The cup is doing so well not only because of the tension in the rubber, but also because of the concealed air in the cup. the deformation is compressing the air inside the cup what generates additional energy into the bounce
I just want to thank you guys! The kids and I have been watching your channel for about 4 years. Over the past year my ex surprised me, after 13 years together, with a text message saying she was leaving while I was at work, so she took my kids and now I only get to see them on some weekends. Then one of my brothers died when a car pulled out in front of him when he was on his motorcycle, I was working on campers for Camping World then they surprised us by closing the doors at our location, a few months later my father passed. Watching your videos has helped me get through a lot of things. We live in Askov MN and it's -6° this morning. I've been feeling like the worst dad in the world because all I do is work and I'm always in a lot of pain in my back (had surgery on it 11 years ago), now I'm about to be 47 and I have to walk with a cane but have to work because it's the only way to survive. Thank you guys for being a sort of light in my very dark world. I'll continue watching and praying my life gets better, thanks for everything you guys do.
I recently got into sling shots and let me tell you I went down a rabbit hole learning about rubber/latex. It's still an effing mystery to me though. So many variables involved with fine tuning the rubber thickness, length, taper, and size and weight of the projectile in order to achieve the best results. Some set ups are better for power where others are better for speed (again an effing mystery) I do know that less is more as it'll actually slow itself down if there is too much rubber. Temperature is a big factor as well. I would def save it for a warmer day but not blazing hot. Like 75° F and partly cloudy would be ideal for optimal performance. Brand new rubber is also more prone to ripping if you just max it right out the gate. It needs to be "broken in" to increase longevity. Sharp edges and corners are no no. Look at some sling shot designs to get a better idea of how to secure it without weakening it. I think the ring needs to be much larger as well. The rubber doesn't have enough room to move before it starts loosing power trying to force itself through such a small hole. I really hope y'all get it working right! Talk to some slingshot pros that make their own band set ups. I guarantee they'll have some valuable insights that can help achieve your goal!
Daaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmnnnnnnnnnn. The nostalgia’s real, I’ve missed your tower vids when they were pretty much every week 2016 - 2020. I first discovered you guys in 2018 when that was your golden era and since then you got me through a lot of teenage years. I was 12 then and now I’m 18 and I still watch you guys regularly and I hope to see more tower vids in the future.
If you guys were to try this again, Might I suggest a few things to try next time that might increase your chances of success? - Increase the height of both the base frame and the tension frame by a factor of 1.5. Seeing as the main fail point was the ball bottoming out on the frame, increasing that distance should work a treat. - Like Gaunson said, maximize protection around anywhere the rubber makes contact with the frame. Ideally, you won't want the rubber to be the thing making direct contact with the frame. You want something else inbetween on both sides as a buffer. Anything that takes the edge off should do the trick. - Make the base frame, bolt clamp, and rubber cut-outs circles just like the tension frame. The straight edge corners are a focal point for stress buildup, and round edges allow for stress to disperse easier without damage. Edit: The people who have responded sp far are also really smart. Listen to them too, lol
I would say, adding some oil to the underside of the rubber to remove the friction from the metal frame so the round rubber part in the middle is as stretched out as the side skirts
@@guywy8310Add some oil to the top surface too, it’ll reduce the friction between the ball and the rubber and allow for greater tension in the area directly in contact with the ball
Yeah I was thinking radiused and polished edges and larger surface area and height for the frame and the center rig and larger sheets of rubber and latex. Make several replacement radiused/polished clamping bars for bad drops.
The circular and square mix really was the failing point here. As you said, there are specific points where the tension is WAY higher than other spots due to the distance between the outer square edge and the inner round one. From the corner to the ring it's like 3x the distance as from the middle of the straight to the ring. The tension in the short distance will be so high and the tension towards the corner will literally be 1:3 of that. Not only does that put stress in some areas that WILL cause failure, but you also lose out on so much rebound because the corners kinda do nothing.. The trampoline would be about 30% more bouncy if they got even tension around the whole thing. There's a reason you don't mix squares and circles much in engineering. Many reasons actually. Every surface must be as smooth as polished glass as well, because abrasive surfaces will make tiny tears in the rubber which will be failure points. You can't use an angle grinder to get the surface smootnhess you need here. You're gonna have to go in with a sander and some fine paper and a lot of elbow grease, the surface must be SMOOTH. If you cut a tiny little nick in a rubber band and pull it, it will rip immediately with almost zero force. Also, the bolt holes are a massive weak point. That CAN be solved by looking into the world of drums. Here's how: Look up how a bass drum hoop works. Do the same, but make the hoop press against a totally flat surface with the rubber between the surface and the hoop. Just in short: Weld nuts all around the outer rim of the bottom frame. Get wing nuts with a clamp that reaches around the TOP SIDE of the hoop on top, then tighten those things up evenly around the ring (don't just pin one down and go to the next screw, screw them all in so the ring presses down evenly around the whole thing by going across, as in first bolt you screw in a fair bit of the way at 12 o clock on the circle, next screw is 6 o clock, then 9, then 3, then you just keep on going around in a crossing pattern, just like you would if you were swapping a tire, you don't just pin one bolt and go to the next, you tighten them gradually to make sure the wheel isn't on all crooked). Just watch a youtube video of someone swapping a bass drum head, you'll see how it works. You just need for the ring and the frame to be the same size, not overlapping like on a drum where the drum head itself has its own metal ring. You specifically want to pay attention to the tightener wing nuts and how they're clamped onto the hoop and screwed into the side of the drum. You want to replicate this. I'll give you an 80% chance of success if you go with this method. As to the mention of using oil, be specific about the oil you choose, because certain oils eat rubber. Ask your hardware store guy for a lubricant that doesn't deteriorate rubber. Silicon lubricants are probably your best bet here, but I'm no chemist so ask someone who knows. You CAN do this, but you will never reach 1:1, that's physically impossible. I expect it would be hard to get above 90% rebound.. Also, bowling balls are not your friend here. Especially old gnarly ones with cracks and divots. Any rough surface is going to be a problem.
