I'd be happier if he'd just say vinyl sounds better...
best shirt of them all
great review ! I enjoyed your comparison to Pass gear and from my experience with both I find the Lux to be more fluid , to use one word , or less restrained as you said.
Great review (as always), i am on the verge of buying this amp, would this match well with a proac speaker? What other brands would be a great match?
Love your shirt (and your review)!🎵
Terrific episode. Vivid description. 👍
My lord that is pretty
Even though it's not my price class at all, I loved your review on this amp. Thank you, Steve. And thank you for mentioning Nils Frahm. One more reason to relisten his music. Best regards from Germany!
They make less expensive amps, like my L505ux (now the L505uxIi). It's a wonderful amp, and if I ever upgrade it will be to another Luxman.
I just got the Technics 1500c and I absolutely love it. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it.
Talk about sycophantic... what if he says it stinks? Will you suddenly stop enjoying it and let a reviewer convince you it isnt good enough for you? The fact you are so keen (cannot wait even) to hear about a product youve already bought tells me you have your doubts about it anyway!
@@tomwebb7091 He did infact, think it stinks. My life is over Tom. Thanks. You got me my number. You're so smart.
I love my Luxman L505ux
Yep me to ! Very happy with mine and especially thru my Wharfedale speakers
If it was in my budget I'd have one also. I am lucky enough to have an L550A II which is very nice.
Wow, you're a kindred spirit. Big into hi fi and we share a favorite movie of the current century. There Will Be Blood is an amazingly good movie, stellar acting with Daniel Day Lewis and Paul Dano, a sound track and cinematography to die for, and a compelling and profound exploration of religion and greed. Oh yeah I love class A sound as well, maybe I can afford the 590 version of the Luxman someday.
"There Will Be Blood" the film... absolutely epic. One of the finest, most viscerally powerful films I've seen in a long time.
I hadn't given the soundtrack much thought as it's own entity, but obviously it heightens the senses and punctuates the visuals quite well.
There will be blood if the wife finds out how much it cost.
Wow!
Love the retro style!
yes: loudness can fix up bad recording somewhat.very nice for low volume listening.
I had a chance to own a Luxman back in the late 70s. I passed it up. WHAT WAS I THINKING???
Cool..lovely way to start my day!
Steve I thought I detected a tremor in your voice at the end when you talked about parting with it. Maybe you have a few things to sell? I was certainly drooling.
I would love a review of the Luxman 505 or 507 if at all possible!
Agreed... really nice amplifiers.
If I had a spare $11,995 laying around, I can't think of a better thing to do with it.
Hookers?
And cocaine
Ho Lee sheet. It's beautiful. That nob!
Steve...you reviewed the D10x July/August of 2020...not this year as stated in your opening comments. I own the D10x and what a formidable player...Love it!!!
Thorens in Switzerland 1883
Thanks Steve
Thats a BMF !! Geez I love Luxmam
I wish you could get hold of the Arcam SA20....I love mine but it's just flown under the radar both sides of the pond
Great choice of music Steve. I saw Nils Frahm at the Barbican on his Encores tour and it was an emotional experience. the Luxman however is a pipe dream.
...only 300 units worldwide... surely that's not enough! I guess it's for the exclusiveness factor!
Sorry Steve I have to disagree with you that the turntable would be a "reasonable" match with this amplifier.
Why not use your SME?
Donald, here’s the thing, the SME table and arm sells for $21,500, and the Ortofon Cadenze blue is $2k. Not a real world match with the Luxman
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac Alright, I agree with that. I guess neither one of these tables would be a real world match with the Luxman.
If you were still working for Mr Singer which table would you try to sell to a customer that was purchasing the
Luxman
How much do you spend on a tuntable for a 12000$ integrated amplifier?
I have heard the argument that you should spend more on the source component.
@@donaldchisholm9931 I own the luxman L-509x with i presume the same phono stage built in as Steve's review model. My Michel gyro with a techno arm and dynavector 20x2L works wonderfully with the Luxman. One review claimed you would need to spending upwards of 2k on a Phonostage to better the inbuilt MC on the Luxman. I wanted to reduce boxes and sold my external Dynavector phono stage with out any regrets at all!
@@karltodd2518 Thanks !
@@karltodd2518 When using my low-output Linn Troika MC into my L-595AxII, there is a slight buzzy hum audible near the speakers at a normal listening volume setting. The exact same issue happened with my retired Yamaha A-S2000 integrated. No amount of cable re-routing or ground connections changed matters on either amp. Luckily, I had on old Denon MC SUT which, when used with the MM setting, was dead silent on both amps. I would be curious as to your experience with noise with your Dynavector/Luxman setup. Cheers!
