The top of my wish list in remastered games is taken by the original Empire Earth. It was a game with multiple resources needed to build things, unit cap was insanely high, maps and tech trees were massive, and action tended to be frantic and unforgiving, with waves and waves of relentless attacks. It was awesome. I've never seen a game like that again.
I played Dark Reign around 1999, even before I was able to get my hands on StarCraft. It was the second RTS I ever played, the first being AoE 1. I was blown away by the combination of cool graphics, incredible features (waypoints! elevation!) and an extremely immersive story. I don’t think I was that into even StarCraft’s storyline, by comparison. The premise of going through tactical simulation games before your one real battle was very appropriate, and the lore unfolded not only though the actual missions, but also through the in-game encyclopedia.
An interesting video , I've several points to add. 1. There is a client that is used to launch mods of the older C&C games. This client allows the toggling of shroud for maps. Mental Omega , Dawn of the Tiberium Age and Twisted Instruction use it. It aslo features higher resolutions and support for modern operating systems. 2. In regards to your criticism of naval gameplay in RTS games you should really try Red Alert 3 as it main claim to fame is how interchangeable water and land game play is. The game still has lots of flaws though. Otherwise Zero-k has pretty good naval game play as well it's free on steam.
I did play RA3 very briefly when it first came out. Still have the boxed copy somewhere. For whatever reason it didn't really strike me. It was toward the tail end of my initial obsession with RTS games. Will check out Zero K, never heard of it.
@@HarvestBuildDestroy Definitely try out Zero-K, but note that while it's mentioned in his comment about RA3, it has nothing to do with C&C. Rather it's a Total Annihilation project.
LOTR BFME 2 surprisingly had the best interface/control setup for any console RTS I have played. The servers are offline, and it didn’t get a backwards compatibility patch for the Xbox One. It makes other console RTS games seem sloppy and poorly thought out. I wish it were still easily playable so developers could use that as the standard to improve upon rather than going backwards. Thank you for all your content.
Yeah I remember thinking BFME2 wasn't too bad on console, but I also remember wishing they'd let you use the d pad or right analog stick for control groups, which if I recall correctly, weren't in the game. Been a while, though, and I only rented it (I think Blockbuster still existed then?)
HarvestBuildDestroy There were control groups, but I think it took three actions to create them. Once you create a control group control, you could add units or remove, select the group via the d-pad (different directions for different number sets, tap the d-pad to go through the groups in the set, at any time jump to the selected control group with a thumbstick press. That’s most of what I recall about the control groups. The battalion formations were magnificent too. The layered nature of the controls made up for the lack of a keyboard quite well.
Mine: Rise of Nations Populous 3 (The Beginning) WarCraft 1 also, I feel like Naval combat should be treated like Space Combat in games such as Empire At war (at least the modded versions) or Homeworld (but of course without the 3D aside from aircraft carrier units)
Highly recommend the Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth mod called 'Edain'. It has been around for years, much more established than 'Reforged', and is constantly being updated (if only slowly). It perfectly captures both the movies and books, and has a great deal more early/mid/end game style than its original game mode made by EA.
Out of curiosity, did you ever play a game by the name of AMERICA: No Peace Beyond the Line? It was a game from 2000 made by Data Becker a few years before they went bankrupt. I'd recommend trying it out, You would probably have a better understanding than I would to get it working. They have an abandonware download available. More on topic, does anyone have thoughts on what they would like to see in a remastered version?
I've always wanted a proper TA 2 as I loved the first game but I'd take a remaster of the first if that never happens, which it probably won't :( Warcraft 2 was the first full price game I ever got too, one of my all time favourites, so would lover a remaster of that.
Yeah, RA2 is THE game to remaster, wether just great graphics and new lighting or even going 3D, whatever, but that is THE game, and it could honestly even use an expansion too. Rise of Nations is a very good classic, but, i don't think it would draw in many more new players as compared to an RA2 probably can. The way it plays is just very different. I would still get it though, played a bit about a year ago.
There's Force Commander (Which is slightly more SC like) Galactic Battlegrounds (which is an Age of Empires clone) And Empire at War (Which is neither, having separate Space and Ground)
I've seen videos of it and heard Artosis talk about it a fair bit, but never played it myself. Looks like a game I would have liked, but unfortunately the online servers were already shut down by the time I found out about it, so I never bought it. Will definitely grab it if it ever ends up on Steam or GOG, though.
Hi, I'm new to your channel. I have seen what you have to say about rts and would like to hear your thoughts about the spellforce series mostly the first ones. I haven't finished it yet but wonder what you think of it.
Red alert 2 should get a remasterd version, i don't even care for the remaster itsself, just the fact it would revive the game online again for a few years probally, wich i would love to happen.
Yah, they buying out of these great games really killed the whole game style. I REALLY wish I could get a game company started so I can make some good RTS and classic turn based games. I also want to do an MMORTS and MMORPG
...don't you know? You can get a game company started. Even by yourself. Dwarf fortress was developed by 1 dude. Just scale things down until you and whoever you can rope into helping can handle it. Make that game dude. Make it. You can get it on steam for 500 bucks. Maybe you'll make some money and at the very least you can make a decent game.
If You like Total Annihilation and don't like Supreme Commander, go for Zero-K, it is more similar to TA than SC . There are some gameplay videos on TH-cam. You can get it from steam or this link: zerok.itch.io/zero-k
I personally like Red Alert 2 more, but what I gotta commend Red Alert 3 for is how they handled water terrain. There's more amphibious units, and you can BUILD YOUR MAIN BASE ON WATER! I wish more games did this.
Dude you have no idea how badly Aoe3 works. People have problems running it. The p2p is awful and there are many other things that need to be fixed. Many of those issues cant even be fixed anymore so a remaster is in order. I understand you are an Aoe2 purist but please aoe3 does need a remaster it is such a good game but it has so many flaws that the remaster could easily fix.

