Dan did a beautiful sensitive job to this ballad. He did this video in January 2018, and his dad passed in October 2017, this was only 3 months after that. This one was extra emotional for Dan. No wonder with these lyrics...❤
He is being faithful to the original written and sung by actor BILLY BOYD who played one of the Hobbits in terms of the arrangement but his voice is stronger and oh so much better. This is what I want played at my celebration of life when I pass! I love this version.
He must have been thinking of his Dad when singing this song. It is so heartfelt and beautiful. You can see the tears in his eyes. My all time favorite of his. Thanks so much for continuing to react to his songs.
I love this cover by Dan. It just melts me into a puddle with the gentleness, sentimentality, and melancholy he brings into it. The register that he's in through this song takes me right where he's directed me to go. And the tear on his cheek hurts my heart. ♥
Hello! I am so glad that I came across your channel today. I have heard Dan sing this s few times and always sensed his intense sentimentality. I knew it was close to his father's passing but wasn't sure of the timeline. In reading your listener's comments, this was 3 months afterward, so no wonder he connected to it. He was still mourning but in another very personal and public way. Your reaction was lovely. Thank you. 🤗
A beautiful, emotional song. He puts so much emotion in this song it brought tears to my eyes. He recorded this not long after his father passed so I imagine he was thinking of him which made me think of my late father.
I always thought he was thinking of his Father. I love your reactions to the beloved Dan. I totally agree with your observations of him. This song always makes me get tears in my eyes.
I am sure that Dan does songs like this so we can all know when he is exercising his artistic license. It reminds me of Picasso's sketch of Virginia Woolf, which is a beautiful charcoal sketch, nearly flawless, that then showed how Guernica was not just an abstract, but an editorial on the horrors of war. Dan's ballad voice is pure, like an olde Englishe troubador.
Hi Maria, I loved this beautiful Dan's cover 🫶 Dan's rendition was very emotional, beautiful!!! Glad you enjoyed it ;) I love this sad song ❤ Thank you to another great reaction to Dan. Big hugs 💐
Billy Boyd's version is similar but I find Dan's version better. As the tear is rolling down his face near the end of the song, I usually have tears myself. He has mentioned that he does feel emotion when singing and he uses it in his performances. Thanks for your reaction. This is one of my many favorites.
What is wrong with these people asking you to play something other than Dan? Very rarely do I play anything else. This is one of my favorites - although I appreciate everything he does, I am more of a traditionalist and love his natural voice.
While Dans Metal style of vocals is EPIC, this style of singing is where the incredible beauty of his voice really is displayed! Great reaction to the phenomenal Dan Vasc!
Ok, so I went and listened to Dan's cover and Billy Boyd's original version. As far as I can tell, Dan used the original arrangement. The main difference is in the sound of their voices. In my opinion, Dan's is richer/fuller, but this is by no means a knock upon Billy who not only sang it, but the played acoustic guitar part as well.
@@WhyAmIReacting Yes, yes, yes! It's similar to this one in a lot of ways, and it'll get to you quickly. I can't even appreciate Geoff Castellucci's version of the song, after Hearing Dan do his version first (and I love Geoff).
You might be interested to hear Dan casually sing most of this same song while he’s gaming. The date was August 8 ‘17., so shortly before his Dad passed in October of the same year. Dan still sings it so sweetly. I was imagining “what if Dan was singing this to a baby to get them to fall asleep”. Then I realized the lyrics wouldn’t be appropriate for a lullaby, but still… it has that sweetness to it. Maybe a “Leaving the Battlefield Lullaby.” 🤣 I’ll post the link in a reply to myself here. Fair warning: There’s a sprinkling of cuss words in the rest of the video although not the song itself.
Very versatile singer. I know he prefers metal but this type of music is more appealing to me and I think for his voice. 😢 Breaks my heart for a wonderful vocalist as he ruin his beautiful voice with hard metal.
Dan does not ruin his voice by singing metal style! He has ten years of formal training, plus years of studying his favorite singers. Also, he knows what he can and cannot do with his voice and how to take care of it, and himself, physically so that he doesn't damage himself. Now, if us mere mortals tried to do what he does, we'd hurt our voices. Singers like Dan and Jonathan Young take excellent care of themselves!
He did this song just a few months after his dad passed away, and he's said that he was thinking about him and that's why there are tears in his eyes.
Dan being very emotional and sensitive..love this version also all his covers..❤He is the BOSS!

When he sings like this it melts my heart. He is beyond talented. We are so blessed. Thanks for the reactions.
I enjoy watching someone see the softer side of Dan's talents. And I really like watching your kitty lounging in the sunshine.
I always love the kitty, too!❤

When he talks of his fallen brothers I wonder if he is reflecting on his military service experience…

Dan did Misty Mountains in a collaboration with Skar on Skar Productions channel.
Yes! 😀
Thanks! I was just coming here to mention this. Already done. ✅

Thank you for you reaction.
For emotions please check out Dan's Son Of Pain. Yoe will really see him cry.
YES!
Have you reacted to Dan's cover of I See Fire? It is also incredibly beautiful and very emotional. I think it was also from the Hobbit.
I haven't....I'll have to check it out. :)

To go right to the Last Goodbye song, look for the 5:20 time stamp.
