Ultimate Lindy Hop Showdown 2006 - Liberation Division. Lindy Hop at it's best!!! East Coast Swing Dancers and West Coast Swing Dancers, eat your heart out!
I'm a 58 year old, 203 pound wood carver with two left feet and this is my absolute favourite. How I wish that I could dance when I was nineteen... I'd a done this; what a way to celebrate being alive.
Amazing!! Brilliant 110% dancing from all competitors. I went to my first swing dance, not lindy, last Friday in a cinema in east London, best night out in years, danced with beautiful girls all night and got a date. You all know what to do...........go dancing. Dave
Not only is the dancing of the competitors in this video amazing, but I LOVE how the crowd is clapping and screaming thru the entire thing. The all around energy of every aspect of this moment captured is incredible and thanks to whoever shared it! The dancing is amazing; off the hook! They are going so fast! I guess it's aptly titled, it's called fast dancing, isn't it?
Swing dancing should most definitely make a comeback. It's so much better than hip hop and anyone can do it as long as they have a LOT of energy and aren't overly clumsy
It already has, in fact, the swing comeback has lasted longer than the original swing era. Just google "lindy hop" and your city/state and you should be able to find something in your area. There are swing dance events going on around the world every weekend.
I just couldn't stop smiling through the entire video! It's refreshing to see that in modern times, young people are getting together, socializing this way, so excited, keeping Swing alive and well. Wish I had something like that to go to in my town. Wow! to dance or play that music with the band, either way, it's all fantastic!! Thank you. ;-)
I'm learning how to swing dance in Phys Ed. Nothing this complicated, obviously, but the choreography were doing is still really cool. We're doing it to "sing sing sing" and it's really fun.
+lindyhop411 That's not true. There's more to swing than just the Lindy Hop. I mean, the Lindy Hop is probably the coolest style of swing, but to say that you aren't learning swing if you aren't learning Lindy Hop is a lie.
absolutely wonderful ! such a classy, fun dance style. wish more people appreciated it more. it makes me think of a time where there were still " ladies and gentlemen". I can only hope if the times come to a full circle we will get to experience this majestic period.
One of the swing dancers in the Safe & Sound video is also in this video. The whole bboy battle format comes from tap dancing, which Lindy Hop (swing dancing) also gets it's inspiration from. Thanks for the respect. If you want to see something that will blow you away, look up the dance scene from the movie Hellzapoppin (1941) and you'll see where we get our inspiration from. :-)
trinifilmmaker While in the 1950s, there were people doing this dance (see films Don't Knock the Rock and Untamed Youth), the swing era took place in the 1930s and 1940s.
incredibly entertaining. the excitement builds, and the audience gets more and more into cheering with each new dancing team, then when they return, they try to beat their last performance. what a kick.
my daughter is 6 and she loves anything that includes flips and dancing. She saw this and now wants to learn this. great job to you all its unbelievable someone can move like that.
I've set my goal to be this good. I'm swing dancing my way into shape and I'm so addicted I started dancing down the hall during school. Actually, I do it regularly because I can't stop doing the Lindy. I literally do it in my sleep.
I just watched a buzzfeed video and a girl said she did swing dance and I had no idea what that was so I searched it up and clicked on the first video I saw lol
lindyhop411 What other kinds of swing are there? Could you tell me some? It seems realy interesting. The music and the way they dance realy get's you going
TheMelopeus Lindy Hop, Charleston, Balboa, Collegiate Shag, St Louis Shag, Carolina Shag, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Boogie Woogie, DC Hand Dancing... Those are the bigger ones.
I totally agree with you on all counts. I'm a POC and though I would like to see more of "us" embrace our jazz, blues, dance, history, I'm always appreciative when ANYONE does it.
+heather Ellis god when I see this Im like wow, that looks awesome, it looks like a whole lotta fun but u gotta know what ur doin to start with I bet the first couple won, they were really good
I just showed this to my 11 year old son. He was talking about adding dance to some of his parkour stunts, and I mentioned "swing dancing" to him. I then found this video to show him what I meant. He now wants me to find him a class! He loved it and so did I! Thanks for sharing it!!
