    Would be very interesting if you could get one or more of the various types of fake bars, like low purity and/or a core of a different metal like has been seen, and show how they react to the tests.

    Good video! As a note though, the Sigma Verifier doesn't actually measure "density", which would be specific gravity. It is an eddy current tester which measures an approximation of volume resistivity.

    I'm always willing to pay a slightly higher premium for bullion with security features because it increases liquidity on the secondary market.
    I'm hoping the United States Mint upgrades the 2021 American Silver Eagles with better security features, similar to RCM's Canadian Silver Maples.

      19.32 gold (Au)
      19.25 tungsten (W)

    Great video. Buy a lot of bullion for myself and so far had two fakes both silver bars and both were lead shelled with a silver jacket. Unfortunately I don’t have special equipment however you could just ‘tell’ there was something not right so I took a drill to them which quickly showed the jacket. Both bars where from eBay in the UK.

    • @SWPCayman
      @SWPCayman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for sharing Matthew. We definitely suggest that people proceed with caution when buying from Ebay or Alibaba.

    • @thehrschannel4784

      I’ve learnt my lesson the hard way. Just buy direct from the Royal Mint now.

    • @thehrschannel4784
      @thehrschannel4784 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The-Toy-Guy unfortunately bars in the UK are also taxed where as British minted coins are not subject to any sales tax or capital gains tax. Sovereigns and Britannia’s are still classed as legal tendar ie you can go to a shop and spend it and hence for this reason the above stated means that most bullion collectors in the UK stick to British minted coins.

    • @thehrschannel4784
      @thehrschannel4784 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The-Toy-Guy it’s food for thought. I’ve bought monetary metals for decades since about 1992 I think, and having many reputable dealers I’ve never had a problem other than eBay.
      Now I just buy direct from the Royal Mint and that way there is no messing. You are 100% right though if I saw silver I’d buy it especially if it was that cheap, however again in the UK it has to be hallmarked by law for precious metals so basically everyone knows what it is. I doubt you would find a £1 ladle that could be sold for £160 melted but you never know, personally I’ve not seen one, but in that instance I would certainly buy it and have it melted.
      There are ways to buy precious here for spot if not cheaper than, but not sure I’d like to give my secrets away here lol since everyone would probable do it here in the UK and I wouldn’t get my cheaper silver lol...
      For me I buy precious metals a. For my children to benefit in the future but also b. As a hedge against inflation. I bought several 1oz Britannia’s around £275 an ounce in the 90’s and now there £1250 there is certainly talk of gold hitting £3000 an ounce in our lifetime so even if I pay spot I’m still happy, the spot price plotted on a graph over decades has a very clear trajectory and that is firmly up!!!

    • @thehrschannel4784
      @thehrschannel4784 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The-Toy-Guy I do like queens beast series very nice coins, and I have done well with them in the past. For stacking I buy 1oz Silver Britannia and for gold the Sovereign only because historically when I have rebalanced for some reason the sovereign sells better than the gold Britannia..... I don’t know why but for me they just seem to seem at a slightly better premium for their gold content. And then I try and buy a few of all the designs that come out mainly for my interest rather than the metal content but like I say in the past I’ve sold some of these coins for way more than there silver content. It’s about time I came back to Australia I have family in Perth and I loved the mint!!! You guys in Australia and in the US too have got the right idea of precious metals but here in the UK it’s a very over poked asset.

    I am really surprised that you do not use a spectrometer. Given the value that comes through your vault, would it not be safer to know exactly what is in the coin/bar, etc?

    • @SWPCayman
      @SWPCayman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jose, great question. Spectrometers have limitations as well, they cannot be used effectively for thicker bars such as kilo gold and 100 oz silver bars, hence why we prefer the GVS machine (the last machine in the video) which can more effectively test larger bars. I'm not saying a spectrometer isn't a valuable tool to have; we'd certainly have one if we were buying scrap metal on a regular basis.

