Last time I clicked on a video this early, Steiner was still organizing his counterattack.
Is he here yet? A lend lease British Valentine tank is firing 2pdr AP at my bunker and it's not looking good tbh.
NAH! James Coburn was 30+ years to late/Old! 😛
Nein? nein?
Steiner's attack will happen any day now. Probably within the hour. And the Soviet encirclement will be shattered.
Now I know that some foolish doubters will say that Steiner and all of his men will be over a hundred years old.
True.
But as made clear in castle wolfenstein, nazi ZOMBIES are a thing.
Steiner and his army are not just nazis, they are ZOMBIE nazis. So age for them is just a number.

3:15 "Disposable"
Cyanide: "Sounds about right."
I was wondering if i'd find this comment.
Womble references never get old :D
The Panzerfaust was not only disposable but it was also re-loadable. I think 10 warheads were shipped with 6 tubes typically. The Panzerfaust was a single man weapon and it was to cumbersome to reload in battle but the left over tubes could be collected and reloaded after battle.
Wether you fist or schreck your panzer, your panzer will feel violated :(
Stop Panzer abuse :(
I did not expect to learn anything new but.. "There was a winter and summer ammunition" - I never heard of this, thank you!
Germany also supplied special hot weather ammunition to North Africa for their AT guns and such.
Propellant burns more aggressively when hot, so to maintain the same performance and prevent damaging the gun, hot weather ammo had a little less propellant
I learnt many things, not nearly as smart
Yes, I have a winter ammo Panzerschreck Rakete ammo box. It has the black circle on it and that means it is winter ammo. Also the "sticker" inside the lid confirms this. And I have a Packkiste Nr12 that was used as a Zünder für Panzerschreck 8,8mm. And a shield and the trigger assembly. There was also a shorter version of the Panzerschreck: the RPzB 54/1
At 2:03 you call this a “non-kinetic penetration”, but it absolutely is, since as you mentioned it isn’t thermal. It’s the kinetic energy of the rocket that doesn’t matter.
Yeah, my error, it should be non kinetic ammo.
Since we're being pedantic, I feel the urge to point out that the velocity of the rocket does matter - it just comprises quite a small portion of the overall velocity of the penetrator.
As a Gates of Hell player, I'm a little disappointed that I can't dig proper trenches like that.
im disappointed because there is no 4k UI
Agreed. It’s honestly the thing I love about MoW2 and see as an improvement. Kinda wish Gates of Hell could find a way to incorporate it since (I believe) they use the same engine version.

I like that you used the game to show what you are explaining, this is a good visual aid and a good promotion at the same time!
Fairly nice way to mix the advertisement with the content, with the "real exemple of a panzershrek position" I'd say.

The Men of War devs have been remaking their game for over dozen years now with little to no changes to the engine.
Better game, though a lot more difficult to master is Graviteam Tactics. Very high fidelity tactical combat.
Just play Gates of Hell. Improved engine with better graphics.
@@aztkshorty9138just play company of heroes 3, gates of hell is utterly out of date tbh, poor graphics, blocky ‘unplayable’ camera and so on… I was sadly not impressed
@@pascalbourelier3463 CoH3 is fked... better CoH2, also both series are not comparable, CoH is more Streamlined than MoW/GoH
@@pascalbourelier3463 The camera is fine, and the graphics are fine too? Gates of hell is a recent game that came out in 2021. I think you may be mistaking Men of War and Gates of Hell as the same game or had your graphics on low. I play both COH and GOH and when I want a hardcore gritty, logistically challenged losing dozens if not hundreds of men to capture a single position from an enemy player I play GOH. When I want an Arcady, more competitive, aggressive and less micro intensive I play COH. Both games have their own qualities. But I specifically mentioned the alternatives to MOW2 because it is a extremely watered down version of MOWAS2 and a blatant attempt to clone the more Arcady and far less complex and lower stakes of COH in a very bland and bad way. It’s trying to take from both sides and ends up not fitting anywhere comfortable. So yeah, getting men of war 2 is the worst of both worlds.
Wow, i thought Panzerschrecks were widespread regular infantry weapons like the panzerfausts. I really learned some new here, thank you.
Deep down in places you don't talk about at partys, you want the next video from MHV, you need the next video from MHV! We use words like Hetzer, StuG, Panzerschreck! I suggest that you leave a like or a comment! Either way, I dont give a damn!