To all those who say, "What has society came to?" It is not dance's fault, its music's and the people's fault. The beat of jazz inspires swing dancing, and the beat of today's music, well that inspires the conduct of today... You couldn't even call it dancing, you don't even move your feet! Why does society like music with the booming bass? I don't know, but that is what we are stuck with in the 21st Century, and all I have to say is the United States culture is shooting itself in the foot by forgetting how to dance. Its events like these that save it from a vicious cycle of devolution. That's why I am here on this video. I want to learn to swing, and experience this classic culture! Plus it looks fun!
the music of today mainly inspires Cha cha, rhumba, or three step swing, sometimes a westcoast. Booming bass maybe a merengue. I'm not sure your point.
Fast Swing also known as the Lindy Hop, a popular partner dance that originated in Harlem in 1927 and is still danced today.wing dances began in African American communities as vernacular African American dances.
love love love this!!! I personally dont have a sense of rhythm so I do tend to suck at dancing but love Swing! Its looks soooo much fun! Kudos to those guys at being able to do those moves!
My brain couldn't process what was going on, it's too fast x'D But I know that to do this type of dance requires a lot of energy and practice, awesome job ^-^
this is a very ambiguous question but what is the approximate length of time it takes to get used to swing dancing? i dont expect an very accurate answer since there are sooo many factors. thanks
Depends what you mean by comfortable, but for a lead, if you go take a class and start going to dances, I'd say you can feel comfortable and be having fun on the dance floor in a couple of months.
My wife and I started dancing in January, after about 4-6 months we were comfortable dancing together at social dances. Dancing with other people is a bit different, it all depends how confident you are I suppose, but now I am comfortable dancing with anyone in our dance classes at social dances and don't mind dancing with strangers, as long as they love dancing and are happy dancing with someone with a little less experience, I'm good with it. Actually, most people are happy to dance with someone else no matter what experience you have, as long as YOU are enjoying it :)
Now this is true dancing! I totally want to learn to do this. I usually could care less about dancing with the way it's done now, but this... this is amazing! Could anyone tell me what the name of the song is that they play in the video. It's probably right in front of me, but I just can't seem to place it.
You can! Just have to learn from an experienced instructor. Also, we call them "air steps" rather than aerials, because that's what the guy who created them called them. :-)
Um this is from 2006. Swing dancing is bigger than ever. You can find it in every major city in the US and Europe and places around the world. If you want to do this, you can, just google "Lindy Hop" and your city/state.
Trevor Simko i'm pretty sure the parents of the white kids doing this style of dance didn't think it was "classy" at the time. You do realize it was created by African Americans the perception that you have about Anaconda is probably the same perception they had about this type of dancing and music.
Inspirational. I think this vid goes down in lindy hop history. It's been one of the top videos that shows up when you search for "lindy hop" for pretty much the whole existence of TH-cam.
Actually, if you want to do this dance, you live in the best time! Lindy Hop is more popular than ever, and the "swing revival" era has lasted longer than the original swing era. Right now you can find swing dance scenes in every major city in the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia!
It's a great dance! Everyone learns differently but on average, folks can learn a lot of the basics in a few hours of lessons but to master it can take much longer. Most who have a lot of talent or musical/athletic inclination take about 1 year to feel comfortable with a lot of the movement and if you just want to have fun and swing around all you need is a few lessons and a big smile :-D in fact, that happy smile is the most important thing above all else w/ Lindy Hop
I'm 18 and just now getting into Lindy Hop, but damn I wish I came across this when I was younger. The rhythm, agility, coordination, and overall social fun demonstrated here definitely resonates with me
Bpk sudah nonton vid swing dance. Teringat masa muda dulu.Tahun 60-70.Masa jayanya rock n roll dance. Seka rang cuma bisa blues dance dan walz dance, yang slow saja.Terimakasih,ya.Mau tidur lagi.Sekarang di Medan jam 1 malam.Bye bye
I'm a hispanic who grew up in Harlem in the Bronx, i don't give a hoot if they are white, black, orange or purple, these kids kicked some serious behind and God bless them for keeping it alive. They all rocked in my book
All the dancers here are so good.Excellent swing Lindy - Hop is great to watch for sure .I would have loved to learn it when I was younger I don't know if I would have the speed and co-ordination to do it justcie now and the band is great to.
Watching this makes me feel so happy.
same
Swing dance is probably the best dance style to learn
+Daniel Susral It is, but it's not easy
Can you imagine the trust you'd have to place in each other to perfect this kind of performance?
