Every kid under 25 in the culture wants to look like Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Lil Baby or Tyler the Creator. A ton of aspiring rappers wanna sound like Lil Baby, Youngboy, Carti, Uzi or Yatchy. There are definitely new artists in rap that have major influence on the culture
Yall was moving the goal post.. Tamira was on point this episode. Great episode. Ray/Tamira I love the podcast. Also lottery was on exclusive Sammie. (One of my fav deep cuts from CB.)
RnB is what it is rn because all the singers sing like rappers. We listening to generations of people that grew with rap as the predominant genre. If you play a lot of rnb songs now and in the last 10-13 years, a lot of them are basically penning raps and singing them. The entire style and choice of words is very rap-influenced. Some of the first singers I noticed making these changes were Early Jhene Aiko, Partynextdoor, Earlier / soundcloud era Kehlani, even SZA a bit later. I feel like if Jhene Aiko doesn’t blow up the way she did, the entire rnb landscape through the 2010’s looks and sounds very different
The male host is so self-centered and self-absorbed that he doesn't realize his opinion is not in line with what the audience wants and it's sabotaging what's left of R&B. I don't remember everything I want to refute but 1) I don't know what planet he's living on that suggests women want "thugs" and would rather have men sing filthy lyrics over a love song. There can and should be both, but there's absolutely no balance today, especially from male artists, and sexual really doesn't have to mean crass. 2) No, you really don't have to have vocalists "pull back" on a song. The industry needs actual singers who CAN belt. There's a reason why Muni Long had such success with Hours & Hours. It's proper R&B, and when she performs live her mic is on and she sounds great. She's much more of the traditional artist the industry is lacking right now. 3) R&B is clearly not made for men and you all contradicted yourselves throughout the conversation. You all don't even support women artists who DRIVE this genre, so how and why would you even be a factor as a consumer?
Tamira delivering facts this episode.