Shreck is love, Shreck is life
I think you missed the requirement that the men have balls of stahl to sit there and let tanks roll up on them. I think I would be much less likely to soil myself in Men of War as opposed to actually being there. This does explain why Wehrmacht infantry divisions were able to resist armor division a lot more than we would think. You see this all the time on WW2 IRT or TIK History where the map shows an armored division crashing into an infantry division and you think the latter is going to be wiped out, yet ten seconds later the narrator is saying, "They lost 10 out of 12 tanks and retreated." Particularly later in the war when all the 88's were called back to Germany for anti-aircraft.
yes though not anymore. modern germany is a joke and woke
Besides the Panzer-Zerstörer-Bataillon, there are also some infantry K.St.N. with RPzB at company or platoon level. The Panzergrenadierkompanie K.St.N.1114c (gp) from 1.11.1943 lists a Panzer-Zerstörer-Trupp at company level with 4 RPzB as well as one for every squad in the first three platoons, so 13 launchers in total. I don't know whether this was actually used, since it's a very well equipped and heavy formation, but you can also find earlier Panzergrenadier/Schützen company TOEs with anti-tank rifles at company level.
It's certainly in place six months later. Most German infantry (and all PzGr) formations have been allocated RPzB 44 by then.
The reference to the old Quake ads caught me off guard. 😄
Great video as always old friend!
That was an integration that worked very well 👍
I recentiy attended a historical reenactment event and was able to hold a deactivated panzershrek. I was stunned at how heavy it was (even unloaded) compared to the US Bazooka. Quite a beast to move around in a combat situation imo.

3:04 Soviet womble!
Great video!
A nitpick though. All hollow charges are shaped charges, but not all shaped charges are hollow charges. Explosively Formed Penetrator (EFPs) are for instance shaped charges, but not hollow charges, using a metal plate instead of a hollow "tube".
Amazing
The little Soviet Womble hehehe
The jet is also not a liquid as it doesn't get hot enough to be a liquid.
needs big balls considering that you had just 150 m or range which would let the guy wait till he could be sure that the tank is for sure in range which would be rather 100 m than 150 m
And that is quite close assuming that infantery is not far away and you would have 1 shot only .
Artillery men are trained to survey ranges and have range cards to various features and target points prior to the ambush. I suspect something like this was going on rather than just a random guess at range from experience. The Germans did have man portable stereoscopic and coincidence range finders with I believe 70cm and 1m baselines. What would concern me was the accuracy of the machining of the weapon and the ability of this lightweight construction to maintain alignment. The 8.8 cm Raketenwerfer 43 which shared the same warhead and rocket motor (albeit with percussion instead of electrical primer and fired from a breeched weapon on a 140k carriage) was lavishly and precisely machined and could accurately hit a target at hundreds of meters. The Panzerschrek was a cheap weapon with simple iron sights. How would you make sure the sights were accurately boresighted and not knocked out of alignment? The Panzerschrek with a muzzle velocity of 140m/sec would have a projectile fall of of 4.9m at 140m, 2.45m at 100m, 1.2m at 70m and 0.6m at 50m.

