I think a lot of people didn't like the Abby arc because the game humanized a character who people wanted to hate. I loved it. The storytelling in the last of us part two is some of the greatest piece of storytelling I have seen in any artistic medium.
I just think they did a terrible job with the pacing. Like they should’ve told the story in chronological order and have us play as Abby since the beginning instead of after you know what. Because at one point you basically just restart the game with Abby and people already hated her or were already fed up with her.
@devin6079 that was the challenge the devs gave the players. Can you learn to understand and accept after hating her? For some people it really didn't work. For the people it worked for, it *worked*

I was so mad at abby the first time too, until I replayed the game LOTS of times and understood why everyone did what they did. this game is truly a masterpiece.

Not even just the voice actor. All 3 women who make up Abby- voice actor, face model, and body model- were all harrassed and threatened. Heck, you can even throw in the creators of the character, Druckmann and Halley Gross. And now Dever joins that list. Tells you all you need to know about how vile the hate community for Pt 2 is.
It has already been alluded to, that they are not only going for at least a season 2 + a season 3 based on the 2nd game, but also that the structure and chronology is going to make season 2 different from the game, while the story itself will be much the same. In any case, the 2nd game turned very dark as it progressed, and was more about hate and revenge. In season 1 they made Joel look more vulnerable than in the game, and I noticed that he is also sheading tears at the end of this teaser, not to forget the therapist at the very start, that has been added, so I also suspect season 2 to be going in kind of the same direction in some places, unlike in the game.
I am so excited to see how they have chosen to adapt the story. They know what to keep and they're not afraid to make changes that enhance the story. I know they were referring to "lost levels" and scenes that did not make it into the game already at the end of last season. So, I am just so eager to see how they've envisioned this for television. :) Hoping we get deeper insight to more of the characters. Many of us are already hurting, but I feel for the ones who have no idea... Lol. May we all Endure & Survive.
I tried my very best to warn those who don't know what is coming but I don't think anything can prepare them for that. I am so intrigued into how the story will play out too!
To be honest this teaser looks very promising coming from someone who finished Part 2 like 4 times, for me both Part 1 and 2 is masterpiece games. Honestly I hated Abby guts but the more I played with her the more I got attached to her character.

It'll be interesting to see how they will structure the episodes. For sure, it won't be a 1:1 recreation of the game's timeline. And if the rumors of two season-spanning adaption of the second game is true, I see the 'inciting incident' happening as a cliffhanger for season two.
I have hope that with how well season one was able to trample over the hate/trolls that season two will be able to have this story play out without the message being lost on the audience.
Yea, what happened did happen. We know what happened. But you have to look at Abby’s point of view and her story. Out of hate and rage, she did what anybody would have done or thought about doing. That’s why I loved the game and you played both sides. By the end of it, I was happy for Abby. I didn’t want anything to happen to Ellie or Abby.
I don't care what nobody says, I love Abby's character. It's not like she did all of that for no reason, most of us just grew an emotional connection to Ellie and Joel, and Joel is not by any means a good person per say but he has a good heart (in certain cases). Abby vs Ellie............I can't wait.
I like how near the end of this trailer, they make it super intense, then calm us with a nice guitar playing at the end. SPOILER This isn't how the game leaves you, the game leaves you with anxiety and emptiness, and lots of questioning "that's it.." Lets go can't wait to go through all that again.
The trailer looks really good and the scenes look like they are straight from the game. I played this game multiple times over the years, but i just don't like the story. I get what they were trying to do, but i just don't appreciate breaking my favorite video game characters (mentality and physically) to tell it, then have a new character walk in and basically be like "i own the show now" and pretty much say the first game doesn't matter anymore. I wanted to like it soo badly but i can't. I know alot more people are excited about season 2 then i am and i don't want to be a jerk and ruin it for people. If you like the 2nd game or if your haven't played it, i think you'll like season 2, and if you dont like the 2nd game, i dont think much will be different to make it more likeable. Thats about all i can say because NO SPOILERS.
@analyticalplum I will say this much about the trailer. It's definitely looking like it is staying true to the story and is following the main story beats very closely. The sets looks great, the actors all like look their video game counterparts, and is sticking true to the source material. So for that, I definitely respect that and am glad that video game movies and shows don't have to shy away from the source material.
At the end of the day we all gotta remember. Even though we love these characters theirs no lying that they have done some very very bad things. Granted it’s a world where horrible things happen. But that’s the point. Horrible things are gonna happen to those who deserve it. Spoilers for last of us 2: Joel is a character who is not a hero and not a good guy. He is selfish and dooms the entire world. He is killed for his selfish acts. But we understand where he was coming from because we saw his story. If we just saw Abby’s perspective then we would hate Joel. Ellie is just in the mix of this mess and of course she is going to act and kill for her father figure. I love these games and the characters. Naughty dog are genius’s and I applaud them for having the balls to do something like that. Everyone has their opinions and I respect it. I’m hyped for this season

And in the game, Joel is unapologetic about his actions throughout his years post-outbreak. Will be interesting to see if he accepts more of what he done in the show, so that when THAT scene comes, we might look at it in a different way.
