In a show about war, in which you're ostensibly trying to show the audience the horrors and sacrifice inherent to war, making a character that can avoid killing defeats the purpose. The whole POINT is that both sides have to kill. If you're gonna fight in a war, there's no avoiding it. Kira not needing to kill celebrates his naive idealism, which isn't possible in war, without forcing him to confront or change it

@JJarolsavv The 00 movie has to keep animation similer to the 00 series, I would say that the movie's animation quality will resemble the new scenes added into the 00 special editions, when played undisturbed on DVD and Blu-Ray rather than a camra rip played on the computer.

Also the SEED movie been in production hell because the main writer has been ill but she recently got better, the status of the movie is still unknown but it didn't mean that the 00 movie was first priority, it just meant that the staff behind 00 planned a movie from the get go. I agree that overall 00 was better than SEED

@Akatsukihi Not to many spoilers for Unicorn please, but UC realism was destroyed for me when Tomino decided to through a bio-senser that amplified people's will and was able to amplify dead people's souls or something, whatever Emma said in the last episode of Zeta. To me throughing that in at the last second was a little cheap, and Tomino didn't bother to go further with it in ZZ he just had Judau use it at the ast 15 minutes. The psycoframe was a lot clearer by the end of CCA than the

@ronnor001 compared to alot of anime these days, its pretty damn serious. there is no comic relief, no fanservice, no awkward main character that the average otaku could relate to, no strange dialogue or jokes. Unicorn is aimed at a much older, more mature audience that has been watching gundam since the begining, that audience has no interest in high school adventures or TEH DRAMA between emotionally unstable teenagers.
@hajisaito It's not just the beamspam, it's the inherent idealism to a lot of Kira's combat tactics - and, more importantly, that he's successful with that idealism - that bother me. I mean, a lot of SEED bothers me, but as far as combat tactics go, Kira is able to take down hordes of enemies...without killing a SINGLE enemy pilot. That's ridiculous, and defeats the purpose of having a serious show about war. War kills all, pivotal people, grunt pilots, and civilians alike.
@leo11lim Sentinel puts more emphasis on older characters, the youngest pilot is 22, everyone else is in their 30's and 40's. its a pretty dramatic shift from most series where the 16 year old punk kid walks all over veterans. though if you want to be anal about it the S Gundam has a female AI named ALICE, who becomes an amazing pilot by the end of the book. better than most ace pilots out there, even better than most newtypes.
@MrLunitunz I'll agree the first half was good. I really liked it. And you are also right that it had many(not all though) of things I said it lacked. But I'm talking about the series as a whole. Much like what Destiny did to SEED, the second season of 00 ruined the whole series. It wasn't just awful, it was ridiculous. Although to be fair I think of 00 as one series and SEED and Dest. to be separate, so perhaps if I looked at 00 that way it wouldn't be as bad. But the 2nd half was still awful.

@MrLunitunz Tomino is kind of hit and miss when it comes to females. hes had really good ones (Emma, Cecily), bad ones (Four, Annamarie), and downright wackjobs (Reccoa, Katejina). Sentinel avoids the female archetypes that many mecha stories tend to use, such as the "love interest", "fanservice" or "bridge bunny" characters. Masaya Takahashi made a great deal of effort to portray the EFSF and New Desides as realistic, professional military groups with experienced pilots rather than mooks.
