It's favourite Vocal Moment time!
This is one of my fav songs of Faouzia and I love singing it! Here are some of my fav vocals in time stamps:
0:11 - HER TONE! Just to start, these verses are gorgeous. The melody is so simple but it gives us that haunting quality we hear from Faouzia's "stripped" versions! And btw, these are Ab3 notes, pretty low for a female singer and to have such TONE here is incredible!
0:16 - The word "anyone" gives us our first taste of Faouzia's signature sound with a small trill almost sounding like vibrato. So difficult to replicate.
0:23 - On the word "I'm" we have some vocal fry as it starts. This can help a singer navigate pitch a little easier as well as being a stylistic addition to the word.
0:25 - The word "end" has that beautiful signature sound again. So stunning.
0:26 - Listen carefully to every time she sings "note" here. The speed of the vibrato is matched every time she sings it and on the word "closed" too.
0:34 - Okay, this. This is so difficult. It's an octave jump from an Ab3 to an Ab4 with only one breath between the notes. To have such precision in pitch here is so difficult to achieve. It happens again at 1:42.
0:35 - The breath control it takes to sing this chorus is insane. During the chorus, listen to the breath placement. It's so precise exactly where it HAS to be in order to maintain enough breath to reach the end of the chorus. It takes a lot out of you, this chorus with maintaining pitch and belting as high as Eb5. And the second chorus is even more difficult!
0:38 - "The end so I pretend it's sweet" So much is happening in these lyrics. Vocal trills on "end" and "I" with precise pitch on the reoccurring Ab4's with a flip to head voice into the word "sweet".
0:46 - The vowels she achieves on "yeah but now right now" make the sound more interesting to the listener and adds style.
0:48 - This is vocally very demanding belting up to an Eb5 with perfect pitch precision then a fast vibrato on the belt on the word "me" (which is widely known as a difficult vowel to sing so high) all in only one breath?
0:55 - Signature sound is back with some quick trills leading to a quick head voice with the word "I" almost closing off the air as she sings it. This is even more evident in the second chorus, 2:03.
0:59 - The word "crashing" is sung as if it sounds. Emphasising the constants like an onomatopoeia.
1:05 - Our second belted Eb5, but this time finishes with a switch into a beautiful head voice.
1:10 - Another octave jump in one breath from the Ab4 in head voice to the 2nd verse at Ab3.
1:19 - "make believe" has some beautiful trills again! Leading to the word "sometimes" sustained on the consonant "m" with a little F4 to end the sustain and an airy vocal on "times".
1:34 - I love how this verse she continued this melody further with "pretend like I don't know..." Keeps the listener interested in anticipation.
1:40 - an Eb3, the lowest note in the song, executed with excellent tone and precision.
1:47 - To go from pretty much a constant chest voice for almost 2 minutes to suddenly hit the highest note in the song of an Ab5 with such precision is so impressive. It makes me think that as a singer, Faouzia is quite comfortable up in this high head voice and it's almost a little vocal break for her instead of having to do the arguably more challenging melody she had done in the first chorus. The Ab5 returns at 2:59 but even stronger.
1:48 - 2:00 - I thought it might interest yo that she isn't playing any base notes from her piano during this time. This highlights her voice and adds more interest for the listener.
2:15 - The word "works" is so stunning. She adds a lot of "cry" into it, this is a great way to evoke emotion.
2:18 - YES! This is Faouzia at her best! I love the Moroccan style vocal trills she does as she falls through the scale down to a Db3. Quite an unexpected ending as well keeping the listener engaged. From 2:26 you have the stunning climb of the scale with perfectly timed trills ending with a very well placed belt on Db5 - C5. This is very challenging as from 2:26, the phrase is all in one breath sustained for 10 seconds with a lot of difficult vocal techniques, runs and sustains.
2:38 - Gorgeous head voice to begin the chorus and build for the ending...
2:52 - NINE sustained C5's with a growl too followed by a fast vibrato "for me" ending with a perfectly placed belt with a cry too.
3:05 - Changing up the melody with some stunning vibrato on "but not right" with a few trills too.
3:09 - This time, "it's kinda funny how it all works out" begins with head voice and falls to chest voice on "all" then finishes in head voice on "works out". A great way to evoke emotion.

Side note: This song was the first song I heard of Faouzia's and as soon as she sang "Goodbye always starts with hello" I immediately understood the hype. That is all.

well the reason I didn't listen to her songs until a few months ago was simply because I didn't even know her existence before her version of 'I dare you'... believe me I would have supported her from the start if TH-cam algorythm actually did their job (lol I'm angry because her voice is exactly what I like and I can't believe I've been listening to her songs for such short time)

Wow!!!! She was having so much fun with this stripped version!! Well the vocals sure weren't stripped!! My gosh.. she was playing and dazzling us with all her skills!!! I loved her playing with all the verbrato.. trills.. yodels if you will.. the falsetto..head, chest and middle voice... I could go on and on..... haha... Sorry.... not .. sorry!! ;) I loved all the glances of playing up to the camera.. her showing her joy of playing the piano, singing and well just her love of sharing her music!!! Bravo.. this was totally worth the wait!!! Now .. I am going to hit replay again.. and again... and well.. you know.....

I'm absolutely in love with everything she does. She's so good at expressing every single emotion in a song, she's amazing at singing so professionally AND with singing with emotions at the same time. Sometimes you can listen to a singer and he can sing very professionally but absolutely lack of emotions. Faouzia has everything you need to FEEL music. It's unbelievable. And her lyrics are always hit me, I feel every line, it's just gets under my skin. i have never felt something like that.
