    • @HardePeople

      Hamilton Khaki field auto/mechanical

      Seiko Baby Turtle. If it has to be Swiss, maybe Tissot PRX quartz. But if you have small wrists because of your age i would recommend the 35mm version. If german is your thing Laco Augsburg 39.

      Have a look at something like a Seiko Supercars.... fun, comes with 2 different straps and nice presentation/a limited run. Id second many other Seiko's or Hamiltons, but in my teens something with a bit of colour and multi purpose was fun, you may not need to be looking at dress watches yet, have a look under Dive, Sports and field instead

    • @stephenw1799
      @stephenw1799 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Glycine would by my pick, something different than the usual Seiko's and Hamiltons. They use Sellita and ETA movements. They also feel better made than Seiko's and more expensive Hamilton's. They can also be picked up much lower than their retail prices from non AD's online.

    I recently acquired a vintage Cosmonaute Navitimer that hails from the same year as my birth, that being 1965, which was only 2 years after Scott Carpenter completed his mission. I love the history, the science behind it and the piece itself. It's great to see this release as it will no doubt generate more interest in the model and quite possibly raise the value of my watch- not that I am ever selling it. It is an outstanding piece that is the same age as I am and THAT is for me a priceless connection with this important piece of horological history. Thank you so much for sharing this video!

  • @eduardontt

    I love 24 h watches. Having a Russian sturmanskie, a Swedish akerfalk, and a Swiss glycine airman, this launch was significant and I really hope it will have a regular version because the pricetag was beyond reasonable for me. Thanks for the presentation.

    *Spectacular* timepiece.

      Whilst I get what you're saying Mike I don't necessarily agree. I'm not saying this is the *best* story, simply one of the *many* legendary and unbeatable, unsurpassable stories.
      Yep, Apollo 13 is *another* unbeatable story. There are *loads* of unbeatable stories about the pioneering Cosmo/Astronauts, like Voshkod-2 having a mini, albeit slightly less dramatic 'Apollo 13" situation of it's own. And this is *after* Alexei Leonov's (first ever) EVA almost ended very badly.
      I see all of these guys stories; Ed White, Dave Scott, Yuri Gagarin etc,. etc. as being incredible and unique & I love that we attach watches to them, like Hilary, Norgay & Everset or Aldrin & the Moon. These stories are a big part this hobby for me and trying to rank them is like picking your favourite kid!
      Cheers mate.

    • @Iexpedite1
      @Iexpedite1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with Mike. The watch was “found in a drawer” because it’s an embarrassment, not a triumph. It’s great that they went to space, but they dropped the ball when they got in the game.

      @anthonysmith2982 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Iexpedite1
      Come on... In fairness to the Cosmanaute it spent a few hours in the ocean & was never disassembled, cleaned, re-lubed & re-assembled. Almost *every* chronograph of the era - Speedmaster included - would look exactly the same today if it was treated like that & left in a drawer to rot for 50+ years!

    Thank you for the video. I have been collecting for a couple years now, and the Breitling Navitimer just hit my radar. I like the Space history of the watch, but I like the utility of the dial the most. Most people don't know what all the numbers on the dial are used for, and this should be explained better by the company. Breitling is on the right track, and needs to advertise more and tell their story to new collectors like me. Great video!

    • @simonrano8072
      @simonrano8072 ปีที่แล้ว

      The speedie is iconic because of why it was worn, the Daytona is only iconic because of by whom it was worn, and now only because of its pricetag...

    It is surprisingly easy to get used to a 24-hour dial. I have one on an old Raketa that also has a second time zone bezel. It might actually be my favorite “GMT” implementation, honestly. Set the watch itself to UTC and use the bezel to show local time. When you need a different local time, rotate the bezel. Unambiguous 24-hour time, no problem.
    Kind of wish Breitling would at least match the Speedmaster’s 50m WR rating.

      Although what became known as the Seiko "Pogue" was used by 3 astronauts in NASA training, it was only used during the 84 days long Skylab-4 space station mission between November 1973 and February 1974.
      NASA forgot about Charles Conrad Glycine Airman automatic pilot watch, used during Gemini V and Gemini XI, not only the first automatic wrist watch in space, but also the first automatic watch to be exposed to outer space on Gemini XI.
      Astronaut Thomas Stafford offered a Movado DataChron automatic chronograph to US Marine Corps astronaut Gerald Carr, who snuck it into space during that same Skylab-4 space station mission. So both Movado & Seiko had the first automatic chronograph in space, both working flawlessly.
      Between 1971 and 1981, Apollo 15 astronaut James Irwin was often photographed wearing a Seiko chronograph. Photos on MoonwatchUniverse Archive ! 🧐

    Very cool video! Very nice watch :)
    However, Carpenter wasn't the first (american) man in space, it was Shepard. And for the watches, the first two astronauts did not wear any watch (apparently) but Glenn wore a Heuer stopwatch with a band in the mission before Carpenter :) so it's not really the first Swiss watch in space 👍

    Maybe Omega dominates the whole ”space story”… but Accutron was the real dominant force in space. Bulova has a story too. But Accutron was everywhere in the space industry. On almost EVERY flight.
    Breitling has made another pretty watch.

    I think as a limited edition it isn't an attack on omega unless the release a production version

    What might you need an ND filter for when you’re going to an indoors event and an airport??

    10k chf for a platinum watch?
    I love the purpose, the movement decoration, I’m a huge space fan, would love to own this. Congrats to those who get one. 🍻

    Nice video, looks like a good day out ! Great looking watch and piece of history.
    Slight historical error, you said he was chosen as the first man in space. he wasn't, he was the sixth man in space, the first American.

    Wait, are you saying that Omega watches went into space? Never heard of such a thing. Sounds implausible to me.

    I used to have a '68 AOPA dialled Navitimer 809, as part of my Space watch collection. Horrible watch because of the ultra busy dial! I wore it a few times whilst flying (PPA) and it was useless. an old Army Precista Stopwatch and a basic easy to read Seamaster (or indeed any simple analogue watch) were perfect for flying.
    And as far as 24 hour dials go, give me the (also space flown) Glycine Airman any day of the week!
