As someone who surfed on KSF over a decade ago, it blows my mind hearing you call some crazy sections relatively easy. The bar has been raised a crazy amount - I love to see it!
I Cannot believe I am stumbling across this video! Dude, well done. This is incredible. I am Jesuswashomeless. Your details are spot on! When I released that level, i had been done with competitive surfing for months and wasn't really interested in trying hard anymore. I KNEW that Legendary Level 7 was possible at the time I released it but didn't want to grind it out. I spent thousands of hours having an amazing time with so many of you. I apologize i won't remember you all, but seeing all the names people are mentioning is bringing back a flood of memories. Being able to watch videos 10+ years after all this took place is truly humbling. I'm honestly in shock. Idk who the guy is who made this video, but what an absolute legend.
Ah, very nice nostalgia trip. I remember interviewing oldheads when I was trying to put together a video for the history of surf, in fear of it fizzling out and being forgotten. I'm ecstatic to see that the community is still thriving and producing content like this. Only ever got to top 350, crazy impressive to anyone still grinding today, super high skill ceiling! I remember having a conversation with Slyph about bezier splines for optimizing ramp pathing!
I have been in awe of cs surf maps ever since I was younger and discovered some compilation videos on youtube. The smoothness of the motion combined with the lonely and sort of psychedelic nature of the maps has always captivated me. I tried my hand at surfing a few times but I probably don't have more than 5 or 6 hours in total. Over the years I come back to just watch videos of people running the maps. I always wonder who makes these awesome maps and how precisely they have to be tested and stuff to make sure they're even possible. I also really appreciate the artistry that goes into designing the atmosphere of the maps, as many of them feel totally unique, and some even remind me of places I have been to in my dreams. Anyways, thanks for this video, it's great to see a niche community be so insanely passionate. I will be watching :)
I spent so many hours on KSF during college 11 years ago. I don't even remember tier 8 being a thing. I loved linear maps and forbidden_tomb_4 was my favourite. My most memorable map completion was the_distance which was a long ass T5 linear if I recall correctly. I also remember when it_omnific released and every KSF server I was able to play was playing that map non stop for like an entire 1-2 weeks. Great memories, nice video.
Kinda impressed with how you've found out so many details of the past -- especially finding footage of Jesuswashomeless's other surf_legendary stage 7 which he named surf_looksmodern, I used to have a video up of it that's not there anymore. For stage 7 he put it together and then didn't bother anymore since he was pretty much done with surf, we all thought it was impossible at the time but I grinded it for about 7hours (doesn't seem like much today) trying different technique's to get over the second wall and finally completed it. Same with Syria_again stage 8, was deemed impossible since it was made for 100tick. Grinded that trying different technique's, decided doing a 360 on to the last ramp gained the most speed, spent 8 hours clipping my little feet on the end hole not knowing if i'd ever actually make it.
I remember when surf first came out. it was a lot of fun but the maps are so simple compared to what we have today. some of these guys are INSANE it warms my heart to see how far it's come
I don't know if this is what you're going for but your editing and narration reminds me of Wirtual. Glad you're doing this, I think this format really lends itself for this game. Good work!
Wow, I'm amazed you managed to find footage of that old Jesuswashomeless stage, he was one of the greatest surfers back in 2008, next to knife and Aes (Rest in peace champ). Amazing stuff, been 10 years since I touched surf, might make me get back into it...
Really good video dude…completing sinsane was always a goal of mine and when I did it for the first time I genuinely felt like I’d completed surf 😅 legendary map and great story telling
I think you should have mwntioned the hardest part about royal spin which is an i visible trigger where a pole should have been in the spin.. so annoying haha. Awesome vid. Loving it. Watching sinsa was the reason i started to surf
Seeing all these nicknames and mapmakers makes me nostalgic af. Feeling the vibe of 2011-2014, chilling on css ksf with mad lads. Whoever came with NM or KSF tag in front of nick was known from being the surf goat. Damn, I'm feeling so old now, yet, remember like it was yesterday when niyhM came and dropped some banter or good advices. Huge shoutouts to the oldies who remember these times and with who I've had a great time - Tim9202, Raz0r, niyhM, Esel, and plenty more I may forgot here but for sure are living in my memories. And thank you, Repster, for this great story telling video about the map that was a goodbye for me from surf as I've moved onto the other games once I've beaten it.
After 22+years of CS with tons of surf, bhop, kz, deathrun, catchmod, zombies, soccerjam etc. his map looks hard but possible after some days of training & getting the map to know :D
grwat vid, tbh i don’t remember the 1 million point reward for sinsane b, i remember it as 5000. i do miss b0at tho. we used to surf together on zees japan tricksurf after he changed his name. dude was the B0AT
It's crazy to hear about surf these days. I remember I used to surf pretty regularly nearly 15 years ago in CS:S. I was never too invested into surf to really know anything about tiers or great surf players, but I do remember my favorite maps were surf_legends, surf_fruits, and surf_sky (I'm not too sure about the name of this one, I just remember huge jumps with the ramps all being in the sky). I mainly frequented DM surf servers, MG servers, and Jailbreak.
Omg I remember when the sinsa juched skip happened everyone lost their shit. that was truly a moment you knew would go down in history as you witnessed it!
Cool video, I love stuff like this. Surf is pretty cool but I find Quake DeFrag to be even more impressive. Wish we had videos like this about those runners/maps.
Cool video! Watching this made me vaguely remember b0at messaging me privately about this map, I think he made me surf it before it was released. My memory has always been that the map name referenced me as well but TBH I'm not sure, my memory from that time is horrible😆
I will add this as a correction, we were really unsure up until the end. I had a section about you in the original draft as well. Apparently b0at might still be around so we can find out for sure, follow up in a future vid.
@@Repster It's mixed up with the memory of a bunch of people asking me about it after it's release because they associated it with me, that happened for sure haha. Would be cool to confirm with b0at because I'm honestly not sure :D
I had a terrible experience with surf, had a "friend" pull me into a game, make fun of me for not knowing how to play it, refuse to teach me, then call me names for now knowing. Way back in the day, but ever since ive never played surf

it is totally fine to surf on CSGO! CSS is different in minor ways that wont impact you until "late game", hundreds if not thousands of hours from now. But eventually, CSS or Momentum Mod will be the optimal place for you to surf. For right now I recommend GFL and Surfheaven on CSGO, both very good servers.
I near one shotted everything on sinsane back in maybe 2018, but that last stage. There’s absolutely no way I could do it anymore, massive send drop and I flat out don’t really play cs anymore much less surf, but I damn well remember the trials and hours spent on the last two stages of sinsane, and the entirety of omnific
Oh man, that could be a couple of maps surf_anubis or surf_spin which has never been beaten. To TMs credit I think y'all have harder "oach" level maps.
Your storytelling has improved greatly it is very enjoyable but you sometimes get a bit too deep in detail. Otherwise the video flows well especially the 2nd part. Thanks for this
where would you put Raiin (evil muffinz?) and yamaan? I still remember those names. Thank you for bringing the lore to more people and to be an historian of sorts to surf! your videos are amazing and very well explained!
Hey! Awesome video. You're content has gotten me back into surf and has been super helpful at getting better and learning more about it. I've recently started palying on CS:S and was wondering how you get your UI to look the way it does. Couldn't find anything in your other vids. thanks boss keep it up!
