I'm glad you enjoyed it. You're correct. Andy Hug is a heavyweight who fought in K1. He's from Switzerland.
The truth is that Andy Hug is not as great as some of the other fighters you've reacted to like Petrosyan, Buakaw, Masato, Souwer, Hari, etc. His record was 37 wins, 9 losses. He did win one K1 tournament, in 1996, which is a hell of an achievement.
But he was one of the most unique fighters I've ever seen in any combat sport. Where do you see fighters throwing spinning hook kicks to the knee or the thigh? How often do you see a fighter who throw an axe kick effectively in a real fight, yet alone make it a staple in their game? He had beautiful spinning backfists and wheel kicks as well. And despite his crazy unorthodox style, he could still revert to more classical karate techniques when he needed to like roundhouse kicks to the head and body, legs kicks, etc.
It's a sad story. He was still fighting in his mid 30s and he started to get very sick. He knew something was wrong, but he chose to keep fighting. Soon after, he was diagnosed with leukemia and died. I obviously didn't know the man but from everything I've heard about him, he was a really good person and his loss really shattered the kickboxing world for a while.
