past two years.

    Beautiful lumber.
    I wish we had that sunlight!
    Hope you're feeling better.

      Thank you Dave, I am on the mend. If you have any rain or snow, I will trade you for some sun. We could use a lot more of that.

    That thin piece of Alder could be used to make lamp shades. 😎

    No one can be 100 percent 100 percent of the time. If it's the same bug I had you are a super man. Take care !

    That's really cool, and beautiful veneers probably more saleable than raw lumber? it will be interesting to see what they finish out at, after surfacing and drying. That's the other cool thing - couldn't take more than a week or so in a heated room to dry those properly, so the turnaround could be really fast.

    I live in Washington state and we are inundated with alders everywhere on the West Coast of the state and I have never seen alder with bark like that I have alders that size on my property right now.

      Cutting it into firewood and lumber is as far as I have worked with it. It is one of the softer hardwoods and it’s supposedly very nice to work with for furniture and cabinetry. It’s also good for smoke flavor for cooking.

      I’ve made a couple of alder spoons. It’s soft enough to be easily worked for that.

      Yes I think it had a tooth out of whack. It came that way out of the box.

    I occasionally make Guitar cases and finding budget veneer that can be formed is very difficult. Veneers are usually decorative and thus expensive.. So, there is a market..

    I wish we had alder trees that large here, the most we get is alder bushes that grow about 4 inches in diameter and 12 feet tall. It's more of a nuisance around wetlands than anything else. But the beaver like them for building dams and winter feed.

    • @WilsonForestLands
      @WilsonForestLands  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a few close to 3 foot diameter. I wouldn’t mind having some beavers in my creek. Although maybe not, they might eat all my big alder.

    Excellent work on the Mill today! I think I am going to "binge watch" your Channel later, along with some Angus Steaks on the grill...lol Alder is very popular in instrument builds, Leo Fender would attest, RIP.

      No relation to Mr Rodgers that I know of. I come from a different neighborhood. I’m not sure if I can rock the sweaters the way he did. 😁Someone else commented that I might be related to Bob Ross. I am in the same state as Jason from NW Sawyer, but we are on opposite ends of the state. I watch his videos sometimes.
