Sir John Seymour was a randy old goat. He carried on an affair with his oldest son Edward’s wife starting right after the honeymoon. When Edward, Lady Seymour and the rest of the family found out about their affair the wife was sent off to a convent, the marriage annulled, the children were taken out of Edward’s care because he couldn’t be sure that they were his, and Sir John no longer showed his face at court. If the family hadn’t acted so quickly and discreetly there would’ve been a huge scandal about King Henry VIII marrying the daughter of such a man and also that Edward Seymour was the Lord Protector of King Edward VI the son of his sister Jane and Henry.