What's the difference between the late version RPzB 54 and RPzB54/1?Only the length difference or other changes?
Ofenrohr I love it amazing!
Huh, I had no idea the Panzerfaust actually had greater penetration of the two. I always just assumed since the Panzerschreck was the heavier specialist weapon it would be more powerful.
I doubt this is entirely correct. Claims of Pannzerschrek penetration are all over the place in various allied and other documents. Some of the confusion comes from the fact the Germans generally measured penetration at 30 degrees from the vertical but most of it I'm sure is from the fact that both Panzerschrek and Panzerfaust penetration improved between mid 1943 (when both weapons were well in in service) to late 1944. Warhead development did not cease.
Was the Panzerschreck issued to normal infantry units (no matter if Infantry or Panzer/Panzergrenadier divisions) as well or were they all used for these specialized battalions?
You should also do a video/s about Bazooka and PIAT tactics. I’ve always been curious how they were actually used/held up against “superior heavily armored German tanks,” with their lower caliber “inferior allied AT weapon” status
The PIAT was highly effective against German tanks as was the M1 Bazooka. Remember that the heaviest flank armour (at 90-degree impact) was 8cm, well within the PIAT's capability and on the outer ring of the M1's.
@@Wien1938I'm mostly interested in how they were used considering the abysmal range. Only from ambush?
@@TzunSu Well, even a effective range of 100m is huge compared with handheld weapons. The video does demonstrate tactical usage well, given that a RPzB/PIAT/M1 can be hidden under cover even in the open.
The German weapons in the latter part of the war with improved warheads had a huge advantage in penetration which would come in handy when dealing with a T-34/85 or IS-2 front on. The Germans had rather heavier tanks to deal with.
Having said that the PIAT has a huge advantage over both the Bazooka and the Panzerschrek. It has a low launch signature. No smoke and almost no sound that could be heard above e engien and track noise. The Panzerschrek mad a great deal of smoke due to black powder propellant. The Bazooka less due to use of diglycol propellant (Germans had digycol but couldn't make enough) plus ofcourse PIAT used less proepplant and had much smaller projectiles (about 1/4 the size). However if you had to deal with a big tank like an IS-2 the German weapons were best.
Very much alike the newer Swedish pansarskott(like the Faust) and the grg(grenade rifle literally) which is reusable and has a loaded and a gunner
Generally re-loadable weapons are two man weapons operated at platoon level due to the complexity of the reload and the need to carry spare ammunition. So called disposable weapons are one man operation. The Panzerfaust was fully reloadable in the field. Yes it was disposable but it was also re-loadable. A typical crate contained 6 tubes and 10 warheads. The idea being that the tube could be dropped in combat but after the engagement (if the squad won) the tubes could be gathered and reloaded. The reload would take a few minutes. Really an awesome weapon. Half the 12 man squad could be armed with a panzerfaust each while the remainder deloused the tanks of infantry with the MG42, rifle grenades and the submachine gun or StG44 if you were lucky.
@@williamzk9083 huh didnt know it was reloadable but as it is quite different from things like the Swedish at4 which has the shell in a barrel I can see why it would be quite easy to make it reloadable but still disposable
Ofenrohr ist explizit die frühe Panzerschreck ohne das Schild! :) Grüße
Quelle? Bin mir relativ sicher, dass ich in Akten von 1945 auch Ofenrohr gelesen hab.
At one point you made a video for the children to fight a tiger on their way home from school.
I think this series will require an update.
Definitely stretching out my lunch break to watch this.
Very cool stuff!
Regarding the kinetic energy, my read is that given the speed of the actual shaped charge going off, the speed with which it hits the target is irrelevant for penetration. Gotta be honest, the massive back flame would make me get up & move my Schreck pretty quickly. Nice use of the sponsor too btw. Thanks Bernhard.
Pretty much. High Explosive Anti Tank munitions do all their damage via the metal jet moving several kilometers per second penetrating armor. It's why a shaped charge can be used for demolition.
HEAT ammo is easier to protect against than armor piercing solid ammunition however. Air gaps significantly reduce the effectiveness of a HEAT jet which is why vehicles often have air gaps in their armor, and add on protection that detonates the HEAT shell further away from the vehicle.
Of course, you can defeat standoff armor with tandem charges (two shaped charges, one to blast through the standoff armor to clear the way for the second, primary charge behind it), but then you also have Active Protection Systems which shoots down incoming projectiles and Explosive Reactive Armor which is very good at reducing HEAT jet effectiveness, and composite materials that disrupt the travel of a HEAT jet by altering it's pathway upon impact...it's one big arms race. Whereas the only realistic option to stop armor piercing ammo is thicker and stronger armor. But AP weapons are much less portable since you need heavy projectiles, and weapons that can withstand massive pressure to launch them at high speed.
I have two questions:
1.) Were the Panzerschreck (offical?) handed over to Panzer-Zerstörer-Bataillone only?"
2.) If single weapons should be used ad hoc against breakthroughs of tanks, I guess in reality they were very often this way. Am I Right? (The Wehrmacht was facing an enemy tank superiority constantly in the last stages of the war and breakthroughs were acommon problem.)
3:10 that's 300 imperial, or 1000 metric shots.

Take a block of C4. Using a spoon dig out a cylinder of C4 from the middle. The cylinder is a shaped charge, you can mold it in any shape as required. The remainder of the block of C4 is a hollow charge. Repeat this action with Semtex. By placing the cylinder of C4 into the block of Semtex you create one HEAT charge. Placing the Semtex cylinder into the C4 block you create another HEAT charge.
What are you smoking? C4 is literally made out of semtex. How on earth are you making ''shaped charges'' by removing bits of plastic explosive, and replacing it with the very same plastic explosive?

Panzerschreck tactics are easy.
1) You order 2 Panzergrenadier squads, with 2 panzerschrecks each.
2) Intantly vaporise any enemy vehicle you stumble upon.
3) Since as Germany you can't afford fuel for Panzers anyway, and defence through attack is the only way, these 2 squads are all the spearhead you need.
