    You cannot NOT like what you're seeing in Naomi's game these days. She's solved many of her perennial problems--or at least HALF of her most perennial problem which is her approach shot. she still seems unsure how to attack the net BUT she's grown very confident short-volleying back when she is attacked at the net. In fact everytime she runs in to chase down a volley you could almost chalk it down as a point even before she gets there. She NEVER bothers to return an opponent's volley, she simply puts the ball out of play on an impossible acute angle off the net on her return swing it drives all her opponents crazy. She did NOT copy that from anyone--that is pure signature Naomi Osaka anti-voley defense, the tennis community owes it to her to name that move after her. Call it the "Osaka volley killer".

    What a match I mean Osaka was on fire here. She needs to keep her dad as her coach, they are undefeated. Kvitova was incredible too. Not as good as their AO final but still a great match

    You didn't win today Kvitova but you won the war. The greatest fighter tennis has seen. Arguably playing better the last 2 seasons then when winning Grand Slams. She's fitter, more variety, pure power, improved foot speed but most of all she's Petra. Class when she wins like when she loses.

    Usually matches like this where Osaka is down initially in the sets concerns me a whole lot but since her win in Osaka, I've become less concerned. Something changed about her mentality. Usually she would get frustrated when nothing is going right and she's behind by games or sets. But lately she's become much more patient and calm. Always figuring out a way for the most part.
    Hopefully, she together with Barty and Andreescu provide the consistency that the WTA is missing.

      it's actually horrible. You can't pick the ball easily when you play on a brighter surface like that. If tennis players had a way, they wouldn't mind the courts painted black. Ask anyone that plays. That pink is a horrible color. Dont be fooled. It might look ok for TV for you and me, but for players it's horrible

    Naomi needed a coach who helps her emotionally more than her game and her dad is great it. Definitely she needs more world class coach for transitional game, but her father has done good work! To all naomi haters and glory hunters who said she needs bajin, take the L!
    Naomi's ability to fit her game according to opponent is world class. Her strategy to play defensively when other big hitter is on , like kvitova and let the storm pass by and then pull the trigger. . And she goes all out when she plays players like andreescu and barty. Btw these courts are made for pushers not aggressive brand of tennis. Tragic

    • @101poumi
      @101poumi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      deepak mahajan but Barty and adrescue and Bencic are aggressive counterpuncher then you have pushers like halep and svitolina and Kerber and gauff

    • @101poumi
      @101poumi 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then you have big hitters

    • @saurabhchakrabarty7362
      @saurabhchakrabarty7362 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@101poumi Gauff is too young to put into a category. Her game is not even developed yet.
      Serena also used to play pushing counterpunching tennis when she was 16/17.
      So for Gauff you have to wait and watch what category she falls into.
      Halep is not a pusher, imo. She starts pushing when she is leading or tight in a match. But she goes down the line on every opportunity she gets. She is not a powerful player by nature. Doesn't make her a pusher. I personally would definitely place Halep in the aggressive counterpuncher category as Kerber.
      Svitolina, however, though talented, but plays with a pusher's mindset even though I have seen her dictating points against strong players. I think her mindset is very conservative. She definitely needs to improve on that part of her game. I always see Svitolina's coach having to remind Elina to keep playing attacking bcuz Elina's natural tendency is always to go back to playing passive and safe tennis.
      Bianca imo, is definitely an attacking player. But with a solid defensive game.

    Good win by Osaka. Also I love the way Osaka is moving on the court. She needs to not hang so far back on the base line. She is fortunate she won this one. Petra caught her a few times hanging to far back and pulled a few winning drop shots on her. I like Petra she moves well for a tall woman on the court. The only problem with tall players in this sport is that most tall players, not all can be vulnerable when moved side to side. Petra has a great game. She needs to be more patient against her opponents though, but Osaka is not an easy opponent either. This really could have went either way. Just my observation from the highlights. I didn't see the whole match in its entirety.

The projectile of the ball is difficult to control that either stopped by the net or go beyond the baseline. Also in this way she cannot fully use the turning movement of her body & weight to attack & solely rely on her arm power. Vigorous swing of arm but with almost stable body movement make the whole strike disconnected ,not in synchronisation , NOT SMOOTH & gives extra burden to muscles & joints. As a fan , I am not to discouage & give bad statements. May be my observations is totally wrong & silly, I truly hoped she will get big improvements in the future & enjoy her tennis

    This match was a mess - Kvitotva had so many opportunities and failed to win, Osaka looked like she did not want to be there, more unforced errors than winners; not as epic as expected.

      Agree Kvitova double faults ruined her and Petra made too many unforce errors

    I think Osaka's backhand is a bit better than that of Kvitova.