Shoutout to Jack for going through years-old file folders to dig up clips for every montage the boys throw at him. I'm sure it's not an easy task, and the man always delivers. Bravo, Jack.

First off, you are all legends and I’m so proud to support you!! Special shout out to EJ who is a beautifully brilliant man!! This video really helped me see the difference I’ve been feeling with your content lately compared to old since you were back at the tower and even had those clips of past stuff. There is just something different with your energy and with the editing in particular. Seems like a lot more quick cuts and less cohesive story. I think day three felt a bit more natural. I say all this not to complain but to hopefully give useful feedback from a long time roonie and someone who has rewatched the 2017-2022 vids several times over. Love being back at the tower, big fan. Also just wanna say HR Gaming is an excellent 'let's play experience'. Just a group of friends playing games together, however they want to. It's great.
The look on Brett's face when the first ball tore the rubber was priceless. On any other channel, I think someone would have had a word bleeped out, lol.
The tower!!! Going back to our ROOTS! All about it, I really missed them. Never thought watching various objects fall from the same tower for hours on end would bring me nostalgia, but here we are.
Imma be honest, the second I saw the metal bars in a cone shape I knew it would cause the rubber to break when the ball pushed the rubber into the metal bars. Critical oversight, but hey that's how science learns and adapts!
I think you would get better results if you stretched the rubber over a sealed enclosed structure. That way you get the tautness of the rubber + air pressure
Regarding the quartz ball and the flashback to an earlier viddy when Scott explained the ancient Egyptians made their shovels from quartz- remember what they did with those shovels and who did it? It was Horus Benutus, and he was widening the Nile.😂
That opening failure was epic. I wonder how many others were glued to their screen mouth open, anticipating what was going to happen and then this! Our faces were undoubtedly hung in suspended animation.
hearing someone shout "head" when one of you dropped the marble.. love it.. that is a real industry standard in my line of work and I caught myself saying it out loud then heard the guy in the background doing it too.. we actually shout HEADACHE, and the rule is you scream it, and everyone that hears it does too, to decrease risk of injury.. then you run towards any object you can outside the perimeter, and people within a few feet of the tower should actually run towards the towers typically.. but that isnt true since this is a leaning tower.. in normal towers you run towards the tower because the odds of a clean drop all the way down to the foot of a tower are incredibly low.. the dropped object is most likely doing to hit the structure then bounce further away from the tower before reaching the ground.. again not true in this case.
Love you guys coming back to the Tower. Also don't worry too much about the originality of it, you guys keep things plenty original just by being your ridiculously awesome selves.
I love the throw back here, I missed the days when all videos were filled with a bunch of banter. now days it just straight to the action in a lot of destruction videos. love this
Fantastic episode gents, great to see you back at the tower. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks for an awesome year of content
I know this was a challenging video to get made but it's also a great opportunity for us to see some of the behind the scenes effort that goes into each of your videos. Sometimes things don't work, sometimes forces outside your control or things you didn't account for happen and it's always nice to get the occasional look at what you boys do when that happens. "Well that didn't work like we hoped, how can we fix it and improve it for next time?" and all that
Every single person who watches this video better give it MAX ENGAGEMENT w/likes/comments/shares/re-watches so these boys are incentivized to go back to the tower far more frequently. THIS is what HR does best!!! Thank you guys for going back!!! 🙏🏼🎉 🙏🏼 🎉
This was a refreshing change of pace. Maybe I'm just too old, but it was easier and more enjoyable to watch this whole thing compared to the 15-minute rapid-fire desctruction videos with a million cuts and no context.
I agree. I actually like these lower key vids more than the grandeur productions. It makes a good mix and variety to bring it down from time to time. I like the longer vids where the compete somehow over the shorter, more spectacular vids. The golf variants. The RC cars. Classic HR content.
