    Mark & Brett what an absolutely brilliant video, great topic, great info, great explanation, great relevance, great tips and no BS. All adv riders (and everyone else really) needs to watch this. Thank you for taking the time to put this video together for all of us to benefit.

    Great video Brett. Good to hear your responders inside perspective. I personally have the Inreach Mini
    Never needed to use it in SOS thankfully. Big advantage I see is if you have a group with them you can see each other's position when you get separated. Texts are all done via the Garmin Earthmate app.. also being able to share your map to friend ls and family so they can see where you are at their convenience.. Have even used mine to order dinner at the Birdsville Hotel when we were running late after a trip to Poppel Corner and back in a day..

      That's brilliant!! I'm still keen to check out what Garmin has to offer. It's so good having the capability to reach out for help anywhere in the country!
      I do like that group tracking that Garmin offers. Really keen to give that a go on the Garmin XT2.

    Finally got the chance to watch this.
    It was excellent info that removes some of the mystery.
    Wendy loves the fact I can now periodically send “I’m ok all good” texts that include my location, when I’m out riding on my own.

      @@ADVBrett- yep the Garmin InReach cheapest monthly of $25 and ability to suspend any time, and unlimited sends of “predefined” texts seems good to me.

    Good talk. I'd like to see a little more discussion on differences between PLBs and 2-way satellite messengers, because most people seem to think they're the same thing.

    Does zoleo and Garmin use the same satellites?
    If not which device has the better availability of satellites?

    • @ADVBrett
      @ADVBrett 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Logan! They both use the low earth orbit Iridium network, they also must have a clear line of sight to those satellites to send and receive the signals. With what devices are better, it really comes down to how you want to use the device. I like the PLB as it's got a better chance of getting that signal out to our own Rescue Co-ord Centre in Canberra but I also like how the messenger devices can also touch base with family. It's really a personal preference.

    What three words, get it, it saves mistakes on long lines of numbers for location.
    This was explained to me at a Westpac helicopter presentation by a pilot after talking to him about my type of riding several years ago. Great topic its all good till it goes bad think about what you would do.

    A massive delay? This the electronic age - it takes no time at to communicate between the emergency coordination centre and they will have established protocols with local SAR defining which information is transmitted. So called expert is talking rubbish.

    • @ADVBrett
      @ADVBrett 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually it does. There can be a delay using the messenger devices, nothing happens quickly, even with a PLB it can be a number of hours between the activation, response and rescue.

    • @whisperingwheels
      @whisperingwheels 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      After a 15 second countdown Inreach transmits the SOS signal to the IERCC. The average response time from the receipt of an SOS message until referring an emergency responder is only 11 minutes, wherever you are in the world. Hardly a massive delay. The response time of local SAR will be the same.
