- Big. Steady. A forward’s worst nightmare. A relentless devourer of minutes. A coach’s dream. Zdeno Chára was truly one of a kind. As of this recording, he remains the tallest player ever to lace up skates in the greatest hockey league in the world. His career is gilded with accolades: a Norris Trophy, a leadership award, and the ultimate prize-a Stanley Cup championship. And, truth be told, he could have earned even more.
Though he racked up an imposing number of penalty minutes,I believe he was the active leader at the time of his retirement, make no mistake-Chára was no dirty player. As you’ll see here, he was the epitome of a dominating, all-around defenseman. Known for his physical strength, a blistering slap shot, and an unyielding, aggressive style of play, Chára commanded the ice in a way few others ever have. At times it seemed like the big fella didn’t understand just how big he really was and the kind of devastation he could cause. But above all, Chára was a true leader-the heart of the locker room and a mentor to countless teammates. A force of nature, a marvel of the game, he was-and always will be-Big Z. Zdeno Chára, the tallest titan to ever grace the NHL. #zdenochara #chara #nhl #bostonbruins #bruins #hockey #slovakia
Let's hear it boys!! Whats your favourite Big Z memory!👀🎯 Also sorry for the weird cut at 21:41, had to cut out a part of the B's celebration due to copyright, hopefully that'll be the only change made!

Just had to point out something that was completely glossed over in your video regarding the Max Pacioretty hit. Perhaps it was before your time but this hit was a HUGE deal at the time. The Montreal POLICE questioned Chara after the game for over an hour and it was a real possibility they weren’t going to let him leave Montreal that night…cuz just in case you didn’t know, Montreal loves their players and many fans and media people there seriously wanted him charged for aggravated assault! This hit also changed the way the stanchions are built and this is now standardized league wide. Pacioretty suffered a concussion and fractured vertebrae from the hit and missed the rest of the season and playoffs. Watching the video today and objectively speaking, Chara drove Pacioretty into the stanchion with a clear pushing motion leaving him prone with nowhere to go at near full speed. Some might call that attempted murder, let alone assault.
When Julien used him as net-front presence on PP. :)
that special night in Vancouver, lifting the cup.
Severely underrated and under viewed channel right here. Incredible as always friend.
Z might have played hockey, but he was in the clock cleaning business man, what a machine
Chara evolved from a sideshow to a superstar.
One of your best videos. I started watching hockey in 2011 the year Big Z and the Bruins won the Stanley Cup. So he will always be one of the OG hockey players in my own personal hockey watching journey in a country that doesn't really play this great sport
Keep up the good work
As a lifelong FLYERS fan...Big Z was hated with a passion. But as a hockey fan...Big Z was an absolute beast of a player...if he wore orange and black he would be one of my favorite players to ever lace them up.
As they say...I can respect his greatness and his dominance.
First ballot HOFer.
Great video once again my friend...
I have one little bone to pick with your take on the Max Patches hit...your complete confidence in that is was 100% clean is something I cannot agree with...do I think Chara wanted to hurt Patches...no I do not...but Chara knew that area of the rink...and he didn't ride him into a normal hockey hit...he pushed him at a very precise time into the area where something bad could happen...and it was interference bye definition...I also think it was intentional.
But opinions vary probably 50/50.
great channel man keep up the great work
Hey my guy. Nobody makes vids like you. GOAT of the player documentaries.
They laughed at him at Sparta Prague, told him go play basketball, he persisted and luckily, agent Henyš knew he was gonna get him drafted to the NHL just on that record-setting size alone. The rest is history. One of the hardest working athletes ever, the guy climbed the Kilimanjaro or cycled the whole Tour de France route as a part of his summer regimen. Once I asked Aleš Kotalík, a winger with a few productive seasons in Buffalo, who was the toughest D to play against, expecting to hear Lidstrom or Stevens, he didnt hesitate for a second to name Big Z, strong as a bear with a wingspan like a condor. My only gripe is he didnt choose to represent the Czech squad instead of the Slovaks. :)
You’re videos are great bro !
i remember as a kid playing my brothers gameboy nhl 98 i believe and big Z was the first player i got to know in hockey. He was fun to play with, he had the hammer next to his name. When i got older and started to watch hockey i see why he had the hammer. I also remember Hossa, he had skates next to his name.
Woooooo and it clocks in at 33 minutes and 33 seconds you dawg !!
If I could like this video 100 times I would. Great video as always, and great channel. I think a Shawn Thornton video would be cool
Random fun fact, Chara's first goal after returning to the Islanders set the record for longest time between goals for a player with a single franchise 😂
The way chara was able to get better with age will always amaze me
Dudes iconic
It is worth mentioning that Chara still holds the record for most hits in a single game. Didnt hear that mentioned in this 30+ min video.
always threw his name out there when discussing the heavy weight champ of the NHL. he also had some epic fights with scott parker in the minors. dude was tough.
I'll never forget when he son'd Cindy
LFG
Its time for another Hawk video!! Dirk Graham has a story worth telling....Tony Amonte was the most consistent goal scorer of the late nineties.....The Eagle......
I live in Calgary ,where there is not much coverage of the East. Had the idea ,direct result of western media , that he was more freAk and SidEshow then Norris and Cup winner.
Great look at a great player thanks
Thought he was gonna send the cup into space.
Alexander Karmanov is 16 yo, 211 cm and is eligible for NHL draft 2026.
There is 7 ft youth player for WB Knights in NEPA.
Back when the battle for Ontario was a thing 😂😂😂💀
if only he and the bruins had won game 7 of the 2019 final so it could be 2 cups for big Z!
Hell yeah
Why did I never know he played for the sens
Where was he for the 100 anniversary of the Bruins few weeks ago?
He not fight big boys of his era like Laraque, Worrell or Brashear enough times. One can say he ducked them.
I can't help but feel big Z meant to put patches into the stanchion, albeit he did not mean to run him face first into it.
The hit was intentional, but the outcome was accidental.
he was just trying to finish his check and there wasn't much wiggle room for either player so it was a good hit but just a bad outcome as u said

Habs fans would like to know your location.
This comment is here to show support 😅
Remember the chose Wade Redden over Chara??
Pacio Might have something to say about the fact that Chara isnt dirty
he definitely didn't intend on that cmon now
@@johnnybsmitty shooting someone by accident is still a manslaughter🤣
@@askabourgo it was an unfortunate scene but it was by the corner of the boards and there wasn't much he could do to prevent it and it wasn't meant to be that way, it's hockey where sometimes freak accidents happen. Be glad it didn't mess up his career
I really dont mind. I mostly hated Pac with the Habs and i do have a lot of respect for my enemies like Chara and that Rat63. But, while worst then intented, Chara wanted to punish Pac all game and he knew the glass was coming. Dont lie to youselves, that doesnt makes Chara less worthy of what he is. A beast of a legend
@@askabourgo can i ask why you hated pac in montreal?
Chara was definitely dirty lol
