JJ should know the rules as captain. He asked for the cue ball to be cleaned, to gain extra time to calm his nerves...a pity as this was an epic game up until that point.
He asked for the cue ball to be cleaned because it was the type of shot that could skid, not to game the time clock. Regardless, he should have known that the clock doesn’t stop for a ball cleaning.
He asked for the cue ball to be cleaned because there were chalk marks on the ball where he needed to hit it. The ball get extremely dirty with these new chalks and after a 20 min game it will be covered in chalk and the risk of a skid or something becomes very high. So that's why he asked, not because he needed more time that's ridiculous and honestly just stupid
@@fabbricatopersonareale The shot clock doesn't stop, when the cue ball is being cleaned. Stupid rule or not? Know the rules, especially as captain and representing your country.

He did let the reveree clean the ball to saddle down. This is the rule for so you can not abuse it like he did ! And a captain is supposed to know the rules. When i know it how can he not??
For him to be the coach of the team, there is no excuse for that error. You may have lost the whole tournament for that. If you don’t know the rules why the hell are you coaching or team leader.
There's no way JJ doesn't know about the rules. He has been Playing Mosconi 7 times and also several times as USA captain. And i'm sure he's watching thousand matches with shot clock rules too. Total drama.
First, Alcaide is a class act for how he handled the ending. I think the rule is good because players can use it as a timeout, BUT it needs to be changed to say you can't ask for a ball cleaning with under 15 seconds left in the shot clock. I can easily foresee controversy where a player accuses a ref of taking too much time cleaning the ball and intentionally running the clock out on the player. So,give the ref 8 seconds to clean the ball but must start before the 15 second mark. Otherwise, play on.
JJ is a champ all the way 9 ball, one pocket whatever you wanna play... He could sit on the couch for years come out and beat the best... So much big time experience gambling, tournament play all of it!
JJ should've known the rules, no question about that. However, by the time the ref finished cleaning the cueball and left the table, only 3 seconds were left on the clock. No one can approach a table and make a shot in 3 seconds. The referee knew that honoring JJ's request would imminently result in a foul. For this reason I believe the referee should have denied the request to clean the cueball.
The referee isn't there to make sure what's best for you. His job is to enforce the rules of the game. Thus any player who requests to clean the ball he must do it. THAT"S HIS JOB.
If that were so, the referee should've also told Kaci that he was going to make a second consecutive shot in the doubles match... It's a shame, but the ref is only there to enforce the rules as they are.
@@yanf3949 rubbish so the other day are you saying that the ref should have warned team Europe that the wrong player was about to take the shot? He is there to enforce the rules nothing else. It’s the players right to have the cue ball cleaned at anytime and the ref should honour the players wish if the request is in the letter of the rules.
@@Dean256 Not saying that at all. Do you see a difference between referee simply observing and calling a foul and him taking an action that would imminently result in a foul?
It is a shame there is no sound for a period at the end... Would have been good to hear the commentators and also maybe catch something the players said to Jeremy and each other..
Agreed and all in the name of an ill-conceived shot clock rule that SHOULD have concession, at the referee's discretion, for unusual circumstances. Marvel's blissful adherence to a damn rule literally cost the loss of a hard earned frame and match. Just stupid. Marcel could have said "not time, shoot" but even that seems ridiculous. Pool will NEVER experience the recognition of snooker so long as players are forced to shoot quick. It should not be a race. It should be a game won by skill. Once again, the world of business and promotion have taken over and bastardize the true essence of the game. "We'll promote it but it will have to be our way - you will all have to shoot within a time window so yeah - one size fits all bitches" Sometimes.......just NO!
so, if players want more time they just have to ask for the ball to be cleaned? then ask for it again, as they see another dirty spot? where should be the point at which this would be considered abuse in your opinion? youre just shouting "i was over the line just a tiny bit" which is fine playing against friends, but if ref stops the clock here, we can all just pack up and go home.
I'm a fast shooter, probably faster than Earl. But unlike Earl, I don't think there should be a shot clock. No shot clock in snooker, golf, bowling, etc. JJ messed up. It's still a very disappointing way to lose. I dont mind when I'm beaten. Can't stand when it's my fault I lost.
The ref did clean the cue-ball as quickly as possible. If they went over the rules in detail it's a senior moment for JJ but it's pretty lame to celebrate it.
@@eightyeight3594 different things. You can watch anytime when they ask for the cueball to be cleaned and the clock won't stop. When there's an outside element interrupting the game, the clock stops.
exactly.. if the ref had done anything other than quickly comply to the request he could be blamed for that.. its not the ref's job to understand what players think or may have forgotten.
I like how my man here thought if anyone needed to tie his shoes, have his his cue-ball cleaned, change underpants or go buy some candy they would have to stop the clock.
First, as the ref says, the rules are stated each day. No excuses and noone should feel bad for JJ, as there were no excuses and noone felt bad for the Kaci order foul (called by the same ref). Second, the Mosconi has always been noted for its fan involvement (when played on either side of the pond), which is why it is the most watched 9ft event BY FAR. American snootiness about the game has led it nowhere, we need it to be more like darts than snooker if it is to really pick up and get these players really paid.
