The song doesn't have much to the young. As we get older we fully understand it's meant. The 4 seasons to our life. Spring, Summer, Fall, and the darkness of Winter.

I watched this show since my childhood and now I'm an old man. I'm pretty sure everyone that played on the show is gone now. Thank God we have TH-cam and TV stations that keep these classic shows going. We get a glimpse into the past and realize how good life use to be. It takes our mind off of how the world is today. It gives us time to reflect on memories of the past and our friends and family who are no longer with us. When I was a child my grandfather and I watched this show everyday at 5pm, we always had supper early so we wouldn't miss it.

Just a great scene. The comic components don’t detract from the authentic delivery of a beautiful song, and it’s completely free of unnecessary embellishments. The repeated shots of Andy’s face, and when he eventually stops to just take it in, are as good as TV has ever been.

Andy's face in this clip makes me well up with emotion. To me the look on his face freezes Charlene's youth and innocence and her kind heart in a second of time. I'm not saying it right how I feel. This is one of those moments where everything lines up. The line "we need a fire against the cold" is haunting. The banjo her worn swearer with the holes Andy's face when he stops playing to watch her, it all comes together. This is by far my favorite scene out of all the seasons of the show. That and the old fashioned wringer washing machine on their back porch. It's only shown one time in all the years on tv. Im75 so I get sappy seeing and hearing some things.

I still watch this show . It doesn't matter how many times I see the same things and laugh . Those to me were good times . Things were left to the imagination, life and people were respected and respectful towards eachother. People honored the American flag. They went to church. I don't know what is going to be in this country at the rate we are going now . Its really sad that things have changed so much. What do our grandchildren have to look forward to???

The same was said in the '60s. Vietnam War, civil rights protests, campus riots drug culture out of control and as far as going to church, ask the people who sent their children only to be molested by priests. You have a selective memory, but if that makes you feel better so be it.

I would like to own every season of Gunsmoke & Andy Griffith show!! Best ever, with the best talent I've EVER seen.
The Andy Griffith show represents to me and I'm certain Andy Griffith tried to portray a much simpler life, and that it doesn't have to be chaotic like today, and to TRUST & TREAT people more in a family way, instead of just a good neighborly way.
It shows that it doesn't have to be that serious. That we as a society can stop all the drama, wars, racial division, and just being played off against each other.
It's what we all really want, and that's why we all come here,FACTS!!

I always enjoyed the Darling family coming down from the mountain to Mayberry for a visit and singing their mountain folk songs on the Andy Griffith Show. I never watched it on prime time on TV when I was a kid in the 60's due to the fact no cable TV in our home, only a TV antenna on the roof. But somehow someway the CBS station, channel 2 from Los Angeles, CA. did come in during mid mornings airing the reruns B & W episodes of the Andy Griffith Show in the mid 60's as well as I Love Lucy (later The Lucy Show), The Beverly Hillbillies, The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Real McCoy's. Mountain Folk music was influenced from folk songs and music from England, Ireland and Scotland by the settlers from those countries.

I remember hearing this that night. I think I was about 8 or 9 years old and I never forgot it. Beautiful lyrics and singing.

Any episode with The Darlings was guaranteed to be worth rushing home for. I still try to catch them. I especially live the episode, where we first meet them.

When Andy stopped playing and looking at Charlene he's like maybe I need to rethink this Charlene situation.

It's been said by another that the reason that Andy stop and her father started crying was both remembering their late wives.
    A beautiful song. 🥲