God I love this channel
RISE OF NATIONS! - this deserves a remaster over everything.
Yes :)

Red Alert 3 was 7/10 for me but it had greatest naval gameplay from all rtses I played and I say this as a Supreme Commander fanatic

Mine:

WarCraft 1

I liked your comment for rise of nations. Im crazy about aoe2, but rise of nations has the most depth among rts games in my opinion
I agree with ron. But i started playing at extended edition so its my preferred version. And wc3 has remastered version now so..

Red Alert Shroud Generators want a word with you.

I've always wanted a proper TA 2 as I loved the first game but I'd take a remaster of the first if that never happens, which it probably won't :( Warcraft 2 was the first full price game I ever got too, one of my all time favourites, so would lover a remaster of that.
I would love an Age of mythology remaster huge part of my childhood along with original aoe2.
Yeah, RA2 is THE game to remaster, wether just great graphics and new lighting or even going 3D, whatever, but that is THE game, and it could honestly even use an expansion too.

Waiting for in depth TA&SupCom analysis video.
I had my fingers crossed for a commandos entry, countless hours on that game.
ALARM, ALARM.......ctrl+S........Ah fuck!
Dark rain the future of war eh? I'll have to keep an eye out for it. I love diamonds in the rough.
Have you ever heard of "Outlive"? It's an old RTS game, but a really good one
There was Star Wars RTS i really liked but i cant remember its name.
Galactic Battlegrounds, maybe?
store.steampowered.com/app/356500/STAR_WARS_Galactic_Battlegrounds_Saga/
I liked SWGB too. Don't think I ever played it online, though.
There's Force Commander (Which is slightly more SC like)
Galactic Battlegrounds (which is an Age of Empires clone)
And Empire at War (Which is neither, having separate Space and Ground)
Did you play Armies of Exigo? Probably belongs in the noteworthy mention category. Do recommend.
THIS

2 words.. WORM SIGN. (Dune 2000)

i like RA3, mechanically it was great and all three factions was fairly unique and not fucking yuri. Also, great overhaul of air and water
I appreciate how HBD's Age of Empires username is "Fart Therapist"
If You like Total Annihilation and don't like Supreme Commander, go for Zero-K, it is more similar to TA than SC .
There are some gameplay videos on TH-cam.
You can get it from steam or this link:

Warcraft II Remastered ...i wish, and now it might be made since Microsoft bought Activision Blizzard.
Hey man! Ready for AoE II DE? :D
Why is fog of war better for RTS? I would argue otherwise.
I enjoyed red alert 3 over red alert 2.

My favourite game of the franchise as far as gameplay. But yeah multiplayer is so broken and I only play aoe2 online because of it
