This was without a question the most clear and helpful video I have found on getting a solid bass tone for worship music. I would love to see or hear how you might integrate an hx stomp into this set up! Thank you for the work on this video!!
I was always nervous to use my fuzz and overdrive pedals for worship this just made me excited to use them. Modern Worship bass and metal bass are similar then I expected lol
@beloved_music yes thank you! Even a generalized idea or basic principles to mixing would be helpful. Your "What Moves You" cover has been on repeat for me btw! 👍
that microsynth has a great sound but is so huge! I get a similar sound with my MXR octaver, chorus/envelope and an fuzz combined, which are already on my board
Yes it's a little too aggressive & over the top sometimes! MXR bass pedals are great-I think using an octaver to add sub notes is an awesome option as well. God bless!
Agreed! It’s a very well-covered topic by those who do it better than I ever will, so I always shy away from covering electric guitars. Perhaps inviting a guest for this might be awesome and helpful :) thanks for watching!
I don’t have a video on mixing for social media specifically, but I do tend to set the level about 3-5dB higher for the particular instrument I want to highlight. It’ll definitely sound off for a normal mix, but it works in that context!
Hello, I noticed you were using Ableton on a mac. I also made the switch to apple recently. And I am yet to decide if I will stick to Ableton or switch to Logic. I have seen many producers use Logic if they have a mac. Can I know what made you choose Ableton over Logic?
I made the switch to Live from Logic many years ago when I was heavy into producing electronic music, and it had features (sampling interface is very intuitive/incredibly useful for live performances/I like its automation interface) about it that just made sense for that genre, but after using it for all these years it’s just become second nature to me. The learning curve for it is steep initially, but once you get past that curve it’s a very intuitive DAW. In the end, all DAWs have their pros and cons, but the best DAW is the DAW you know best.
Question on the RBass, master bus as in with all the other instruments? You adjust to taste I suppose when the sub sits right on the mix? I actually have noticed Planetshakers and Hillsong had a very clean sub mix in their modern songs. I was mixing for my church during the pandemic and couldnt find or understand that how to achieve that “secret”. Thanks for sharing your insights! Love the album by the way. Music videos next? 😂
Jose, good hearing from you! Yes, I typically don't put RBass on the bass track itself but rather on the master bus (if I feel like the song needs it). It's a pretty heavy handed plugin so I keep the settings at minimum values 99% of the time (60Hz, -24). Even that's enough to make the sub range of your track "bloom." Of course, I always try to get surgical with the kick/bass relationship before I slap any of these things on, but it does help a lot.
Would you be willing to answer a couple Qs for me? First, what alternatives to the synth and Tone Hammer would you recommend? And also, what LUTs or coloring tools are you using to color this video? It’s amazing. Thanks!
Hello, no problem! I believe the MXR octaver is pretty popular as an alternative. I’m not sure these days what people are using in place of the tone hammer, but any bass preamp with tone options (EQ) might be good. I’m not using any particular preset or LUTs for coloring, but I do use Davinci Resolve to grade all my videos ☺️ Camera is BMPCC4K with a Sigma 16-35. Hope this helps!
@@beloved_music thank you! I’ll have to check out they MXR! And I have my eye on a tech 21 VT bass DI! You have great taste and eye for coloring, the glowy filter effect you have going on in this video is great also
Made sure my post switch was on before hitting record! Definitely have made that mistake before. I do hear a difference, but it’s very subtle! Gain was a little lower than how I usually set it, and I also level-matched the two clips in post so we can really hear the difference in tone rather than being misguided by the loudness.
Yeah. I couldn't tell a difference in sounds either. I looked for the orange light and couldn't see if it was on or not. Same settings on my TH and it's a lot more saturated. Like the setup tho.
This guy has the perfect voice for documentaries
🤣
then he goes *rawr rawr rawr rawr* 2:04 XD
Its almost like its eq’d and compressed
🤣 it’s most definitely eq’d and squashed
Bro church bass player here - you just gained another subscriber. Thank you for the video - extremely useful !
BRO these are such a gem, can you please do more of these? I am learning sooo much!
Definitely more on the way :) Let me know what you would like to hear about!

The decapitator from Soundtoys is such a solid saturation plugin. Awesome video David :)
Great video! And PHAT tone! Thanks for sharing your secret sauce :)
Awesome video 🔥
I love the mycrosynth !!

Dude yesss fuzz is the way!! God bless
Precise, helpful, concise. This was SO helpful!!!
This is so money bro!! 🔥
HOW DID I MISS THIS VIDEO? WHEN IM LITERALLY A BASS PLAYER LOL! Well learning a lot!
I found this video extremely useful - thank you!
❤ the P Bass bro
Can you show how you mix all the instruments together and how to balance each sound as a whole?
Thought about this-a very nuanced & difficult topic to teach, but this certainly changes everything when you nail it. I’ll add it to the list!
@beloved_music yes thank you! Even a generalized idea or basic principles to mixing would be helpful.

I need to hear MOREEE 🔥 bass player here ☝🏼😎

really great video!!
For Ableton think live looping, grooves, beats, sound manipulation and control. For Logic think... music
Would love to see one on the electric guitar since tone is such a personal and unique kind of topic!

hello, bro. Can you please make a cover of "WHEN I SAY YOUR NAME" by Victory Worship. Thank you and God bless!!
Thank you for the video!! Do you have any videos or tips for recording bass for social media on how to mix it for phone speakers?
I don’t have a video on mixing for social media specifically, but I do tend to set the level about 3-5dB higher for the particular instrument I want to highlight. It’ll definitely sound off for a normal mix, but it works in that context!
How big of a difference is the tone hammer at the very end of the chain or in the beginning of it I still can’t decide for my board
would love to see the levels of the board i have the same board :P experimenting with different levels
what are the numbers or notes for that fill at 10:06? also amazing tone love how everything sounds!

hiiii - can you show us your keys set up? softwares/hardwares you use? Love to see other people’s set up ☺️
Sure thing Deborah! Added to my list :)

Hi. What string are you using?
Hi! I actually have no idea what strings are on this one, but I’d guess you can’t go wrong with a fresh set of daddario strings!
I think you forgot to switch the tonehmmer di to post. Both ags engaged or disengaged sounds that same

whats the song name?
Saw you took part in 심형진 목사님's new project. Good stuff bro 👍
CCM E guitar breakdown plsss 🤍
🤍🔥
Ok but what if I don’t have a dad ?
My dad might be interested in adoption for as long as it takes to build a board if you paid him 🤔
Everything sounded great till you engaged that micro synth
the settings on the Microsynth can be adjusted to make it way more open sounding .
