I won't give it away, but I knew the scuba diver by the easy way he opened the mask of his diving helmet while they were being introduced.

Kudos to the 3 men in those wetsuits on dry land. If you have ever been in one of those, you would know they get extremely hot inside. With television lights on them, you can see the sweat pouring off. Thanks for the video.

Yes, because they were extremely uncomfortable back then.

Correct name is Thelma Holland (1910-1995), Oscar Wilde's daughter-in-law.

If those scuba diver head coverings were so easy to take off (8:12), why in the world did they force the contestants to wear them through the entire interview session? They clearly added considerably to the discomfort caused by the suits and also made it difficult for the contestants to hear the panelists' questions!

Those guys must have been suffering mightily. It is really hot in a wetsuit when you aren't in the water. I bet the studio lights made it all the worse.

When Bud is reading their affidavit, you can see the sweat dripping off them.

At 9:44, Bud Collier says: "Let me give you some facts about Mrs. Holland, if I may" and then goes on to read a little biography about her, which was written in the third person. I'm pretty sure this is the first time that the facts about the represented contestant were presented that way, rather than in the form of an affidavit, written in the first person and signed by the contestant himself/herself. I wonder why they did it this way for Selma Holland. Could it be that she just never had the time to write and sign her own affidavit before the show, or did she not want to write about herself for some reason?

that was very strange. maybe she wasn't allowed to make affidavits about the royal family.

When Eminem wrote his song "The Real Slim Shady" in 2000, I had no idea that the phrase "Will the real**** please stand up?" came from TTTT.

Johan Bengtsson So interesting how different people have different cultural reference points! I have never heard of the song you mentioned, but "Will the real** please stand up?" as it was used on TTTT has been a part of my own personal store of catchphrases for as long as I can remember, because I watched TTTT even as a small child.

SaveThe TPC American TV- sitcoms and comedy movies are full of references to old american Culture and other TV series. It can be difficult for us non-americans to understand these references especially when they are meant as a joke. In the 90's I watched "The Nanny" with Fran Drescher and if you were not familiar to "Bewitched" or "Gilligan's Island" all these references made no sense. I remember once when I went to the cinema (can't remember what I saw but it was a comedy) and the hero made a reference to some old TV-series and I was the only one who laughed simply because I understood the reference and all the other did not.

You're not missing anything not having heard it. My advice would be to skip. I've heard the song, unfortunately, and never made the connection.

I think Ralph Bellamy might have been taking a shot at Ms. Holland when he asked the question about the news article where she’d criticized American women’s (excessive) fashion accessories. He put her right on front street. Polly Bergen also got her when Ms. Holland said American women would be better off without heating and a/c in the home and Polly replied, “That wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that England doesn’t have those things?” Haha, go Polly.

The camera angle on Bud @ 1:30 is different (closer and more flattering) than I'm used to seeing. I wonder why they rarely used it in other episodes...?

@@janeiwasduncan8463 You are correct, Janei. All 4 panelists and Bud Collyer have passed. Polly Bergen (2014), Ralph Bellamy (1991), Kitty Carlisle (2007), Hy Gardner (1989) and Bud Collyer (1969). Bud was only 61 when he died that year in Greenwich, CT.

I just didn't think the diver was one or two because they gave such poor definitions of rapture. Polly was on the right track, it is hallucinations at depths, and neither really said that.

I hope the Queen's make-up consultant isn't #1. She seems rather flighty and put on. She seems to mock American women at every term. Now I see why they call the English snobs... if she is English.

I cannot imagine ANYONE looking at any of those women and thinking they were beauty consultants. They are fine women, I’m sure, but users of beauty anything? I think not!
