Beautifully played, I just received mine 8 days ago and I am astounded by the craftsmanship. It is an amazing instrument I’m 68 started playing at 12 so I’ve played and owned a few great guitars in my time and this guitar is overall the best guitar I now own. Please do a deeper dive at some point unless you already have.
I have a Yairi DYMR70SB, it's this same model, but completely hand made in Kani, in the hills north of Nagoya Japan , at Yairi's shop. It's made with East Indian rosewood that has been aged for 15 years, before being used. It is a 12 fret, with ebony bridge pins, ebony(Direct Coupled) bridge, ebony fretboard, and Gotoh 510 open gear tuners, with ebony buttons and a slotted headstock. I've owned A LOT of high end acoustic guitars. THIS guitar is my number 1 acoustic. The tone, the overtones, the projection, the balance and the sustain, the note separation, are better then ANY other guitar I've ever played or owned.
That opening drop-d piece was beautiful, the peaceful sigh at the end was exactly how I was feeling. I found this because I'm looking at this guitar and the DYMR70SB Alvarez Yairi version of it and trying to decide if the Yairi is worth 3 times the price. The jury is still out, but after listening to your video, I'm leaning toward the MDR70SB.
Hi Ben, I love listening to your playing. I drove up from Cornwall to buy this guitar on Thursday. I am absolutely thrilled with the tone of this guitar. My favorite guitar is my Yamaha A3R. I have a bad shoulder to I tend to play my Yamaha CSF3M most of the time. This is so comfortable to play and I have to admit that I prefer the tone of this guitar over my Yamaha, which I never thought I would do. I bought this on the strength of you playing on the Anderton TH-cam, so I'm sorry I didn't use your link. Kind regards Terry. You're a great player. 👍
I'm aching to get one of these also and this vid probably pushed me over the edge. Unfortunately I cannot try first hand and would like to compare this to the 14 fret dreadnought version. But the gas for this particular one is great. I just may pull the trigger.
@@powell.christopher It's a great Dreadnaught for sure! This is probably my favourite of their range, apart from possibly the more expensive Laureate range, but it's close. ;-)
Picked up my first Alvarez a few weeks ago, an early 2000's MD350C. Utterly fantastic. Beautiful guitar and exceptional value. Absolutely love the look of this one too. Sounds lovely.
You are an excellent player! Very nice touch! Takes years of practice to get that feel. Tough to beat the value of an Alvarez guitar. Lots of tone and quality for the money.
I bought one and I love it. although primarily an electric player I pick mine up several times everyday. it allows me to make music that gives my heart a bit of a cuddle 🤓
Love your playing! And the guitar sounds awesome. I’m really considering buying it as my main dreadnought. I’m just a bit concerned about the v shape neck, i use to have an OM Alvarez and I remember really being put off by the neck size and shape
Hi Ben, How's the string tension? I'm eyeing one and I play a lot of fills that reuire bends. Looks a little stiff, but hard to tell just watching you play it.
Thanks! The thing that makes the biggest difference with comfort is the 12th fret neck join, as it brings the fretboard a little further into the body, so it's not so much of a stretch!
Oh no!!! Another demo of an Alvarez guitar done in open tuning. Drop D, this time... Doesn't anyone play these in standard tuning? ANY guitar sounds better in open tuning. I guess I didn't wait long enough. Did you notice the difference?
Yes, any guitar sounds better in open tuning, or with a capo up the neck. It's hard to take any such "demo" of the particular guitar seriously - unless you are looking for a guitar to use in that same open tuning.
I play mine in standard tuning and in open tunings. Sounds pretty great. Yes it’s not an over priced Martin or Taylor which I’ve had, but it is a very nice sounding guitar.
Usually, Alvarez guitars with a "Y" in the name are Yairi. Those are handmade in Japan, no compromise. This one, MDR70SB, is made in China/Indonesia. Hope that helps!
Nice video Ben, great sounding guitar. I just picked up a second-hand Alvarez Blues51 12-fret, which would be the parlor version of this, albeit with laminate rosewood back and sides. Been looking for one for ages. Would love a Martin 00-15sm 12-fret but bloody hell they're pricey! Nice Auden guitar btw too
I gave mine to my son-in-law. It was my way of expressing gratitude for being a 💯 good dad to my grandchildren.

Seen you on Andertons...love your passion as you play..very nice bro

Too bad the new ones have risen substantially in price.

HI Terry, Thanks for the kind words, and I hope you enjoy playing your new guitar! They age well.. 🙂

Thanks!
Thanks Ken! 🙂
Great Guitar, I could listen to you play that guitar all day long.
Beautiful! The sound 👍
12 frets sound so good. I like this guitar it's very crisp and balanced. I just ordered an AP66shb but would love this to go along with it.
That was a beautiful piece of music brother!
I like this guitar. You made it sound fantastic.
Truly inspired
Great video Ben! Lovely sounding guitar
Thanks!
Stunner guitar❤
I have the Alvarez ARDA Anniversary Model Slope Shoulder and love it.
What does slope shoulder mean?
@@stillnupey02 More rounded top instead of the normal square shoulder dreadnaught shape
You are an excellent player! Very nice touch! Takes years of practice to get that feel. Tough to beat the value of an Alvarez guitar. Lots of tone and quality for the money.
Absolutely beautiful guitar and playing.

Great opening piece Ben. Could you give me an idea of he chords used please so I could give it a go? Cheers.
It's in Drop D, going between D and G for the most part, then to A occasionally. Enjoy!
Hi Ben, How's the string tension? I'm eyeing one and I play a lot of fills that reuire bends. Looks a little stiff, but hard to tell just watching you play it.
Ive been thinking about purchasing thid guitar...have you kept this obe?
Open G open C n D delightful loud guitar clear as a bell for £599 uk with pickup
Hay Yo your the Andertons guy!
Nice to see and hear you in an “informal” setting, Ben. Is the slope shoulder more comfortable, than a normal dreadnought?

Lovely guitar.. I am seeing these for under a grand on Reverb too.
I'm pretty sure the retail price is around £800

dymr70sb - is the Japanese made one or their newer one from China ?

@@deejay.sIt sound amazing. Wonder if it’s from same wood collection in Japan ?
I don’t know why Alvarez doesn’t get enough love like a Martin or Taylor in my opinion they are just as good or even better in some cases
If i could learn half what you know about playing..it would be amazinh😊😊😊😊
Is this body the same size about like a j45
It is very similar
I am trying to find a guitar equal to my 78 Yamaha Fg 180 for sound. Is this beautiful guitar up to the tasks😏

Thanks, this Alvarez is great, and that little Auden has been #1 for about 5 years now, and it's like a comfortable pair of jeans now. 😁
