So the role of full backs is to defend and give assistance in attacking, as they cover the area in wings inorder to cross the ball or to exploit the spaces in wings as the forward wingers drag the the defence inwards the D area (big D infornt of goal post).. or they(fullbacks , come inside the D box as midfielders and the forward wingers go out in wings to cross the ball, there are many ways how one (coach) can change the role of the players in wings and midfield, now days even center backs do rotation to give numerical support in opposition half for creating more chances for scoring...hope u understand now, watch few matchs of Liverpool and Manchester City, or prime Barcelona or real Madrid, u will see how they used the fullbacks and midfielders..