Adding this to my bucket list, gotta try this before i die.
Me too but knowing me I will die actually trying this before I die 😂
I'm a 58 year old, 203 pound wood carver with two left feet and this is my absolute favourite. How I wish that I could dance when I was nineteen... I'd a done this; what a way to celebrate being alive.
+Roger Brookes You still can. You should look for Lindy Hop in your city/state!
The flips are cool but I'm most impressed by that fast and fancy foot work! Too keel in time like that at that speed it super impressive!
Karichi Du Soleil In the swing world those flips are called "air steps" because you dance in and out of them. They are part of the dance.
my neck would have broken 12 times already.
I was supposed to be studying for a test, but I had to watch the rest.......Great dancing!
i was doing the same xD
3:24
that couple is amazing.
I remember watching this back when I was 17!! I'm now 26! It still brings so much joy to my heart! I want to learn how to swing dance so badly!
+Ash Google "Lindy Hop" and your city/state. You'll find somewhere to go.
Now this is dancing! It's ashamed you don't really see this anymore. Well now I've decided to take dance classes at my college. :D
Amazing!! Brilliant 110% dancing from all competitors.
I went to my first swing dance, not lindy, last Friday in a cinema in east London, best night out in years, danced with beautiful girls all night and got a date. You all know what to do...........go dancing. Dave
it's true. women love a man that can dance. even though half of women nowadays can't dance either. XD
My daughter asked me what swing dancing was and I showed her this! What better video to have showed her
when I'm sad I watch this
So I'm aassuming the first couple won
If I was the judge I could never pick a winner, they're all amazing
Swing dancing should most definitely make a comeback. It's so much better than hip hop and anyone can do it as long as they have a LOT of energy and aren't overly clumsy
It already has, in fact, the swing comeback has lasted longer than the original swing era. Just google "lindy hop" and your city/state and you should be able to find something in your area. There are swing dance events going on around the world every weekend.
Geez how on earth could you judge a competition like this??? They're all freaking amazing!!!!! :D I need to start going to a swing dance group!!!!
Just google "Lindy Hop" and your city/state to find dancing near you. :-)
Thank you. ;-)
wow! i wish i could do this! it looks like such fun!
You should come out dancing with us. We swing dancers/lindy hoppers are all over =)
Trickeration
i would love to! but i can't dance like that! it must take years to learn how! but i would love to try!
Diane Evans years to dance like them, yeah! but most cities have beginner lessons every week and the social dance floor is much more chill =)
I'll check into it, thanks you! I love to listen to music too! Trickeration
Who needs twerk when you can swing ? :D
***** Finally someone said it
***** You are beautiful.
Yes
I now want to learn how to do that. I definitely can't break dance but there are a lot of those elements in this.
Since swing dancing came first, don't you mean break dancing has elements of swing in it? :-)
Touche.
Galin McMahon Fun Fact: the whole battle contest format that both swing dancing and break dancing have actually comes from tap dancing.
I'm learning how to swing dance in Phys Ed. Nothing this complicated, obviously, but the choreography were doing is still really cool. We're doing it to "sing sing sing" and it's really fun.
+Bobby the Blobfish The dance in this video is called "Lindy Hop".... If you aren't learning Lindy Hop in class, you aren't learning swing dancing.
+lindyhop411 That's not true. There's more to swing than just the Lindy Hop. I mean, the Lindy Hop is probably the coolest style of swing, but to say that you aren't learning swing if you aren't learning Lindy Hop is a lie.
This is one of the most brilliant showdowns i have witnessed!!!!!! Wish everyone involved loads of luck!!! Cheers
I meant to watch only the first few minutes of this video, hoping to understand what Swing is. I ended up mesmerized and sat through the whole thing
Andrea CDBB The dance being done is called Lindy Hop. :-)
omfg so this just soooo amazing
Thy just float across the floor l fucking love this😂
Now this is what I call a dance off!! These couples were amazing!! I'd love to learn how to dance like that!!💚
absolutely wonderful ! such a classy, fun dance style. wish more people appreciated it more. it makes me think of a time where there were still " ladies and gentlemen". I can only hope if the times come to a full circle we will get to experience this majestic period.

