Eh that was his biggest issue with combat. He left Esther to her own devices way too much and just used Ollie. Thankfully he finally did start switching between them in combat. 😁

I literally love these series! I've been watching them since at like 4PM to 3AM, I'm obsessed with wizardly now, I started playing Wizard 101! Ni No Kuni FTW!
For me, Esther and Swaine never seemed to die at all, I think because I had everybody go after 1 enemy at a time to quickly reduce enemy numbers and had them set up with 3 decent familiars and not just 1 or 2, allowed them options on what to do, otherwise they try to fight as themselves and get hammered! I'm replaying and Swaine has a familiar that, at level 10 already has 200 defence and the Yoo Hoo ability, which attracts enemy attention making him a decent tank early on.
ademetal Well, it really depends what tactics you put for them. For me, Swaine basically wanted to die all of the time. xD For now, I've put him as backup so that he wouldn't die as much. As for the girl that I can't spell the name of for my life, she's just set to heal and actually stays alive for most of the time. It just depends on what you'd like, is all.
just a few tips for you Martyn: -do the sidequests,bonuses you get from merit stamps are hella useful. -grinding is a must,because the game doesn't really tell you once you're underleveled. -don't stick with original familiars only,catch some more and try out different tactics. -equip as best as you can,and revive your teammates.they help alot. Series are enjoyable,I'm loving it,but seeing you struggle from time to time isn't fun to watch.
Hey Martyn, there's actually a way to make Esther useful and not die at all! You should tame a lumberwood, which works well with her because it acts as a really heavy meat wall and has good healing abilities. You can tame him at "No longer mine" now that you have a boat. (It takes a long time though)

Here are some tips for you Martyn. 1. It is key in this game to do a bit of grinding here and there to stay up to level. 2. Complete side-quests, they give xp and gold which you will need in the future. 3. During boss battles it is best to kite the boss away from your teammates or keep a very careful eye on them. Bye!
Also, Shonky Honkers and their evos are good magical attackers, and Naiads and their evos are good healers. If you need a wall, there is a creature back in Mount Smoky called a Hullaballoo, and it looks like a balloon. They're fantastic defensively. Those merit stamps you get from quests can be traded in for rewards in the bounty place, and in the second level of prizes (which unlock after buying all of the first) have an upgrade that collects all glims at the end of battle. Do your best! >w
When you go into the familiars menu and press square to swap them around, in the top right above each human character it shows each characters favourite genuses to use. It's not set in stone but you do get damage bonuses for having them use their favourites. *Somewhat Spoilers* Oliver: Milites (fighters like strippy or purrloiner), Vermes (bugs and reptiles), Dracones (dragons) Esther: Aquatica(fish), Aves(birds), Flora(plants) Swaine: Automata(mechanical), Mortui (undead), Bestiae (animals)
Alas, this is were we depart on our Adventure Martyn. I do not wish to spoil any more of the game or the movies plot as I've been wanting to get the game and movie for a while now. Now the question is: beat the game first? or watch the movie first?
You thought a lot more on this battle, awesome ep, Martyn! I recommend that you collect stamps by doing side missions. You can get more gear, and money. I also think you should grind a bit before/after each episode. More experience the better, eh, mun? xD Oh and make sure to pay attention to Esther's MP, since she is going to be the team healer, I'm assuming. Trade around your familiars and see who works well with who. All in all, looking forward to your reactions in future scenes/puns!
Do the side quests. They get you bonuses that help out a lot. Try to get around 3 stamp cards done, then get the 2 bonuses you like the most. I can remember that there is one for much higher glim drop rates. Also, metamorph sappy and take boo out the team, and bring purrcy in. I haven't played the game myself, this is all just from watching a few youtubers play Ni No Kuni. Not mentioning names though.
Also, Martyn, it would really help to level up a bit right here, because you'll be battling a certain somebody really soon. Also, Swaine is really awesome in battle. He doesn't have much magic, but his trickshots have different abilities as you unlock them. His mugshot can steal things during battle. ;) I suggest giving Esther creatures with healing abilities, Swaine ones with good physical attack stats, (since he doesn't have the best magic) and give yourself the magical attackers.
Martyn, here's some general advice: Metamorphose your familiars now, since the world is now opened up and you can go to one of the islands in the north to fight a Toko to get a butt-load of EXP from them. Go back to Al Mamoon and talk to Horace again, he still has something to say. Do more sidequests and get merit awards, they come in VERY handy later on. Also, don't listen to the idiots saying to use the pistol on the crab. You can't. It won't allow you to use it without a green chest around.
Set Esther's Tactics to "Keep Us Healthy," she usually doesn't spend the whole battle trying to beat the enemy with her harp, she usually sends her familiar instead. As for Swaine, probably keep his at "Provide Backup." And have the Target as "Attack Leader's Target." You might want to give Swaine Kangy, Monolith, and, if you have one, a Bonehead. And since you have a Purrloiner, you might want to give him to Oliver. And as already mentioned, you might want to do some quests.