He clearly thought he had an extension left.. you can hear him ask for it and the usual high pitch screaming from the audience who also forgot that he already used his extension .. Contrary to almost everyone else, I dont think this match was ended unnaturally .. this is exactly how all long safety battles end .. someone looses his nerve and make a mistake.. it just didnt manifest in a bad shot but in JJ being caught in the moment and forgetting he already used his extension.. this is why players with more recent experience (and not from 13 years ago) ask the ref if they still got an extension. He even had time to quickly make some sort of a legal shot.. but instead entered the disputing mode, as a result from being generally frustrated from the 4 previous matches going Europe's way. I dont like matchroom very much, but they did nothing wrong here.. and neither did the ref's. And even JJ actually handled it somewhat well, under the circumstances.
I agree, but I’d add that it really tried to manifest itself in a bad shot. JJ was up against the clock and his nerve in that last rack, and the double kiss/near scratch on the 1ball was where he really tried to give it away. That stroke was horrible, pure anxiety. I feel bad for him as a person, but as the team captain, this isn’t supposed to be able to happen to him.
He got caught trying to circumvent the rules. He knew he didn't have an extension, so he asked for the cue ball to be cleaned believing the clock would be stopped. This would give him more time to think about his shot, just like an extension.
JJ still has game!! his safety and tactical play was clearly a level better than Alcaide. So unfortunate at the end, but these things happen, even to the best i guess??
Things like this make us question the validity of having a shot clock in the first place, I think it taints the essence of what billiards is all about, a thinking game. I think these players are so good that most of the time they don't need to take more than 20 seconds to figure out a shot, but those one off times where a player has to take their time a bit is for me entertaining aswell, I like putting myself in the players shoes and thinking what I would do in the situation, and then seeing the outcome, that's what makes snooker enjoyable for me to watch, it's just like watching a game of chess.
El juego fué muy tecnico con mucha estratégia y ambos lo hicieron muy bien, en cuanto a las normas yo creo que el arbitro debió advertirle a JJ que no habia tiempo para limpiar la bola ya que el tiempo se estaba acabando...
He didn't loose his cool. Just made an error. It's not like he acted out or was having a rage attack. He was composed but disappointed...as we all would be.
I didn't see it, but a friend of mine said that earlier, a European player asked to have the ball cleaned and they stopped the clock during the cleaning. That may have caused confusion.
I know it would have been a tough decision, the European team should’ve taken an intentional time foul and give the shot back to JJ. The match was a classic and that gentleman move would have made it everlasting.
The ref did his best to clean the ball as quick as possible. He is a Pro but I see this as nerves kicking in in high stake hill hill game....Had Jones not Time Fouled in that, the game should be done by Jones
So......I hear a lot of praises on how the Europeans felt bad for Jones. The thing I want to know is.......WHAT IS THE OFFICIAL RULE ON STOPPING THE TIME CLOCK WHEN THE SHOOTER ASKS THE CUE BALL TO BE CLEANED???
He rly gonna regret that ball cleanin.. he prolly was after like " why i clean that ball when it was already perfect" its mental thing to some players clean ball before important run
Referee should not have allowed a cleaning of the ball ,especially knowing time was so short ,Mr Jones should have been notified of just that , Referee’s make bad calls also, but to let the clock run out is of poor quality and lack of thought by this committee . i am glad it was jeremy . if it was earl it would have been pandemonium
Classy touch by the european team to go over to Jeremy afterwards
The captain has to know all rules forwards and backwards
Agree
Agreed. I was very disappointed. I couldn't understand WHY would he even asked to have the cue ball cleaned when they have been playing with it like that the entire match and for him to think that the clock would stop in my opinion is rediculous. I'm not a professional pool player but common sense tells me that it won't, SPECIALLY when you are hearing the beeping of the clock on its final seconds. He could have yield EXTENSION but he thought he was Royal or something special that the clock would stop for him.🙄
Honestly it wouldn't made a difference the Europeans were playing a lot better.
@@MrElPoderozo1 He already used his extension for this match didn’t he?
@@lokekennee8850 For some reason he thought that if he asked to get the cue ball cleaned the clock would stop, even tho you can hear the last few seconds letting you know the time is about to expire. I was like wtf! Why was it so important for the cue ball to be clean and ☝🏽 why didn't he called extension when the clock was beeping?😳
Them boys in Europe are no joke and if our boys are going to play like this they shoul not go at all. This was embarrassing in my opinion. He is the captain for goodness sake!😳
@@MrElPoderozo1 I just saw, at that point he already used his extension for the last match, so he couldn’t have afforded to ask that, ya it wasn’t the smartest decision but still I feel sad for him tho.
That was almost as bad as the Kaci-Ouschan mixup. That's a noob foul.
JJ came into the tournament expecting to be the guy that watches and pays attention to the overall picture and keeps track of details like shot clock rules. Ended up playing in about the highest pressure situation and performs brilliantly as a player but loses because he couldn’t be coach too.
that's what I was thinking as well. Foreign country, hooligan crowd, 4 inch pockets, cameras...Jeremy has done great. Respect.