Wow, these couples are in flat shoes. Can you imagine doing this in the 50's in heels and proper leather dress shoes.....
Um, you mean 1940s, right?
No, I mean the 1750's! I imagine shoes in those days must have been really uncomfortable
trinifilmmaker While in the 1950s, there were people doing this dance (see films Don't Knock the Rock and Untamed Youth), the swing era took place in the 1930s and 1940s.
Thank you for that, I am not familiar with the history of swing dance or the era it came from. I will check out those films.
trinifilmmaker 1750? That is 264 years ago, are you sure you did not mean 1950s?
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to dance and learn with Frida Segerdahl, for one, she's an amazing dancer, and two, she's downright adorable!
Whaaaaat this is actually amazing! The first couple in black is incredibly fast, I'm amazed.
they are my fave :)
Man, they've got the jives baby! It's the greatest thing once you've got that swing!!! ...smashing!
Wow, this is great. I can't imagine all the energy needed to do this.
Dear god...
this looks like an insane amount of fun...
I've got to learn the Lindy Hop... NOW!
It's so great to see this dance style still alive!
incredibly entertaining. the excitement builds, and the audience gets more and more

+Rosey Oh my god I did too!
Holy shit, this was so energizing to watch! :D I was smiling so much during the whole thing
So awesome!!! Great job everyone!!! I've watched this video a thousand times and cant get enough of it.
I totally agree with you on all counts. I'm a POC and though I would like to see more of "us" embrace our jazz, blues, dance, history, I'm always appreciative when ANYONE does it.
weeeee that looks like so much fun
+heather Ellis god when I see this Im like wow, that looks awesome, it looks like a whole lotta fun but u gotta know what ur doin to start with I bet the first couple won, they were really good
I agree. Lots of stamina. I bet they did too
As many times as I've watched this, this was the first time I realized how stellar the band is. Who was it?
+heather4him The Bellagala Big Band from Minneapolis.
This is seriously amazing 😍🌹❤️
I just showed this to my 11 year old son. He was talking about adding dance to some of his parkour stunts, and I mentioned "swing dancing" to him. I then found this video to show him what I meant. He now wants me to find him a class! He loved it and so did I! Thanks for sharing it!!
lo mejor del baile rapido.. es notable el ritmo y la perfeccion en pareja., gracias a lindyhop411 por subir este video riquisimo
I think it's impossible to watch this without tapping your fingers or your feet! :)

Last week: Wow, this is pretty cool!
This week, after my first swing dancing lesson: HOW DO THEY EVEN...HOW
this is a very ambiguous question but what is the approximate length of time it takes to get used to swing dancing? i dont expect an very accurate answer since there are sooo many factors. thanks
Everyone is different, but I would say on average it takes about a year to get comfortable with it.
HAVE TO GET RIGHT PARTNER & PRATICE!!
Depends what you mean by comfortable, but for a lead, if you go take a class and start going to dances, I'd say you can feel comfortable and be having fun on the dance floor in a couple of months.

I think I must have watched this vid like 74 times since 2006, and every time I watch it I get still excited like crazy. Wish I had been there!
It doesn't get any better than this. "It don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing"! good vid.
Those flips though.
+MerryMichaelmas They are called "air steps"
The first couple was the best..
Nick & Ria are by far the best
Absolutely fan-tas-tic!!!!! I pulled a cramp on my face from smiling so hard!!!!
Thank you :)
watching people dance like that really blows me away ! THAT is dancin... it looks so fun I have tears in my eyes every I watch it I love it!!!
Playing the Star Wars Cantina Band song to this in the background is amazing
I really need to try that.
Whoever talks crap about this deserves to get their soul taken away.
Pointless. Whoever talks crap about this has no soul in the first place.
Now this is true dancing! I totally want to learn to do this. I usually could care less about dancing with the way it's done now, but this... this is amazing! Could anyone tell me what the name of the song is that they play in the video. It's probably right in front of me, but I just can't seem to place it.
WOW!!!!! I didn't know this style of dance continued into this era! Great job!!!!
Best video of swing dancing on the web. I wish I could do aerials, they look like so much fun!
You can! Just have to learn from an experienced instructor. Also, we call them "air steps" rather than aerials, because that's what the guy who created them called them. :-)
That looks just exhilarating. I'm wondering how long they they have practiced to dance so smoothly.
just A M A Z I N G !!!!!
