You mention not having ebay or tcgplayer and just having your own site for initial sales; so how are you directing traffic to a new site? And advertising it via your youtube with 10k subs doesn't count as that wouldn't be 'from scratch' lol! Cool vid idea, looking forward to following the journey!
Initially I’ll be using Instagram, Facebook, and yes TH-cam. Now you’re right, I do have 10k subs, however having been absent from my channel for over a year, more of my views actually come from non-subscribers. Also, I now have to work myself back into the TH-cam algorithm (ie posting consistently, making great videos that bring in new subs, keep viewers watching, etc). It really is like starting from scratch. My other plan, which is a little bit of a spoiler alert 🚨 is I’ll be looking to get on other popular Pokémon TH-cam channels to help spread my message. It’s a very similar tactic to an author who is releasing a new book that you see on all the podcasts within their space. I think some folks are getting too caught up in the minutiae of what I’m doing rather than focusing on the fundamentals. For example, I’ve seen some saying “You’ve got $5k+ in products so you’re not starting from $0!” That’s not the point. The point is to start with what you have, no matter if it’s $100 in products or $100,000. My guess is that if you’re looking to start a POKÉMON business then you probably have POKÉMON products. The problem that I see in the community is that other people are starting a business by putting thousands on a credit card or thinking the only way is to get in with a distributor that strong-arms you into buying thousands worth of products that they know you can’t move. Whether they were from you’re childhood, personal collection, or even investments, starting with what you have on hand is by far the cheapest option of all. So yes, at some point in time you will have spent some money in one way or another. But that’s typically how business opportunities arise. You find yourself with the right products and/or the right services, at the right time. Great question my friend and thank you for your support!
@@pokenav_ Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I think using ebay or tcgplayer is a good idea whilst you get started as it's free advertising whilst you're trying to grow numbers on social media. The 10 or so percent you pay is worth the cost to advertise imo. I'm not sure what you meant about the algorithms for ebay/tcgplayer, as you can sort it into cheapest first (which most people do). Looking forward to the next videos :)
A little misleading stating starting with $0, as you have some expensive sets already, that if you were to buy today would set you back a pretty penny. A true cost to the start your journey would be more apt.
I am retired disabled veteran. Its my dream to own a card shop. Im in the process of paying off debt and starting my journey of opening up a card shop.
What happened to the title of starting with minimal of own capital? Not everyone will have 9K of Pokémon assets to begin with. You started the video great and then switched to you personal collection which most of us don’t have on hand. Thank you for the video and I will wait until the next video in the series to smash the Subscribe button.
Yeah that seems abit strange, i am in the same situation as in the video i already have a bunch of stuff i can start selling that is sealed etc so it works fine for me, but kinda misleading name of the video :)
He had to cheat because there is not fast money I'm pokeymon man I have 50k to invest in pokeymon I have been investing selling for years your not going to get filthy rich you might make a few thousand but that's about it better off just working because it's almost impossible only one set in pokeymon really took off evolving skies in the past 3 years its really impossible to get rich especially off of pokeymon
That's a fair question but it's clear he was saying he was going to start the business with no new capital. It's close to impossible to start a business with $0. But starting a business with property you already own is smart
The reality is there’s no such thing as starting with 0 everyone will have their own starting budget. Selling off a collection feels like 0 because it was money spent 5-10 years ago so I get that. The best thing is having an audience. The most challenging is obtaining product below MSRP. I’m curious to see how u plan to stock ur shelves. I know most distributors require u to have brick and mortar. Looking forward to the next vid!
🔥🔥🔥 exactly what I did bud. I opened my store about 2 months ago with a partner. 🎉🎉🎉. Glad to see you back on the tube and this series will be thrilling!
$0 start is a false claim. You have video equipment, partnerships, experience, and maturity. Most 18-28 yr olds do not have any of those and will fail if everything runs perfect short term. Your information is calm and clean so you get some atta boys for sharing good information.
I really appreciate this kind of video. My wife and I are working to trying to open up our own tcg store and we just don't know where to begin as we are building from scratch as well and going about it has been a bit confusing especially with trying to find the best way to go about everything
Definitely follow along then my friend! And if you ever have any questions, feel free to reach out. I also encourage you to check out PokeNE. Great advice and applicable knowledge. Best of luck!!
Stoked to have come across your page. Looking forward to tracking your journey. Just a heads up, some of your social links 🔗 in your about me section are broken!
If anyone just starting off doing this and you live in california an s-corp is only worth it if you are projected to make 30-35k in profits...anything less just do sole proprietorship, even an LLC isn't worth doing as single member llc gets taxed the same as a sole proprietorship (it's just a liability insurance, whos gonna sue you for selling cardboard?, i had to cancel my LLC when i figured this out to avoid paying $800 in llc fees in CA, if you have your own website just have your buyers agree to a term of service contract before purchase to have FREE liability insurance) ... i do agree s-corp gives the best tax advantages, but it's not worth it if you're only making 5k or less profits per year when you factor in paying payroll, annual tax fees $800, incorporation fees $100, don't forget legal and accounting fees too.
Hey PokeNav, quick question here. I want to open a store as well as creating a brand for streaming and social media clips, merchandise, etc. but I'm worried about the name and the things I'm able to do/sell, do you know what's up with that?
interested to follow this. good luck! you have a nice start with those sets. a mix of things that have dropped and risen in value (evo and evo skies) so i guess the value has stayed pretty similar in total
Seeing how it's done because I got some cards for free and most were fossil, base set, or jungle. Most were light to moderate play. Some real bangers like foil Blane's moltres, the first movie promo dragonite, A foil chansey from bs2, etc. Even most of the commons are like 1$ cards.
That’s awesome 👏 I’d be happy to give some advice on best routes to take for this collection. Feel free to reach out via email at pokenav27@gmail.com 👍
Thank you for this video. I'm going through the same thing and I haven't started selling because I want to have a DBA to open a business account first. I have alot to learn, But I can't wait to get started.
I would encourage you to reach out to the department of revenue office in your state. They can help you get that process expedited and set up appropriately.
@PokéNav much appreciated. I'll keep a close eye on you and your journey. Thank you for the reply, it is very encouraging. Ha e an awesome weekend man. 😎