He commentates most major usa tournaments and he was on the mosconi team way back in the days

Don’t worry, there was a decade there where we liked it that way.. lol.. Made a lot of money..
Jeremy has won 10-12 pro tournaments over the years, and has about as many runner up finishes..
First guy to win both the US Open One Pocket and US Open 9-ball titles.. And I believe only Efren and Shane have accomplished that particular double, since..
Poor him, JJ has a perfect match againist DA, but one small mistake changes everything 😢, nice to see Europe's player go to JJ, much respect. Good luck USA and congratulation Europe.
the mistake is the rules being terrible
Yep, we'll never know what went through his head but I bet JJ was trying to win extra time in a heated moment and outsmarted himself.

Hats off to the ref who cleaned the ball as quickly as possible, that would of had triggered my mind that I was running out of time since the buzzing seconds wouldn't stop.
Additionally, come on, you play for a living and eat sleep and smell pool, unlucky but JJ deserves what he got.
Having the cue ball cleaned was totally unnecessary.
Unlucky jj we all make mistakes even at the worse of times, just wish people would stop coming at him for it
They shouldn't, especially when Jones was USA's best player that day! Jones fought tooth and nail for every shot and didn't take anything for granted! It was a great effort! And it showed when everyone from the European team came at the end to comfort him!
Everybody is perfect these days, and they have never been wrong their entire lives.. Didn’t you get the email?!..
I could personally never win like that. I would rather lose. The issue is in a team format, you can't let your teammates down, so I don't fault David. It is a difference of $15,000 per player. That's not nothing.
I understand, but at the same time, Alcaide did nothing wrong! I mean the shotclock is there for a reason!
JJ made a huge error, that's his fault no one else's. He clearly thought he could buy some time having the ball cleaned to compose himself and it cost him dearly. I'd happily take a rack off someone who's made a clear and obvious error, it's no different to missing a pot.

@@donovanpeterson837 it's not for the ref to explain or advise before every shot. That is down the the player themselves. And tbh it's not the refs problem, it's the players. JJ is the only person to blame, he clearly didn't know the rule.
@@strongteee rules clarifications are definitely the job of the ref, and he dropped the ball big time here.
Imagine if that was Earl on JJ's shoes. It would have been World War III.
Earl would just talk. Jeremy might take action. Earl has shown he wants no part of Jeremy.
Excellent sportsmanship at the end. Regardless of who wins
Alcaide was a gentlemen and good competitor. Didn't want the crowd to scream and comforted his opponent
Total drama.
thank god wasnt Earl in JJ's shoes... imagine the show!
Earl shoots way too fast to have a shock clock ever even come into the equation.
@@chili015 Earl wants a 20second shot clock. No way he'd be caught out. I don't think I've ever seen him ask for a ball to be cleaned either