So classy! Too bad it's not like this any more. Now we watch giant ass implants giggle to the beat of "MY ANACONDA DON'T! MY ANACONDA DON'T!"
You do realize it was created by African Americans the perception that you have about Anaconda is probably the same perception they had about this type of dancing and music.
mysterious2007damn I've read over this a couple times and I have no idea what you're trying to say.
Trevor Simko There was nothing complex about what I said you're obviously just a moron with a low IQ
mysterious2007damn Rather than trying to explain your point better, you resort to name-calling. Makes sense...
Inspirational. I think this vid goes down in lindy hop history. It's been one of the top videos that shows up when you search for "lindy hop" for pretty much the whole existence of TH-cam.
What an amazing group of dancers... awesome, cool, and real fun to watch!
I thought something like that is only possible in the cartoons :)
Super humans, man..
Look up the dance scene from the movie "Hellzapoppin" (1941) and you'll see what these dancers are trying to emulate.
best dance ever. I wish I could dance like that, meh. I had to born in a wrong time. ;/
Actually, if you want to do this dance, you live in the best time! Lindy Hop is more popular than ever, and the "swing revival" era has lasted longer than the original swing era. Right now you can find swing dance scenes in every major city in the US, Europe, Asia, and Australia!
lindyhop411 AND New Zealand ;)
what's stopping you from doing it now? this video doesn't look THAT old
Look at their ages, they were born at the wrong time too, they learned.
why do i hear somone pretending to be a zombie from Minecraft at 0:10
watching people dance like that really blows me away ! THAT is dancin... it looks so fun I fun I have tears in my eyes every I watch it I love it!!!
It's official. This is the first style of dancing I will learn. I actually WANT to dance like this. It seems ridiculously fun to do.
Oh my. I hate dancing.
But this stuff rules!
if only all americans were like this
How much time do I need to learn to dance like that?
How much time to you have?
lindyhop411 more than enough.
This is so amazing!!
I'm 18 and just now getting into Lindy Hop, but damn I wish I came across this when I was younger. The rhythm, agility, coordination, and overall social fun demonstrated here definitely resonates with me
468 people HATE dancing
or don't know dancing when they see it ! ;)
nah, must have been accidental thumbs down. No reason to dislike this vid.
wow....and i played 7 hours of dark souls 2 today... *sigh*
This shit needs to come back so white people can be relevant in dancing again! lol (Im white btw)
Lindy Hop is more popular than ever. Try googling the term and your city/state and see what you can find. :-)
i wanna learn and im half black
Davis Ross
you are brown, not white.
doesn't exist "half black"
do you have white leg and black hand?
yes i do! lol
lol, swiss cow

Who says white people can't dance?
Det 1 Girl Although, the dance being done was created in Harlem in the 1920s. ;-)
+lindyhop411 true
love your profile photo btw
+Det 1 Girl everyone.
xD
+Det 1 Girl No one told that xD
this looks very painful, so much arm yanking
+Alexander Lee Nope. If you are yanking, you are doing it wrong.
lindyhop411 then are they all doing it wrong? It looks like a lot of the time the man yanks the woman's arm to get her to fly in a certain direction.
Yeah, because you are such an expert about swing dancing that you can tell that from watching this video? Let's see your video of you dancing.
+lindyhop411 no, I know nothing about it. Just hard for me to understand how they actually achieve those movements, but doesn't mean I'm right.
As I said, if someone is yanking, they are doing it wrong. There's no yanking in any of this dancing.
This is actually scary as shit.
*Fast Swing Dancing*
KLASS !!! Thank you
I'm a hispanic who grew up in Harlem in the Bronx, i don't give a hoot if they are white, black, orange or purple, these kids kicked some serious behind and God bless them for keeping it alive. They all rocked in my book

All the dancers here are so good.Excellent swing Lindy - Hop is great to watch for sure .I would have loved to learn it when I was younger I don't know if I would have the speed and co-ordination to do it justcie now and the band is great to.
Thank you for being so civil, I wish more people were like you, especially on TH-cam.
HAPPY FEEEETTT!!! LOL! Just fabulous!!! :D
this looks so awesome, i wanna learn this!