      I weighed several of my 1 ounce silver maple leafs and they came in at one troy ounce, 1.003 or 1.005 Troy ounce. They are legit because I brought my silver maple leafs to an authorized Canadian Mint dealer to have them tested. He had a DNA machine to check the engraved maple leaf's security feature. All ok. So as long as the weight is just slightly more, you are safe and ok. And as the video mentioned, the coins (whether silver or gold) will never be under weight.

    Great information, I get a lot out of your videos, a little advise if I may, you should add some links to these products and make that extra money.... probably get some free tools from the companies for the promotion.

    In the UK, any coin which has a value stamped on it with Queens head is classed as money and the penalties for faking them are 10 years for counterfeiting, 10 years for passing to another person, and 10 years for accepting a counterfeit ( so don't be a mug and tell the Police you have all these fakes you accepted...) - told this first day when working at a Bingo club in the 90's - the emphasis to us was the penalties on accepting it (to stop insider corruption). All UK bullion coins have a price and the Queens head.

    I use a digital scale. And the scratch and acid test. And a strong magnet. Cuz I heard that it slowly glides down silver. Can you confirm that the magnet test is true?

      Chaotic twig, you can also look for the cct slide on TH-cam. It's made by a British you tuber named cct curtain twitcher. It is sold here in U.S by a you tuber named mr vegita.The scale is made with wood and the magnets are covered with a carpet like cloth.

    I recently purchased a 1 oz gold Libertad and when I put it on my sigma instrument it was just outside the bars. I called the company that I purchased it from and they said that Libertads are known for doing that. Do you have any experience with the Libertads? I see that you have a sigma analytics instrument like the one I just bought. I ran all my coins through and the Libertad was the only one that was off.

    • @SWPCayman
      @SWPCayman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pudenda, I don't recall having that experience with Libertads, however we have a similar experience with 1 oz gold bars (OPM and Elemetal brands). Some bars tested outside the tolerance, but after further testing, we concluded they were real. So long story short, it can happen. That's we employ several tests, including the magnetism test which is fairly conclusive.

    Couldn’t you use a caliper or micrometers and figure out the volume vs. the weight. I’d think if the density per cm3 was wrong it’d be a dead ringer for a fake

    • @oahuhawaii2141
      @oahuhawaii2141 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's more accurate to measure volume with a graduated cylinder and water. But coins with known dimensions (diameter and thickness) can be checked with calipers quickly.
      These density values are for pure Au and W, and in grams per cubic centimeter (g/cm^3):
      19.32 gold (Au)
      19.25 tungsten (W)
      You can use the PMV Pro to check your bullion gold coins. He used an earlier model in this video.

    Thank you for introducing the tips.
    But I have to say. You can easily buy gold bars from each Chinese bank. So they often exhibit gold bar models in the hall to show the size of different products.
    It's impossible to provide real gold bars of different sizes in all the banks right? China has 230,000 bank branches. If each branch put a 1000g+100g+10g gold bar as an example. It costs over 250 tons of gold.
    That's the reason why some Chinese factories have the business of making gold bar models.
    A knife can cut the beef. It can also kill people. It only depends on who is using that.
    Btw, the gold bar models sometimes are also used to decorate the shrines or modify Fengshui. You can easily tell the difference between a model or a real gold bar if you put it on your hand.

    What are your thoughts on buying gold hallmarked jewellery as an investment?
    You can see the Karat content, you can weigh it & can thus work out the actual gold content & check the daily mint spot price to at least know its gold content value.
    That’s all I pay, daily spot & I get a few pieces a week, mostly from desperate souls who need cash in a hurry.
    Often I get the receipts from the Jeweller it was purchased from, & it’s usually 3 times what I pay for it.
    The fact it’s manufactured into a piece that can be worn means you always have melt value, but if your prepared to wait & advertise it as jewellery, often I’ll get double what I pay for it, which is still only 2/3rds what retail jewellers charge, so the buyer gets a saving & I get a healthy profit.
    I can buy cast & minted bars from the mint, at the same daily spot price, but unlike Jewellery there’s no potential upside like there is with jewellery when selling.
    I’m surprised you don’t use an XRF gun to test your gold?