Techniques. Many call them that. Some call them Technics. There is a Technics commercial on TH-cam, and in the commercial the company calls its products Technics, as in technical. Did Sound by Singer ever offered Technics? Just wondering. 🤔
No
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac Thank you!
@@SteveGuttenbergAudiophiliac I guess I may of come off as slightly rude. Well, the reason for that is I bought the Cambridge axa35 based on your review. You did mention that you thought one of the receivers didn't have the tone controls set to flat, but they were flat and you didn't mention which amp. Well, I'd bet it was the Cambridge. The highs are a little lifted in the 6 to 9k range. I noticed it immediately like you did. I ended up going through the process of sending it back and the place I bought delayed my refund for months. I had to get my credit card people involved and finally got the refund. Audiophiles are picky, I doubt you would have been able to live with that receiver either, even for secondary stereo system like I was going to use it as. I ended up getting my old 1985 Yamaha A-1020 Auto Class A amp repaired at 'Just Audio' in greater Baltimore Maryland. They fixed it! They replaced 7 output transistors and just 2 capacitors in the phono eq amp section. In a way I can thank you for my decision to get it repaired. I tried several under 1k receivers including the EMOTIVA TA2, but my Yamaha sounds best to me. ✌️
I’m all for setting new standards for knob-feel 😅👏
I have that Grateful Dead 1972 album very lightly listened to as I am not much of a Dead fan. Listened to all sides recently and it is good stuff as you say.
Still got my Luxman HX Pro cassette deck I purchased in 1990. It was the shop demo unit and half price since the new version had just been released. Luxman products are built to last-in this case probably Alpine so parts shouldn’t be an issue when it comes to needing renovation.
I had a very good experience with Nakamichi Tape deck Dragon wich was the most expensive Deck ever produced I had it for 10 years after that it needed some servive.Visit the Nakamichi service center in Singapore and after 2 days the called me and told me they replaced some item because of wear and tear and to my surprise charged me nothing.I guess the high selling price included future service cost. Even today spareparts still available certain companies take service serious.
@@rolandlickert2904 Back in 1971 IIRC I purchased Olympus’s first full-frame SLR (the FTL). I had a slight accident with the lens and Olympus replaced it free of charge. They even paid the freight!
Sintra Portugal is one of the beautiful place on earth!
My favorite Asian manufacturer by a country mile! 10K (pounds) puts it out of my reach but if I could I would!! :)
Wonderful video
For a significant upgrade on the turntable, change out the stylus to a 2M Black. Much higher quality sonics. But you have to get the alignment (especially azimuth) correct or it's sonics won't come through.
All true, I lived with the 2M Black for a good while and it needs meticulous care and attention to accurate / precise set up, slight tail down found the sweet spot i found. If it isnt properly dialed in it sounds shrill, pinched, nothing special, but once nailed it is excellent, detailed - lovely, horns parp beautifully, everything sounds right and you will know what the fuss is about this great cart. I'm now firmly an Ortofon mc man, Cadenza Black with Fritz Gyger S re-tip which is fabulous but the 2M Black brought me there.
must be good. never worked on one in my lifetime.
We all knew this was going to be good. We were just waiting for a review to confirm that. With this being said it should be good for this price.
Denon set up the equipment for the Emperor’s speech after the bomb
The Luxman sounds like a great amp. Pass Labs is one of the few solid state amps that consistently catch my attention. So it must be good if you see them as comparable.
Nice viewer system. Thanks viewer for sharing.
Luxman or Accuphase?
The Dead’s Europe 72 is a wonderful sounding album even though they added tons of studio overdubbed vocals guitars, drums etc. still one of their best ✌🏻
Other Than Workingman's Dead and American Beauty, It's my favorite Dead album.
The Dead are an acquired taste (I’m a head for 25 years, ironically since after Jerry died). They definitely were into experimenting with live recording. Europe 72 was recorded to 16 track. But It was mixed to death kind of….
11,000!!!!
Steve, what happened to the SME turntable?
Steve please review Gryphon integrated amplifiers.
Imagine once that amp is warmed in / broken in.....500 hours or so, the sound will be phenominal for sure.
Your right, but the sound on my internally identical L-595 was phenomenal after about an hour out of the box. Well-designed, stable circuits need little if any break-in. Just give these Class A beasts 10 minutes to come up to temperature 🤒.
I have a Carver amp and preamp that are on their last legs (I had them repaired a few years ago but no one near me has the skills to do so anymore). Are there any companies that produce separate or integrated amps that aren't above $800 and have at least 100 watts per channel?
Bang & Olufsen also 1925
Just ordered the 595 and d10x for the living room.
Did you get them yet? If so, how do you like them?
@@ramanmanan203 not yet. Apperently there is a stock problem.
Steve, what do you think of the L-505uXII? Or do you have a review in the works?
Made in japan, thats good news
