Seriously, when I started 25+ years ago the quality of entry level gear wasn't so good.
The quality of the stuff you can get for your money today is unreal.
I bought one of these on sale for $130 from GC and am so happy with it.
The only thing I think you missed is just how much FUN these things are to play!

I’ve had this guitar for a year. For the money it’s great, although brand new you can see that it’s a “budget” model made at full speed at a highly mechanized factory.
    It needs setup and care.
I did not have to spend money but rather time and it's finally good. It’s light and fun!
I did all this to mine: tighten all the screws, polish the frets, sand 2 bridge screws that touched the strings, re-solder a volume pot cable to make the tone knob work, change the strings to 11s, widen the nut slots, tighten the truss rod, screw again the bolt-on neck to put it straight with the body, turn the pickup selector, remove the second string tree ....

Good review. Just picked one up. Tip for stringing: shape the end of the string into a buttonhole ,or the shape of the letter J or maybe U would be a better description. That way the string will stick up where you can easily grab it.

I did order one of these tonight. Mostly because it was $210 Cdn in Feb. 2021. CHEAP. Also because its Squier! I'm a fan of Squier quality. I've never owned a Bullet of any sort. It was time to change that! I expect to level a few tall frets and file the fret ends. I don't care about that! Your review here confirms that I'm a smart guitar shopper. Thanks!! Friend.

Nov 2022 Thoughts: I just bought one…this is what it required. Filed the fret ends to do away with the sharp frets. Taped off neck and did a top notch fret polishing…AND, sanded (rounded) the neck edges. Take your time, and check the feel. Took it to 10’s…adjusted action and truss. Then cut the fret slots to proper specs. It’s the best sounding sgd playing Mustang I’ve ever had. The modern 12” radius is super sweet. These can be had in pawn shops fir $100 bucks or so. They’re great guitars for tinkering types….probably disappointing to out of the box players.

I have a hereditary problem as my body destroys calluses, and by that I mean we (my family) don't get them. They start to form then go to bed to wake up with them 90-100% gone. It gets so bad that when I try to practise it feels like I am playing on razor blades and immediately have to stop. So much pain I am seven months in, and you wouldn't know that I wasn't in my first week. I play 10s, and I wonder if 8s would help at all? I did try 9's at first for the first month. I have 8's on the way (oos everywhere), but would this guitar be for me? I have tunnel carpal syndrome now thanks to how I have to wreck my wrist to hit the low strings. My hand size is 6.5in from wrist to the longest finger and 8 in from the tip of my pinky to the tip of my thumb. My fingers are the typical broad Germanic type.

New White Alnico Pickups that I split and made capacitor changes on the Tone and Volume Pots, for a total of $200.00 I have a "Name Brand" guitar that everybody likes the way it plays, and then blows them away with all the Tones you can get out of this now.

@@NicolasGalante I used Fleor Alnico 5's in White for my Mustang and the same pickups in Black for a custom Strat that I made.... both bought on Amazon. I can't really say which were better sounding, because I Coil Split the Fleor Pick Ups in both guitars, plus I installed better Pots for the Push/Pull coil split with new Capacitors and completely rewired...I didn't record anything before, so it's really hard to say what's better...however, BOTH Guitars sound very COOL to me, especially since i can Double the Tones from the Coil Splits.

I've had one for a few years, I saved up 100€ and my parents gave me 50€ after doing well on my exams lol. It plays fine, the only real problem is the low e saddle is a little wonky but it's not to the point where it's unplayable so it doesn't really bother me. Honestly I think the pickups sound pretty decent too, all I'd want to change would be the straps, because I'm always paranoid of dropping it. Also I gotta get a right angle cable at some point lmao I keep thinking I'm going to bump into the sticky-out ones

I almost sold mine and I'm glad I didn't because I didn't realize what the mustangs history really was because I saw a version that had two single coils. Musicians Friend had a white one that matched my Bullet Strat with a HH HT limited edition FSR and I paid 129 dollars because I also had the Bullet Tele and it was a Red sparkle. My apartment got broken into and they stole the Strat and Tele and left the mustang. So I said to my self okay I got to keep it. I replaced the black knobs with the nickel Fender speed knobs and all I got to do is smooth the fretboard edges and I'm all set. I replaced my Bullet Strat with the new Indian laurel fretboard sunburst and the Tele with the monoprice butterscotch with the black pickguard.

I've given up trying to predict how a guitar will sound based on price. I built two of my own customs from Warmoth parts, each for about $2K when all was said and done (factory build of the same would have cost 4K to 5K) and I have a ton of cheap-o guitars. The $150 guitar with the plastic nut and bad trem that knocks everything out of tune if I use it at all is the best-sounding one.

I recommend the Yamaha Pacifica 012 or the Ibanez GRX70QA, these are a bit more than the Squire Bullet.. but absolutely worth the extra 20-30 bucks for a way better guitar.
First Act was my first Electric Guitar too, so I know your pain! The Squire Bullet Mustang is nice, I have one (was my second electric actually) but it’s not my favorite to play. For a cheap guitar yeah it’s good, but like the First Act, I out grew it fairly quickly and wanted something a bit more advanced and a bit nicer. I’d absolutely go with the Pacifica or Ibanez for my second guitar if I did it over again and skip the bullet altogether.
On the plus side, the thing I really like about the Squire Mustang is how light it is! It’s extremely light.
So yeah FOR the *cheap price* it’s absolutely playable, it’s not a bad guitar, a bit overrated in my opinion but you get what you pay for.