Martyn, a tip: Try to keep monitor your commands for Esther so she can help you. You can switch from Oliver to her as well. I just find it sad to see Esther useless when she dies. She's actually quite useful. :D

The governor is not the afro man, please metamorphose Sappy (Boo as well but mainly Sappy!), rearrange familiars so that Swaine has three (Gunther's a very slow tank), Esther won't heal if she runs out of MP so that might be why she goes and harps at the monsters and please do more side quests! When you get the travel spell you should start doing sidequests to earn stamps because at the 3rd(and final) line of the merit rewards you can increse Ollie's HP wnd MP by 100! And its gonna be really useful
Yes it does, it makes the voice in my head pronounce each word like the start of a sentence so it's as if the guy is emphasizing each word. Sorta like when people add a ton of a vowel to a word, like "Soooooooo", makes you drag out that sound to an almost whiny degree.
There are Green Chests in Ding Dong well, Golden Grove, Al Mamoon (I think), and another one in Castaway Cove. Your choice as to whether or not you want to go and get them. Assuming you can find them. Green chests are always hidden and out of the way. The only thing I don't like so far is how long it takes you to upload each episode these days. If you could upload Ni No Kuni more often that would be great.
i love this series! i will say however, that i realize boss battles usually take a few tries & that's fine. But if we're only gonna see one of the tries, i would prefer to see the last attempt & not the first.
You have to fight shadar until his health is half way down. He then uses a storm spell on you which will cause you to black out and become shiprecked on an island. Hope this helps!
Martyn, I'd recommend you have an episode, probably heavily-edited, all to do with completing spare sidequests to get some Merit Awards, they're all very handy to have.
Right before you reach the island, Shadar fights you. You have to knock him out to half health only though. But once you get close, I'd suggest saving.
I think Purrcy the Cutpurse might be a good matchup with Swaine. Also, keep an eye out for pistol recipes. Their upgraded weapons for Swaine. Also, don't forget to look through the Alchemy chapter in your Wizard's Companion every once in a while. You should also Metamorphose any Familiar you can & grind for a bit before setting off for the next part of the main storyline. Other than that, HAVE FUN!! :D

i forgot to mention later you have a chance to abandon drippy and if you do he will run back to you when you get on the ship again and learn a attack and there's also a awesome cutscene
Can you actually do that? In my experience the "!" marks only appear when you're in the proper spot for the green chests and you can't just swap out to Swaine any time you like.
Martyn when you get to Hamilen Strippy will become pretty much useless at fighting, but don't worry later on there will be a ice- type boss fight and if you equip Strippy with fire based weapons he'll become useful once more.
You should probably switch around familiars Martyn. Also, you should know that if Esther is down, you can use healing touch to bring her back I believe.

I know. Once this happened: I played about 2 hours, boss battle, died a couple times, game froze, had to start where I last saved. Game is Kingdom Hearts 2. So yeah, I think saving is helpful.

get two iced coffies and one spring water and add it in the cauldron to make strogn coffe make a couple coz its cheaper than uying it in the store and stock up on healing items you'll need em and you will love the next area. Like So He Can See!

It so good at voice acting, you can do the crazy Scottish fairy, and the pre pubesent kid, and even martyn littlewood!, love the series keep it up!

heal Esther whenever you can, you can still heal your other people with healing touch and provisions even when their dead

Capitalize the first letter of proper nouns and don't use caps lock.
