OMG. I've been watching MST3K since the mid-90s... and I've never seen any of the KTMA stuff. To see such primitive versions of Crow and Gypsy is truly mind-boggling. The evolution from then to now is just... stunning.
MY IDEA FOR A WEIRD HEADCANON AU FANTASY: In an alternate universe, there's a version of Joel that's "SILENT RUNNING"-style space hippie botanist who also makes fun of bad movies. He often hangs out with the handsome but bumbling lonely Russian Cosmonaut, Sari Andropoli (Mike Nelson in the 'Rocket Attack USA' episode), who also is in a similar situation with bots of his own. I may "ship" them. Sexy weird boys being sexy together! Space-Hippie Joel has a twin brother, "Agent-J", who's a weird freelance Secret Agent/Illusionist/Spy who's gadgets are all gags and toys. Ooh! Fan-fic fuel! I must develop this idea! THE ALTERNATE JOELIE-VERSE!

This is fun, but jesus christ listening to him eat makes me want to send him hate mail. It's like "hey, wanna hear my impression of a cow while I simultaneously irritate you by letting you listen to my hand, nails, coat sleeves, and mic scrape around in my bag/bucket?!" Clips of him eating popcorn alone could be used as torture devices in situations to get information out of people.

If I remember correctly, they would film the theater and Gizmonics segments in the KTMA studio and then have to clear out for the pro wrestling show.
