Good news about polygraph tests is that they are NOT allowed to be used in court. The polygraph test has pretty much just been an interrogation technique to get people to confess. The results of the test are 1) almost completely arbitrary in what is considered a “positive” result, 2) not a measure of lying, but a measure of a few sympathetic processes that have nothing to do with guilt or whatever, and 3) able to be fooled fairly regularly with even moderate practice and a calm demeanor when lying
