"Not new" is, perhaps, an understatement--this thing has been around since 2018 and in Klim-Years, that puts perilously close to a complete redesign. It's bad enough that we have to live in fear of new iPhone releases, but the thought of plunking down $1,300-ish (for the suit) only find out a "new and improved" model may only be a few weeks away, keeps me up at night. One only has to look at the Badlands update for proof--the old one works, but the new version is obviously superior. In truth, I don't mind carrying around an older iPhone, but considering these Klim suits are essentially "live-in" garments that we rely on for protection from weather and the road, any possible uptic in performance or comfort is worth waiting for. How long one should wait is another question. I'll have to make a decision at some point, but the weather here in Nevada means I can wait longer than most. Mean time--keep these great videos coming!

Fab and perfect timing for me. I was looking for something lighter than the heavy stuff out there, waterproof and warm and flexible. Thanks chap.

Chris, I always find your videos informative, but perhaps a little static. I would like to see the camera zooming in on the details you are talking about (e.g. the pull cord on the neck of this jacket). Maybe open the jacket up to show the interior etc. Just a thought... 👍🏻

That’s a very fair comment, and of course we realise that, from a videographer’s standpoint, we could make our reviews more interesting with some added ‘b’ roll footage. But it’s all about time, and therefore I suppose about money. Graham is our in-house designer and ‘do-everything’ guy. He shoots all our videos and then edits them. He does all our Facebook posts, he does all of our email bulletins, as well as the daily bulletins for our diecast business. He does most of our photography, he does a lot of uploading of stuff on the web, he creates the editorial that we post on Google. He is our technical guy on comms., and does most of our customer installations. He does loads of other stuff. He’s even our go-to on light bulbs. Bottom line? Graham is hugely busy. He never complains about extra workload, but right now it probably takes him about an hour or so to edit a video. Frankly, I would be embarrassed to ask him to spend much more time on the edit. Yes, I know we could make our videos more dynamic, but we move at such a speed here. We tend to get something done, then move onto the next job on the list. It just would not work here spending hours and hours on making our videos better. We take the view that they are a bit rough and ready, but good enough. They contain lots of useful information and objective advice. They just are not works of art! CP.

@@Motolegends yes, I totally appreciate that you must have pretty rigorous time constraints. And I kind of half guessed that was the reason for the lack of dynamism. I'm not suggesting your videos should be works of art, but maybe a smidge of b-roll here and there would add to your already informative reviews. Cheers! GS

Another well presented and informative video. These guys not only seem to certainly know their stuff and listening to them they put customer service high in their list of priorities. I only wish they were closer so it was viable for me to visit the shop.

A shadow of the first offering which I still ride in, over 90k miles to date. Every time I look into updating to the newer model I can clearly see the reduction of costs applied to Klim’s updated Latitude. I’m hoping the next edition returns to the values of the original of the series, which has been the absolute best touring gear I’ve ever owned.

Nice review Chris. I have both this Latitude as well as the first Generation Kodiak (AA rated). Yes, the Latitude is lighter thanks to it's two-layer shell, but the Kodiak is a far better jacket. It has better venting (10 total vents!), more leather overlays, chest armor and a more robust feel. It's a heavier jacket thank to both the 3-layer Pro shell and the level two armor. Honestly, once donned, neither jacket feels heavy at all.
I bought the Latitude to handle warmer-weather street riding, leaving the cold road riding to the Kodiak, but it's practically a toss-up in the heat. Once the temps "Klim" (see what I did there?) up into the high 80's or 90's, they both stay home and I reach for the Baja S4 - an outstanding jacket as well. The Baja works great both on road and off, though the cut is more boxy than the fitted Latitude and Kodiak jackets.

Updating my comments from 4 months ago: Most important point to make here is, as I feared, KLIM was on the verge of releasing an updated version the Latitude and as of this writing they have! The latest is version 5 and to my knowledge its only become available this week. I know this because A) I just received mine (jacket and pant), and B) because when I tried to order the set a week earlier, most sizes were listed as "sold out". Curiously, I also ordered the Kodiak set as well--it's also with me now. That bit of happenstance gave me the opportunity to try both suits on in the comfort of my own home, go sit on my own bike, and stare at my reflection in the mirror more than once. Frankly, I liked them both and for a brief moment considered keeping all four pieces. Ultimately, I came to my senses and picked only one: the new FIFTH generation Latitude. In the end the Kodiak is just TOO heavy and uncomfortable to wear. Honestly, I don't think I'm giving up too much taking the one over the "tuther" (as Chris might say). I live in a climate warm 80% of the time, but I do expect to spend at least a couple of weeks riding in the mountains and possibly venturing as far north as Canada. I expect I'll still be dry and as warm as need be in the Latitude--I have layers! But enough about me--the thing I want to point out is that new jacket is very updated--most of the issues Chris has taken exception to have been addressed (there are now two side adjustment straps per side. The cuffs are zippered, adjustable, and vented). I could go on, but I don't want to be accused of attempting to upstage Chris--I know he'll be making a new video soon to cover all the changes and improvements. I'm glad I waited; hope you did too?!

is the 5th gen latitude CE AA rated? Seems to be conflicting data with the klim website saying A but some other websites saying AA.

Good wet weather suit- will certainly keep you dry, but the vents in the forearms and beside the shoulders don't really do anything, you have to learn how to use it and that involves having the main front zip almost completely open as well as the exhaust/side vents open. Then you will get a decent airflow throughout the chest and back. A less than ideal situation, but it is the only way to get any half decent venting in the heat.
The knee armour is tiny and doesn't secure well. hip armour is alright though.
The better solution in the heat is the Baja S4 and the the Enduro waterproof overshell.. Baja is great in even the hottest weather... the only problem is you have to cart the Enduro S4 overshell around somewhere.. it's fairly bulky. Actually fits in the Baja back pocket... but makes it look like you have a reverse pregnancy. If you don't mind it looking a bit odd, that's not a bad solution.
Haven't tried the Forecast Jacket which is more compact apparently and might have been a better solution. The Enduro jacket however is a great windstop, and the very robust.

How does the sizing run? I looked at the chart and I'm between a Lrg and XL with a little extra around the mid section, should I go with the smaller or larger size? Also looks like they are about to release a refresh version, does it meet the same high standards?

Klim pants fail if you are a taller and bigger guy. The Tall size (34" inseam) of Klim pants max out at a 36-38 waist. The jackets easily fit Tall bigger guys but the pants fail.

  • @mmaric12345
    @mmaric12345 ปีที่แล้ว

I am very disappointed with the klim latitude jacket. first reason is velcro. and especially the one under the chin. the collar does not close properly. and it keeps opening because of the small and weak velcro. second reason is that the sleeves are difficult to bend and are actually quite uncomfortable. ok, they are reinforced (goretex) but still... and now, the jacket is advertised as one jacket for all weather conditions. and that you don't need to constantly put on and take off jacket like the one with several layers... the jacket is too thin for even little colder days. so you should wear something underneath. And take it on and off as soon as it's warmer... and what you need to wear should be bought separately because nothing comes with the jacket. after all, this is an extremely expensive rain jacket that needs at least 2 layers underneath (depending on the temperature outside). too many advertisements and too high price for the product. unfortunately I will return mine.
I definitely agree that jackets with layers are better. 😊😊
