the second you showed your bait i thought that needs a helper hook something to dangle at the bottom of the bait it was almost a foot long , and low and behold you bring the bait back in with the bottom half chewed off i see that so often .

That’s why I cut down the mackerel baits - but yes the longer sandeel baits could do with a trailing hook 🐟