😂😂😂 would have been the greatest meltdown in Mosconi cup history. What a Legend.
The biggest blunder since game 9 of the World Chess Championship. Shocking.
Pawn to b5.
What psychological warfare on that felt. Brilliant match.
JJ is a champ all the way 9 ball, one pocket whatever you wanna play... He could sit on the couch for years come out and beat the best... So much big time experience gambling, tournament play all of it!
Jeremy Jones is awesome, Really sad he lost this way, after such an amzing safty battle against David. Love both players ♥
@@moegreen6566 the referee isn't there to take an action that would imminently result in a foul.
Pool rules vary depending on the tournament. This should be revised and just have one set of rules for all tourneys.
It is a shame there is no sound for a period at the end... Would have been good to hear the commentators and also maybe catch something the players said to Jeremy and each other..
Thanks matchroom for the wonderful match
That has got to be the most disappointing thing I've ever seen in my life. Fantastic match.
WTF??
Can't stand when it's my fault I lost.

my heart was pounding the entire way
That's the beauty of pool. A combination of mind game and skills.
To be honest he must have known the rules he’s been playing for years, just the pressure of the game got to him
First, as the ref says, the rules are stated each day. American snootiness about the game has led it nowhere, we need it to be more like darts than snooker if it is to really pick up and get these players really paid.
i'm now on a Mosconi cup binge and I have work tonight. Thanks YT
I couldnt believe that he asked for to clean the cue ball X.X
JJ: greenhorn failer - learning the rules - what's else. The teamleader doesn't know the rules? Shame...
HE IS A COACH !!!!!!!
how often do you see a 17 minute rack of 9 ball? Even in a pub, let alone on professional level?
Seems J J was just being an American!! 🤣
Jones made a tactical mistake. It’s his fault not knowing the rules.
Just wondering whats the longest time in one rack of 9 ball pool
NOPE SORRY THE CLOCK DOES NOT STOP FOR BALL TO BE CLEANED
@@tonym2513 yes, lady luck came to the rescue a couple of times when the technically bad shots normally would have ended the safety battle.
Very well said. He had about 4 seconds to make some sorta legal shot but he decided to use that time for dispute.

I never heard the warning horn. Did they turn it off?
The 8 6 kick shot had to of been a foul
He got caught trying to circumvent the rules.
He knew he didn't have an extension, so he asked for the cue ball to be cleaned believing the clock would be stopped.
This would give him more time to think about his shot, just like an extension.
JJ still has game!! his safety and tactical play was clearly a level better than Alcaide. So unfortunate at the end, but these things happen, even to the best i guess??
This crowd sounds like the crowd at the trial in the pilot episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation (Encounter at Farpoint).
Yeah, I'm all for encouraging a decent rate of play but the shot clock should keep the game moving not determine the outcome.
it didn't really determine the outcome though, it was crazy for Jones to think he could get free extensions by getting the cue ball cleaned
After that, this should be the last Mosconi cup.
El juego fué muy tecnico con mucha estratégia y ambos lo hicieron muy bien, en cuanto a las normas yo creo que el arbitro debió advertirle a JJ que no habia tiempo para limpiar la bola ya que el tiempo se estaba acabando...
Marcel said "10 seconds" when he was cleaning the ball
I think the ref shud've rejected the request to clean the ball and explained it to JJ very quickly as it is very crucial time.
Jones lost his cool under pressure, cant make mistake like that.
Do they play on 9 foot or 7 foot tables?
He rly gonna regret that ball cleanin.. he prolly was after like " why i clean that ball when it was already perfect" its mental thing to some players clean ball before important run
Wow.....that's a brutal break. It should be a given you're taking an extension if you ask for a ball to be cleaned.
Referee should not have allowed a cleaning of the ball ,especially knowing time was so short ,Mr Jones should have been notified of just that , Referee’s make bad calls also, but to let the clock run out is of poor quality and lack of thought by this committee . Lots of other avenues should have been fallowed , I really feel bad for all concerned .
No excuse for JJ not knowing the rules. He is the captain of the team.
