Another brilliant hít from Mellancamp. Takes me back to the 80s. 40years later, Im still cranking up the volume, signing snd dancing along to the best.
Beginning of Freshman yr of high school in September 1986. In a brand new city & school when the afternoons were still sunny & warm in Central Illinois. I'd get home from school, turn on MTV and they always played this video. Every time I hear this song, I go back to that sunny warm September afternoon 3:30 pm in 1986.

I have friends and relatives in Indiana. I haven't been up there but they say Alabama is pretty much Indiana South. Country folk who like to have a good time. I dare say both states have changed a lot since the mid 80s unfortunately.
The great thing about this is how natural everything sounds compared to most of the over-produced late 1980s music. It's a brave man who can go against all the fads and trends of the time. This sounds timeless while most of the other music of the time sounds dated. I salute you John ! btw his recent albums are excellent too.
"Paper in Fire" (the song and this video): impactful, loving, charming, and beautiful. "Check it Out" is a monumental, universal, anthem... but also a deeply personal, down-to-the-bone prayer, to get some insight into the life that you are living, that you willingly took on, and that you love, but that you don't quite understand.

I love all kinds of music. But, this song touches my very soul. I feel free when I hear this song. I feel awoken and revived. There should be more music like this through out the world to bring peace to us all. May God bless us all..,.,.....
JCM was one of my favorites growing up in the 80's, now his music takes me places that I had long forgotten. I've always thought he had this certain appeal and especially in this video he really shows us his true self, the man is just so genuine. Meg Ryan is one lucky lady!
I lived in Bloomington all my life, up until last year (I’m 40). John is just a local in B-town. I’ve loved his music ever since I could hear. Love this song!

You two ladies singing at the same mic. I always remember you when I think of this songs video. I guess your mother's and wives now.
Whoever your spouses are they are lucky. Great song.
