In those days Pakistan batting always disappointed while chasing. Same fear of failure in chasing compelled Wasim to bat first. Now since Pakistan lost so every body criticises that decision. Even Pakistan couldnt chase against India and Bangladesh in the same WC.

In the earlier part every team who won the toss used to bowl first and Pak was the only team who was batting first and won matches even the commentators were surprised by the Pak decisions of batting first. The strategy was to block till 40 overs and then go for the slog in last 10. So Abdul Razak used to come at 3 at used to occupy crease for long. Then Moin, Afridi, Wasim and Azhar used to make 100 plus runs in last 10. And Pak bowling was so strong that it easily defended totals. The weakest point of that team was that they were worst chasers. They lost to Bang and Ind while chasing. NZ semifinal was a fluke. When NZ scored 241 everybody thought Pak will loose the match but Saeed Anwar and Wasti won for Pak. When Wasim won the toss in the Final everybody was happy that Pak will bat first. And they were batting well with there plan Razaq and Ijaz were batting well. But Shane Warne Bowled an exceptional spell that's why Pak lost!