Love the science and experimentation you guys have done this episode. The challenge of getting the high bounce is very entertaining. The force gauge was the icing on the cake. Great episode!!!
Love the videos! I’m taking a shot in the dark here, but maybe friction is a part of the problem. If you all try again try oiling the trampoline with some baby oil or vegetable oil or olive oil. Something that won’t be a problem if it goes everywhere
One of my favorite vids in a long time. Love seeing the process. That not everything works the way you want it to. That it takes lots of tries to get the cool shots you do. Welcome back

The tower vids are my favourite!
Ditto Pickle
Just found your channel. Subbed for more!
They have a lot of good videos to choose from.
Outstanding way to end the year!
Merry Christmas, fellas and 44 Club.

THE TOWERSSS BAAACCCKKKK OMGGGG!!! OG 44 CLUB IS VERY HAPPY
these legacy style small team emulating efforts are much more happiness inducing :)
It's such a relief to to be able to watch a good, clean, wholesome, entertaining video without a bunch of swearing and cussing!! Thank you, fellas!
They’re BACCCKKKK!!!!
25:58 I think Stanford was laughing at a certain shape 😂
4:20 Editor Jack might have one of the deepest voice in whole Australia
hearing someone shout "head" when one of you dropped the marble.. love it.. that is a real industry standard in my line of work and I caught myself saying it out loud then heard the guy in the background doing it too.. we actually shout HEADACHE, and the rule is you scream it, and everyone that hears it does too, to decrease risk of injury.. then you run towards any object you can outside the perimeter, and people within a few feet of the tower should actually run towards the towers typically.. but that isnt true since this is a leaning tower.. in normal towers you run towards the tower because the odds of a clean drop all the way down to the foot of a tower are incredibly low.. the dropped object is most likely doing to hit the structure then bounce further away from the tower before reaching the ground.. again not true in this case.
4:11 "If you look at it and you change, you are a GoPro"
Y'all don't forget to like these guys are extremely interactive with the audience and are absolutely hilarious
Love you guys coming back to the Tower. Also don't worry too much about the originality of it, you guys keep things plenty original just by being your ridiculously awesome selves.
29:48 bro really said 💥💥🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁🚁
Bird migration stunt is my pick! Please figure out what that is and do it.
Oooh wow. The adds drastically increased since the last time i watched you guys dropping the anvil.
You guys are still freaking awesome!!
Very much enjoyed this one. The fails, the learning, the casual shenanigans and gaffs, it's all there. Merry Christmas!
“One touched my back rib” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This felt like an old school HR video and I loved it. Good to see you guys back at the tower!
"Well that didn't work like we hoped, how can we fix it and improve it for next time?" and all that
"How much powder? One pound!" lives rent free in my head & I smile every time I think about it 😅
Every single person who watches this video better give it MAX ENGAGEMENT w/likes/comments/shares/re-watches so these boys are incentivized to go back to the tower far more frequently. THIS is what HR does best!!! Thank you guys for going back!!! 🙏🏼🎉 🙏🏼 🎉
best one for a while... really enjoyed it, loved the secret historical footage too 😁
This was a refreshing change of pace.
Nostalgic moment watching you guys back at the tower! Merry Christmas boys!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Yr HR crew! Cheers for all the awesome content and laughter this year you guys rok!
Yes!!! Finally back to the videos that made me start following ya all many years ago!! These are so much more fun to watch!!!
The sound of the crash and Brett’s reaction after that first drop is just beautiful. I’m in tears here. 😂
Merry Christmas to all the HR team & Rexy.. thanks for all the videos.. love em. Hello from Sydney..🇦🇺🎅🎄
Thank you for the genuine laughs!❤
Love the science and experimentation you guys have done this episode. The challenge of getting the high bounce is very entertaining. The force gauge was the icing on the cake. Great episode!!!
Love the videos! I’m taking a shot in the dark here, but maybe friction is a part of the problem. If you all try again try oiling the trampoline with some baby oil or vegetable oil or olive oil. Something that won’t be a problem if it goes everywhere
Idk about trampolines but when it comes to adult toys and lube, oil based lubricants can damage the latex/rubber toys.
I am so happy that I am not the only one that still sings He's got the One tonne Rodeo
Your tenacity for this vid is highly commendable, gents. Good on ya.
I can't believe I've watched you chaps for 7 years now. Keep it going!
Just an absolute wholesome video. Love the vid boyz!!!
One of my favorite vids in a long time. Love seeing the process. That not everything works the way you want it to. That it takes lots of tries to get the cool shots you do. Welcome back
04:11 Such a relief to finally hear a soothing, manly voice in stead of the usual chipmunks screaming on this channel. Hire him! 😌
I'll do my duty and say I'm happy to see the boys back at the tower! What a Christmas miracle ❤️
