Banner bearer is supposed to stop ranged units from advancing when you don’t want them to like keeping archers in trees without them yeeting themselves off. And for the complete opposite use flag bearer which charges units into battle at tremendous speeds
THE BANNER BARER STOPS ALL UNITS FROM MOVING GOOD FOR KEEPING YOUR ARCHERS IN PLACE AND THE ATTAK BANNER INCRESES THE SPEED OF UNITS,SO THEY CAN CHARGE.
If the peasant was a ranged unit that would be a good time to use the banner bearer

In other games thare are commands to hold position or attack so the banner bearer and the flag bearer are the attack and hold position units

Banner and flag bearers give offensive and defensive tactics to all units in the proximity,banners making units hold their ground and the flag doing speed and damage boost!
