In my AU for the Nara Family Shikaku was there for Shikamaru more than in the show. He loved spending time with him.
Shikamaru's mom was the scary one in the family. She was the one who got mad at him for grades and all. But she of course was caring when need be.
Shikamaru is still as lazy as ever but he's grown a tolerance to cleaning because that's his punishment for sleeping in school.

Video Explained: Shika's Mom came home from having a girls day. Shikamaru was interested what makeup looked like on someone.
Shikaku sighed and allowed him to test it on him. As long as he had it removed before his mom got home.
Well like you see in the video. He did not remove it in time.
